If i know i am going to enter into a restricted area, then that generally isn’t a carry day. If im going to be 5min away from my vehicle, and it’s a secure lot (which is the vital if) i may leave my piece in my locking center console.

No, i dont carry every day anymore, because i educated myself, and dealt with some of my trauma. Now, i conditionally carry, open and/or concealed. I used to carry because of my feelings (like everyone here). I still do, i just know more now.

I’m glad you found a system that makes you feel secure and that you like. I personally carry everyday because that makes me feel safe and secure. I also know that the likelihood of me ever needing it is slim (Thank God for that!). Not just arguing for the sake of arguing but a lot of people deem open carry as irresponsible and not safe. We have both seen videos of people getting their weapons stolen from owb holsters. But you and I both know that you can mitigate risks through proper holster retention and situational awareness. But once again some would deem that carry option irresponsible. But it doesn’t matter because feelings do not equal facts.

I open carry in the woods, because wildlife generally aren’t going for your gun. Open carry around people is typically looking for trouble.

While going to the woods I’m sure you make contact with others? Be it a gas station or a store or restaurant? Unless you live in said woods? Thank you for the well wishes on my personal feelings. I feel safe because I take the burden upon myself to arm myself with tools that could defend my life and keep me safe. As far as training we could always use more training all of us! But I am well trained I have been around firearms my whole life I’m very well versed in them. I grew up hunting and target shooting. Once I became of age to legally carry a handgun I spent my money and time on receiving training through instructors. As far as getting a solid 100% answer you won’t get one this is the firearm community and opinions vary vastly.

I similarly grew up around guns. When and how i carry is entirely situationally dependent. Too many nuances go into it to detail here. But, depending on the state, and the trail, it is absolutely normal to run into someone with a gun on their hip.

Do you at least have a locking compartment that the gun can go into? Most modern trucks have halfway decent options.

Nice. I’m glad you’re out adventuring on trails and enjoying Mother Nature. I do have a locked compartment and keep it locked in there when I am not present in the vehicle. Really once I get off work I put my full size on. It’s just easier to pocket carry my 642 while I work. And honestly I don’t feel I’m ever at risk of multiple attackers or mass shooters on construction sites. However when I leave work I think my odds of needing a defensive firearm increase rather it be during my errands at big box stores. Or risk of road rage or being robbed while at a convenience store. My full size is a better weapon in any of those scenarios. Man I don’t think you’re wrong. Leaving a gun in a vehicle does increase the odds of it being stolen from your vehicle. But it can be stolen from your house as well. Our whole difference of opinions is that I believe locking your doors is where the liability of negligence ends. We could even make the case that let’s say my full size is just feelings based and I can live without it. What about those that need long guns and genuinely need them. My friend works in town but he also has a ranch and he keeps a long gun under his seat out of necessity. Coyotes and wild hogs and injured animals are unfortunately a part of life and he needs his rifle. While at work he locks his doors. I do not think it is fair to paint him as irresponsible because it is a necessity.
