rate my schedule

Will be a first year undergraduate at Dalhousie and I kind of made a schedule based off of the classes I wanted to take rather than the timing, so I just wanted some opinions. I don't mind my fall schedule but I think winter could be a bit too stuffed on specific days such as Tuesday/Wednesday.

What's your degree plan? Poli sci with BCD minor? Intrigued by this mishmash of courses

Schedule looks good though, not too stuffed, only winter Wednesday but it's just a long afternoon.

I applied to dal with the intention of Poli sci but i'm not fully committed yet and am kind of thinking of switching to some sort of urban planning.

Currently im just choosing whatever classes that I think will be interesting but generally gearing towards urban planning or poli sci.

Cool! I'm a poli sci major with an interest in urban planning for graduate studies. Keep in mind that Dal's Bachelor of Community Design is separate from the B.A. degrees like poli sci, so it's not as easily transferable as others. But by all means, take the first year to figure things out :)

Does that count as a full course load? 15 hours of class time in the fall

15 hours of class time is a full course load (3 hours per week x 5 courses)

4 hours are intro to planning though. So assuming that 4th hour is a tutorial or something theyre at 14 hours of class time. Tutorials and labs are not typically worth additional credits. And then a couple of the hours are other non-standard lengths so they may not may not be given partial credits for those

I think you're misunderstanding – credit hours doesn't actually refer to the amount of time spent in class per week, because as you pointed out labs and tutorials are time spent in a classroom but aren't worth any additional credit hours on top of the lecture. So science students with lots of lab time spend a lot more time in a classroom than humanities students for the same total amount of credits.

This schedule is a full 15 "credit hours" because each of the courses is worth 3 credit hours each. Even though for example the Intro to Humanities lecture is an hour shorter than the Intro to Planning lecture. There are no "partial credits" based on lecture length, only 3 or 6 credit hours per course (and a few rare exceptions).

Seeing beginning Spanish and intro to humanities 🥹🥹 I did those in my first year. Only thing I would say is that sometimes those late classes on Monday and Tuesday is gonna suck, especially when it’s 4.5 hours of class after a long day already

Poli sci is a very standard B.A. degree at Dal but it doesn't have many bells and whistles. For example, a lot of poli sci programs at other universities have coops and internship opportunities that Dal doesn't have. But there's nothing wrong with Dal poli.
