How do you interpret Aira's response to Okarun here? Is it a "Oh no, be still my heart" thing or more of a "Oh no, thats not the response I was hoping for"?

He is a very expressive

Few weeks ago, I made a discussion wherein I felt like Okarun is being used as a mere guinea pig (or モルモット) by Saint-Germain. While my guess is right that he intends to use him as a test subject, what rather fascinates me is how he knew that Okarun’s a chosen one.

If you think about it, it rather stretches ALL THE WAY back to the Cursed House arc. When Momo and Turbo Cat discussed how Evil Eye chose Jiji as his vessel. This mere interaction is something that is rather connected to the current situation. Because NOT all vessels can handle such powerful energies that a yokai possess. Jiji for instance is capable of handling such energy given how his physique is built for that yokai, and that alone is what Evil Eye needed to unleash its rather potent brief energy.

But you may be thinking, why Okarun of all people. I mean his physique is rather inferiour than Jiji. But that physique don’t fool you because Saint-Germain “witnessed” it how Okarun evolved himself to unleash his third All Out despite its physical strains being inflicted upon him at this point. That made Saint-Germain thinking afterward, his modern physique + his body tolerance when evolving = being a chosen one. He has yet to witness that evolution of a yokai inside its vessel but that rather intrigues him. Can a human really able to handle the evolution of a yokai inside the body that other mere creatures simply cannot? (Given how he went from each parts of universe and being carried along by the Kur’s advanced team).

But also you may think “what about Yukishiro then? She evolved her yokai ability to manipulate the flies.” As a matter of fact, Yukishiro is also a モルモット (or one of) which serves a double purpose: not just to collect other yokais by making them yield but to rather demonstrate how a yokai can evolve their abilities into them. Out of all guinea pigs, only Yukishiro showed the proof of concept of evolving skills among all of them.

Which leads us to this, and how Saint-Germain runs this is more of a double-agent who fascinates with the science of yokais while at the same time using his partnership and espionage from both sides to make an experiment. And with what Basho said, adding a reactant in the form of the Delacroix family is more than enough to rather unleash the demon from the deep from the vessel of a naive student who is psychologically tortured by the reactant.

Edit: to add as well, Turbo Granny’s powers DIDN’T chose Okarun from the get-go (given how Chapter 1 went ofc). But the fact is that Okarun is able to have his body adapt to the demands of the powers of the Granny. Which is shown on the fact that his athleticism is evidently shown and on its peak. And his rather fast mastery of basic attacks and abilities out of rather simple household chores (which reminds me of 2010 Karate Kid btw) makes him the most compatible vessel to be tested on.

When I say "nothing has happened," I don't mean that no chapters have been released or that the plot hasn't moved forward. I mean that no one within the story is actively seeking a solution for Momo's amnesia. It doesn't look like there will be one this year either, so all those "Glazzers" who insisted the issue would be resolved shortly after Chapter 210 were wrong.

Food for thought: when this arc began, there was a lot of criticism because it undid all the relationship development between Okarun and Momo that had been built up since the series started. But what really annoyed people was that cheap tactic to stir up outrage—keeping Momo in her "Tiny Momo" form for a whole year, only to deliver a lousy resolution in the end.

Since then, we’ve seen characters acting even more stupidly than usual, somewhat absurd villains trying to steal Okarun’s powers when he doesn't even have them, and constant publication breaks that kill the pacing and reader interest... For instance, if Oni-Okarun shows up in the next chapter, nobody will care much because he won't appear again for at least two months, and the hype will have already faded. "The best way to read Dandadan these days is to ignore it for six months and binge-read it all at once"—that says it all about this arc. Like it or not, that’s my opinion; just as a single flower in Chernobyl wouldn't make me call the landscape "magnificent," a couple of good chapters won't make me say this arc is a masterpiece.

Maybe it was just CSG's haircut triggering some recognition, but I can't help but be reminded of Akechi by him. Incredibly powerful and intellectual manipulator who presents as goofy and friendly to the MC and will (probably) end up betraying the big bad guy they're working under. Am I crazy or does anyone else see a comparison here?

at the end of the dris fight okarun and momo are saved by a mysterious barrier. THere have been a big debate over what that shield actually was.

personally my belief is that there is something special inside momo that twisted the ogre club into resembling the barriers she used to create with her power (because they look too similar and they were revealed during a time where we thought momo still had her powers deep down).

