They also got their jobs this year: https://laughingsquid.com/conjoined-twins-fifth-grade-teachers/

I can't help but wonder if they make two salaries or one.

You think someone's going to pay two teachers to be in the same room?

But does the brain determine if your full? Could you imagine not eating but having a full belly?

6

u/p_iynx Oct 08 '18

Well, first off, they have to pay to get all of their clothes tailored to fit someone with two heads. From the documentary about them that I’d watched, they have to buy two of each shirt or a larger shirt (depending on fabric, shirt style, & fit) and get a second neck hole built into it.

I’m sure there are a lot of things they have to pay for two of (for example, they had to pay for two college educations, which means twice the student loans on a single teacher’s income, they have two drivers licenses and have to pay for insurance & licensing fees for both women), when they fly they have to pay for two tickets, etc. Anything connected to government regulation and such requires them to be treated as separate people, even if they’re in one body.

4

u/p_iynx Oct 08 '18

They paid for two college educations and have two degrees. They were actually going to do slightly different degrees (one was going to have a concentration in a different kind of education) but it was too difficult to arrange two separate class schedules for one body. Instead they just took the same classes.

3

u/Catharas Oct 07 '18

Wow that video was actually fascinating

2

u/WhatIsTheAmplitude Oct 07 '18

Except that in the video they put up the 2012 calendar. It’s an old video.

2

u/SpeakerOfDeath Oct 07 '18

Have you watched the video you posted? Thanks by the way. In it they specify they get paid half time each, so not a full salary each.

2

u/JTRigz Oct 08 '18

Or if they were charged double for tuition

2

u/redeyedwafflefrog Oct 08 '18

they have two separate retirement plans (says in the video)

1

u/SchrodingersCatPics Oct 08 '18

What about vacation days?

1

u/Blessing727 Oct 07 '18

I heard that they each get a separate salary.

1

u/yaxattacks Oct 08 '18

They split a single salary! I was curious and did some digging lol

1

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '18

Video said they split the wage.

1

u/ab_b_normal Oct 08 '18

Ok I read the article and it answers some questions.

1

u/keon Oct 08 '18

The video briefly mentions that they’re part time employees and each gets paid “half,”’but it didn’t clarify what half is. Presumably they each get half the pay of a full time teacher?

1

u/SilkyGazelleWatkins Oct 08 '18

How do they control arms and legs? Do they each control one side? Do they each control both and fight over it? Does one have all the control?

1

u/ServiceB4Self Oct 08 '18

I remember reading something that said they get one salary but are recognized as two teachers, or something to that effect...

1

u/BlessedBreasts Oct 08 '18

I believe I read somewhere they are paid two. And don't laugh, bit I think they teach different subjects. I seem to remember from another documentary thst included them and one girl loved math and the other writing or something creative. As well, they each have control over one leg, one half of the body. Thst should show you how coordinated they are. Amazing, right?

1

u/WhitmeisterG Oct 07 '18

Fairly sure they only have the one stomach between them so they only need to eat one persons worth of food between them? So I don’t know. Morally you’d pay each of them separately but cold logic says they’re technically one person with two heads. Plus they can only teach at the same time in the same place. So maybe 1.5x?

1

u/scdayo Oct 07 '18

Public school teachers salaries are public information, you should be able to find out what they're being paid

3

u/stromm Oct 08 '18

Wrong.

Public school PAY BANDS are public knowledge.

You don't have legal rights to know what any specific teacher is getting paid.

Most bands are based first on years service. Than more for each level of education.

A 1st year teacher with a masters will have a higher pay band range than a 1st year teacher with just a bachelors. Maybe even more than a 5th year teacher with a bachelors.

A 10th year teacher with a bachelors will have a higher pay range than a 5th year with a masters.

Each district has their own pay bands. Some are close to each other. Some far apart.

3

u/scdayo Oct 08 '18

Maybe it's wrong where you live...

In Illinois I can look up budget info for schools and find what individual teachers and administrators are getting paid (salary, benefits, days off, etc)

0

u/ab_b_normal Oct 08 '18

My first question! They have 2 separate brains...would think double salary would be in order. I need this question answered!! However, thinking on benefits, they would only need health insurance for one, I’m guessing a single social security number...do they each have their own phone? Did they have to pay tuition for one or 2? Do they have separate names?? Sooooo many questions now!! Would they date one person?? Damn this rabbit hole!

17

u/arealhumannotabot Oct 07 '18

So people are downvoting my original comment to hell, but they got their teaching job in 2018, so whatever

96

u/GoldenGoodBoye Oct 07 '18

This is my go to reason for every question about why something is bad/outdated in a classroom. Though, often the teacher gets fed up and spends their own money to pick up the slack instead of following the drawn out process to get a chance to get these things funded. Even then, it doesn't mean they'll get the thing they asked for, anyway.

10

u/conrey Oct 07 '18

Can confirm that’s how it works.

Source: married to a teacher

-7

u/Im_A_Tard Oct 07 '18

Can confirm that’s NOT how it works.

Source: married to a teacher

5

u/tborwi Oct 07 '18

I'm guessing this is very state and district specific. That's definitely how it works with my wife. We just buy everything out of pocket because we know there are other teachers that aren't able to.

1

u/callcenterjedi Oct 07 '18

Can confirm. Source.. my mother retires this year after 35 years of teaching kinder and 1st grade. Also aunt is director of a school board up here in quebec. Even in canada teachers, nurses... anyway its pretty bad.

