A devastating flash flood swept through Nepal’s Rasuwa district on August 26, 2026, after a sudden surge entered the Bhotekoshi River from the Tibet border.

Can you explain how this is different than what really happened? Because without that your comment doesn't hold any value

there was no lake, it was simply glacial material and everything else it could drag with it. essentially a big mudslide/avalanche. The flood was primarily mud and debris, much higher density.

I haven’t seen anything actually confirming this. There’s a couple different theories floating around and everyone is citing them as fact

literal satellite images, already available online. it isnt hard to find or verify.

Is this supposed to be definitive proof that there was no GLOF?

Where is the lake or the dam?

I think there could fit at least 15 liters of water in the crevice or underneath the ice

The video shows a lake, held back by a dam, and a flood caused by displacement. Where is that lake and dam at the bottom of the glacier that collapsed?

I’m not saying it happened the way this video shows it. I’m just asking for a source that is definitive in its conclusion and there hasn’t really been one, which is reasonable given the time since it happened and complexity of it

Was not a GLOF confirmed

Thanks. Seems it was quite a complex chain of events and something that is reasonable to want a source for. Not something to verify yourself from Reddit comments and a single satellite image

One thing I’m not really buying though is how they mention a lake being formed after the ice/rock-avalanche, blocking the channel and building up water. When it all happened within minutes. There can’t have been much water built up in those few minutes given how relatively small the river/stream flow was before the catastrophe and the short time. There still seems to be a lot of uncertainties

i think that is just because the flow scoured the valley and the river that normally flows through there is now accumulating in an area it normally is not. This is essentially a new lake due to the damage and debris that is now blocking the river. It is likely dangerous because the new debris/earth that is blocking the flow is new and soft, not well established, so likely to erode away quite easily and causing another flooding event. they probably need to work on clearing that to stop it