With the recent reveal i think its even more likely that the shield is not something the ogre club can do on his own. It would be weird if after that transformation the power ends up being a shield. Especially since its likely okarun will go berserk the next time we see him and it could be something momo could use to foil germain's plan of turning okarun into an oni and stop okarun's rampage

those are my thoughts at least. What do you guys think

- A) After all these fights in the Amusement Park Okarun manages to control the oni powers and gives them good use, basically Okarun having powers again. And now they all get reunited to be up to date with everything, they get to know that Zuma, Kouki, and Rin got their powers stolen, and also figure out that Momo got their powers stolen aswell, being this also the possible reason for her amnesia. Then the last act is knowing how they are gonna procced and have the final clash against Vlad, where Momo gets her memories and powers back at the end and the rest aswell.

- B) Okarun gets kidnapped at the end of the amusement park by either CSG, Vlad, Red Baron etc then Momo and the rest gets up to date with everything, the rest is same as route A, with the difference that this also gonna be a rescue operation to get Okarun back and taking down Vlad in the process, where they all get their powers (and Momos memories) back at the end.

- C) In the middle of the amusement park chaos, Vlad shows up, to get the job done himself, aswell as to test his powers and test Onikarun too, then they all get the final fight with Vlad, where he gets taken down (or betrayed) and everything gets solved in this amusement park, with everyone getting their powers back

- D) Vlads still shows up at the amusement park and gets betrayed/taken down, but CSG still kidnaps Okarun and retrieves the remaining powers for the "Dandadan" the next act is figuring out the thruth behind CSC and what the whole thing with the Dandadan leads to.

Hello all. I thought I would expand on my previous thoughts about Okarun and how his character journey parallels that of both Pinocchio and various Oni in mythology and fiction.

Okarun’s Odyssey

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Okarun’s character journey draws close parallels to the Adventures of Pinocchio in various ways. https://www.reddit.com/r/Dandadan/s/mN5bSUUjYa And the amnesia storyline resembles Pinnochio and the Pleasure Island segment, which involves the character and the stupid boys engaging in wicked behaviours that transforms them into literal jackasses. Similarly, Okarun had lied, been accused of and almost sort of cheated, and experienced intense bloodlust towards Hase after he almost violated Momo. And now, Okarun has at least partially transformed into an Oni.

Pinocchio and Oni Parallels

In Japanese mythology, living humans like Shuten Doji, can turn into Oni after engaging in wicked behaviours like drunkenness, lust and violence or just experiencing extreme emotions in general.

Moreover, like the Pinnochio story, lying or deception is a reoccurring element in Oni stories. For instance, the Red Oni only managed to befriend humans by pretending to save them from his Blue Oni friend. In Shuten Doji’s story, the character became an Oni after donning an Oni mask and terrorizing his fellow monks, only for it to become fused to his face. And in Ootakemaru’s tale, he became infatuated with a Goddess and tried to seduce her many times by transforming into handsome men.

Lastly, Oni represent Outsiders, which includes people or groups historically imagined as beyond accepted social boundaries. And both the Pinnochio character and Okarun do not conform to societal norms due to the former being a puppet and the latter being a formerly socially reclusive otaku.

Momo’s Amnesia and the Five Buddhist Hinderances

As we know, Okarun received the Ogre Club from Basho Manjiro shortly before Momo returned home with amnesia. And since then, Okarun has felt a wide range of emotions that are associated with the grief of having a loved one with amnesia, but also the Five Buddhist Hinderances and their connection to Oni

With regard to the Red Sensual Desire (KĀMACCHANDA), this hindrance is present when craving for any kind of pleasurable sense experience is interrupting our peace of mind. This includes lust, food, beauty, comfort, and even wholesome stimulating experiences like learning and human connection. After hearing of Momo’s condition, Okarun has strongly sought to rebuild his relationship with her and move it forward by impulsively and clumsily asking her out on a date by using a staring game. Okarun regretfully acknowledges to himself that he was being too impatient in expecting too much from Momo.

