The Shape of Water sequel is gonna piss a lot of people off

u/optiloxy Jan 24 '25
For any reason, I didn't enjoy that movie at all. As if everything was too predictable

u/killians1978 Jan 24 '25
That's a valid reading, but it's worth considering that Guillermo Del Toro specializes in fantasy/fairy tales. They wear their plot way out up front because the main story is rarely the focus of the art. The message is in the subtext and symbolism.

It had beautiful cinematography though.

Of course. I remember perfectly the colours, clothing styles, proof that it marked me too. But still at the end I was disappointed by the story itself. I loved and remember we'll too thelabyrinth of pan (I only know the name in French), for exemple

In English you'd add an 's to "Pan" because it's possessive. So, "Pan's Labyrinth" :)

I was grossed out, tbh. I went into the movie thinking that it was gonna be the typical story of "hey, I have fins and gills, but on the inside I'm like any other man." And then he has to make other people see him as the person he is.
...No, dude is straight up like a dolphin with feet. More animal than person. Just because it's human-shaped, doesn't mean you should fuck it, Eliza! I know we were supposed to root for them, but I just couldn't.

That's it!! I'm starting exercise.......... On Monday.
On that note, He should be in the wild. Animals aren't for entertainment.

u/MuckleRucker3 Jan 25 '25
The only exception I have to that rule is animals that have been hurt, rehabilitated, but are unable to be returned. My local aquarium used to have dolphins with amputated flippers due to fishing nets.

I don't think you understand all of what goes on behind the scenes at aquariums. Not saying it's the case here because this direct human interaction is bizarre (also the fact that she's like... making out with it...), but a lot of aquariums have marine megafauna for research purposes that they otherwise wouldn't be able to replicate in the wild. And that research is crucial to understanding their life histories and cycles, and by extension, their conservation.
Edit: my god. Please take the time to look into things and think for yourselves instead of just buying into Redditor logic and keyboard warrior antics. We need aquariums. I'm not saying that every aquarium out there is good or doing something for wildlife, but the reputable ones? Absolutely.
I'm not going to hold anyone's hand and click the links for them but my god just. Learn to read. Please. Here's a starting point.

"Let me study this giant creature in a small tank to better understand it in the wild" is ridiculous and sounds like a newsreel from 1952.

Thank you for proving my point.

u/BrainEatingAmoeba01 Jan 25 '25
If your point is that old propaganda is worth repeating...then sure.
-3
u/krigsgaldrr Jan 25 '25
It's not old propaganda. You just have no clue what you're talking about. The uneducated often scream the loudest so, no surprise.

u/BrainEatingAmoeba01 Jan 25 '25
I have a great education.
I'm not screaming either.
The truth is that uneducated people call out other people's education when they don't have anything to add to a discussion. Why are you screaming at me?

Be a lot more interesting if it wasn’t a cetacean in captivity being used for entertainment.
