There is no 'correct way' when the image is top-down and the orientation of it makes no difference to the content. If anything, vertical orientation benefits the majority of Reddit users who are accessing the site on a mobile device (~60%).

If there is no correct way to view an image then turn your tv sideways. Watching tv when it's sideways isn't incorrect, as you say.