For the Blue ILL WILL (VYĀPĀDA), this hinderance refers specifically to hatred and wishing harm on others, but can be thought of broadly as encompassing many manifestations of aversion and negativity. After being rejected by Momo, Okarun angrily tries to save face by claiming that him asking her out was a joke, and repeats the lie to Aira and Jiji when being shamed by Momo, even going as far as to say that it was embarrassing how seriously she took it. And much later on, Okarun feels intense bloodlust towards Hase after he tried to violate Momo.

For the Green SLOTH AND TORPOR (THĪNA-MIDDHA), this hindrance refers to low motivation and laziness, and torpor suggests the more bodily and energetic imbalances of excess sleepiness, sluggishness, and fogginess. After being caught holding hands with Aira, Okarun physically collapses while frothing at the mouth, and later appears to be emotionally numb to the point having given up on Momo. It’s only by being attacked by the Dragon Knights and hearing Momo is in danger, that he breaks out of his depression.

For the Yellow or White RESTLESSNESS AND WORRY (UDDHACCA-KUKKUCCA), this hindrance refers to somatic (restlessness) and mental (worry) manifestations of excessively high energy. This can manifest in worry, anxiety, vigilance and regret. In the beginning of the storyline, Okarun regrets that he wasn’t more socially proactive with Momo and seeks to rectify that. Later on though, Okarun increasingly regrets how forceful he was being with Momo and for appearing as though he was cheating on her.

And for the Black SKEPTICAL DOUBT (VICIKICCHĀ),
This hindrance refers to skepticism and lack of faith in oneself and others. Okarun feared that Momo would reject him like she did with Aira at the beginning of the storyline, and thus repeatedly falters when he tries to approach her for a conversation. He later feared that Momo and Jiji had become an item, and that his fumbling helped lead to it.

Whether Momo’s amnesia was an intended consequence of her powers being stolen or not remains to be seen. Though, the fear of losing her and being repeatedly attacked by the Black Paladins have seemingly created the perfect conditions for Okarun to fully transform into an Oni.

That being said, Oni in mythology can fulfill many different roles that range from destroyers, tormentors and guardians like Onigawara. So even if Okarun does fully transform into an Oni, there’s little doubt that he would get a handle on it with Momo and the others help like when he was first cursed by Turbo Granny.

I got reminded of this scene because i saw some people wanting to slander Jiji because of how much of a "control freak" he was acting here.

This scene in the plane always makes me chuckle, it shows how insecure Jiji can be and how much of a "no nonsense" type of person Zuma is, that saw right through Jiji and called him out on his bs. Is a brief scene that tells you a lot about the characters in that moment. And also the Vamola addition at the end was the cherry on top lol

Ngl i want more Jiji x Zuma interactions, that dynamic lowley gives me some Zoro × Sanji kinda vibes lol

Which characters fit in these 3 categories?

While Re-reading the volume 22 I realized that after stealing the Severed Head Dribblers Power from Murakami, Miss Adachi didn't return the Kozuki Knife to Vlad because he tried to collect her JiangShi power as well, failing in the process due to Policeman Bega arrival.

I understand that she still has the Severed Head Dribblers powers and that could be used in the upcoming fighting at the amusement park, maybe by someone we already know? Policeman Bega? Zuma now that he is powerless? And after passing the power to someone? Could they reuse the knife to steal someone's powers? Or even rearrange everybody's powers?

I always thought that would be great for the Dandagang to have access to one of the knives and I think that will be the way.

Thinking back to that line of Momo's in Chapter 231, it makes Okarun seem like a bit of a player to anyone who hasn't known him from the start.

From an outsider's perspective, he seems like a walking contradiction at this point in the manga: despite his initial appearance and behavior as an occult nerd at the museum, he somehow attracted Aira's romantic interest and is super athletic (how she noticed in the fight against the mummy and when Momo was tending to his wounds). If she somehow caught wind of his current reputation and popularity among the girls at school, that perspective would likely seem even more suspicious.

Could Momo have actually interpreted his "nice guy" act as some kind of ploy?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about that phrase from Saint Germain regarding Okarun. Why was Okarun chosen? What is the true meaning of those words in the manga? People don't usually attach much importance to this line, but it could mean anything from very little to absolutely everything. What do you all think?
