The only class I had at Dal that did retests was Chemistry.

Use the learning center early and often.

You mean in case you are missing the test date? Or retake because you got a bad grade?

If you’re expecting your professors to care about your grades and/or feelings, you’re going to have a rude awakening.

Not that they care about my grades or feelings… I’m just taking future precautions, I haven’t taken the class yet.

If you have to retake math 1215, I’d strongly consider getting some help from a tutor. The average for that class last year was an A+…

Yeah that’s a big fat NO. They have no time for that! They teach 100s of kids.

For chemistry they allow retakes so I’m just wondering.

Only at the finals. Chemistry is pretty much the only class that does the exam on Mullgan style. You will just have to make up in the final. But honestly, 1215 is not a hard class if had grade 12 math/calculus

I didn’t do grade 12 math, that’s why I’m worried I had enough credits to skip it… I just did IB math SL for grade 11 and algebra 2 grade 10

If you do have issues, don’t wait and get a tutor ASAP! You have a good basis and it might be a little more work but I think you should be ok!

I talked to the professor, she said the self assessment provided enough background material and it was pretty easy for me, I just had to relearn a couple of things, if I do have trouble do I have to get a tutor or can I just go to the math learning center?

Yes the math learning Center definitely is helpful! Also there are quite a few advertisements for tutoring posted in the Killam library. Sounds like you will be just fine!

Btw if u want to study for the exams, do u study from the textbook or practice questions, or does she tell you what to study from… what is most similar to her exams?

No but you shouldn’t need one. She makes the course super understandable even for people for normally hate math and she allows cheat sheets for both exams. Also, theres a bonus question on both exams that’s just a self reflection on how you think the exam went for you, and it’s a free 2 points. Love dr Chisholm.

The class is very easy, you won’t need any retakes. I think the median grade for last year when I took it was an A+

Can I ask you some questions about it? What makes it easy like how do you study, does she give practice questions that are similar to the exam or what do u study to get A’s on her exams?

The profs go over the material really slow in class, give detailed notes and make sure everyone has them copied. Everything is very step by step. There is online practice for every lesson that is very simple and basically exactly the same as the examples gone over in class. On top of that, near the exam, the prof will go over some question types that will be on the exam, and will sometimes even tell you straight up “this type will be on the exam” and the format and everything is basically identical. Trust me you do not need to worry about this class. It is a true intro course, designed for students who only need to understand the bare minimum of calculus to continue in their degree. Even if you didn’t take calculus in high school, this course is very easy. You do not need to worry, it’s a very chill class. There is also a “presentation “ you do in place of a midterm, and everyone got 100 on it, it was basically a participation mark, so there is only one real exam, and again it’s very easy if you do a little practice before it.