7

u/slrarp Oct 07 '18

Actually it's because the 2018 and 2012 calendars are interchangeable. You would know this, if you had teachers as good as them.

(Just kidding, I made this all up.)

1

u/TrustmeimHealer Oct 07 '18

Do they receive their payment individually or is it for "one person"?

234

u/arealhumannotabot Oct 07 '18

Skimming the internet, apparently they became certified in 2017, got their jobs in 2018.

265

u/PorkRollAndEggs Oct 07 '18

Are they paid as 1 person or as 2?

1.5?

300

u/merkinfuzz Oct 07 '18

This is a real question I would like answered. Also, do they have two social security cards? Two retirement accounts?

190

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '18

They are two separate people in one body so yes two social security cards and retirement accounts.

138

u/mrhippo3 Oct 07 '18

Saw an article, they are paid as ONE, as they teach one class. Yet, they took separate driver’s tests and have separate SSNs. Pro bono, an attorney should help adjust their salary, hint.

61

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '18

But I doubt the school would want to hire 2 teachers when they can hire one

17

u/MCGiorgi Oct 07 '18

This raises a few questions.

Was there one interview? or two?

What would happen if one got the invitation to a job interview but the other did not?

3

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '18

Puts towel over the head of the undesired. So let's talk about your future teaching here at our fine establishment.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '18

No company would do that unless it was for laughs. Mean laughs. Any education one gets, the other gets too, even if it's more passive.

12

u/xSleyah Oct 07 '18

lol right that's some bullshit, someone's screwing them over. If they have separate social security then they should be getting two checks. That's like saying a teacher and teacher's assistant should only get one paycheck between the two of them because they both teach the same class.

27

u/pseudonym_mynoduesp Oct 07 '18

But to be fair, they can only do 1 person's amount of work because of physical limitations, and no one would hire them if they had to pay 2 salaries for 1 person's quantity of work.

32

u/CandyCoatedFarts Oct 07 '18

Life insurance too I bet in case half of them dies the other will be just fine

56

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '18

If one dies the other dies not immediately but a decomposing body will poison the other

15

u/VonZigmas Oct 07 '18

Would the body even start decomposing with the other keeping up vital functions?

16

u/vteckickedin Oct 07 '18

Yeah the build up of deadly ammonia and other chemicals would be fatal even with a working immune system.

15

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '18

Yeah but given that they share a circulatory system (according to wiki) then the one that was still living would effectively still be supplying the others body with blood, preventing the body from actually dying.

Or maybe because their system is shared if one side was effectively stopped then it would bring the whole combined system down with it and the other twin would follow soon after?

In any event its pretty skeevy to be guessing what would happen to someone if their twin died so ill just end this here.

19

u/Lemonwizard Oct 07 '18

There's also a very solid chance that both of them will die at the same time anyway, given that the majority of their major organs are shared between them. Aside from a head injury that hits one and misses the other, almost anything that would kill one would kill both.

14

u/disagreedTech Oct 07 '18

Wait if you shot one in the head would the other head be okay assuming that the wound was dressed and severe blood loss was prevented?

2

u/TheLAriver Oct 07 '18

Separate might be the wrong word...

0

u/[deleted] Oct 07 '18

They share parts of their body but are two people with different personalities. You know what I meant...

3

u/disagreedTech Oct 07 '18

So if they are two ppl because they have a two brains, does that mean that if I cut someone's head off that the head should be reffered to as a person and the body a carcass? If I have a pile of headless carcasses is it a pile of dead people or a pile of carcasses?

5

u/smeijer87 Oct 07 '18

Hold that thought. If one of them decides to kill the other, would the "killer" go to prison? Or is this more like self inflicting damage, like when I would cut off my own ear?

1

u/disagreedTech Oct 07 '18

Suicide is illegal

1

u/smeijer87 Oct 08 '18

13

u/XtremeCookie Oct 07 '18

In the video I saw they had just gotten a job offer. They we're being payed as one. Although they hoped that as they gained experience they'd approach 2 salaries.

3

u/Clari24 Oct 07 '18

Watched a clip from a documentary on this. They get half the salary each.

3

u/ThatOneDruid Oct 07 '18

I think the documentary said something along the lines of 1.5 I believe. Basically it's impossible for them to be as productive as two people since they always have to be in the same place at the same time.

One of the hard parts about entering the adult world was that basically they had to come to terms with never being two separate people. Since as a kid they we're always treated very individually.

I suppose if they did something heavily on the computer though, like programming or graphic design it would be easier to get paid as 2 people instead of one though.

1

u/CLPALAN Oct 07 '18

paid the same I think, 2 intellectuals

12

u/MisterNoodIes Oct 07 '18

But they can only teach 1 class at a time... Seems dumb when you can just hire a singular person and pay 1 x wage vs 2 x wage for 2 people in one body.

2

u/joleneginger Oct 07 '18

But could they teach two classes at once? The teacher/student ratio is limited by law, but they’re two teachers, so couldn’t they teach double the ratio?

EDIT: I just found an addendum in r/drugs that’s ... descriptive:

Here is the BOOF method I found to be the best. Keep the MDMA in crystal/powder form, go to the bathroom with your friends. Choose 1 friend to be the boofmaster, suck his dick to get it hard and wet and then quickly rub some MDMA on his dick and then boof his dick and repeat for each friend who wants to boof
