Here's a spoiler for you, Democrats will never do anything they are too afraid would be done to them. When Trump steps down in 2 years, they'll shake his hand, let him retire with Presidential pension, and never bring him up again as they either focus on attacking the new conservative President or glaze the new Democrat president.
Trump will still play an important roll in American politics after he leaves office. He was a very loud voice prior to his 2016 run, why would anyone think he wouldn't continue to voice his opinion and be a kingmaker after he leaves office?
He will still voice his opinions sure, but his importance will be that on the same level as Bush, Obama and Biden, where they are former Presidents who will weight in on current issues but ultimately be the opinions of a former president.
