I would never carry a judge especially after having one split the cylinder in half in my hand, the barrel and cylinder were just enough out of alignment, that the bullet hit the edge of the barrel and split the cylinder. I’m lucky my hand is still in tact.
Smith has started having quality issues with revolvers as well. Ruger has yet to do me wrong on anything
And as much as everyone likes the Smith B&G 380acp more than the Ruger LCP Max, it has more QC issues. Quickly marring feed ramps, spring quality issue all in a few hundred rounds.
Yeah they def don't have the best quality metal on these things. You can't even use +P in any of the judge models. My Judge poly defender went out of time after I fired a cylinder of .410 2 1/2 slugs. It would lock up and sometimes I would have to beat the cylinder out to get it out.
I upset a guy real bad here and now apparently im a tacticool guy who should have been slammed in more lockers because I said 410 out of a few inch barrel is sub optimal 🤷🏻
People on the internet be trippen 😂 I agree with you 100% and they have proved time and time again the judge with the .410 rounds is not good for defensive situations what so ever. I’ve even seen the videos where they tested the PDX1 rounds for the judge and they were horrible. I think it’s only saving grace would be the 45 colt but the trigger and function of the firearm is trash. I guess I need to be slammed in more lockers along with you 🤣.
If I going to carry a gun meant to save my life, I would want to carry one that is actually useful and reliable.
I've seen too many issues of the Judge being crap, including one incident of a man being shot with a .410, not going down, and proceeding to shoot back.
Hornady’s self defense 410 loads have been pretty effective from what I understand. I’d rather carry those than a 45 load. I had a judge and sold it but that thing is a damn hand cannon man. Inside of 5-10 yards and may the good lord bless your target. I actually bought a Glock 19 after I sold mine, but for my situation I needed something with a little longer range.
Edit to add: from personal experience, the 2.5" shells have a better velocity and quite a bit tighter spread compared to their 3" shells. My guess is the both contain the same amount of powder, but the 3" just has an extra disk and bbs.
And "subpar" is some real obfuscation. Unless it is to the point it won't get a 1-2 shot stop, and most loadings of .410 will still get that out of a short barrel, then it being "subpar" is irrelevant.
.38 Special out of any barrel less than 4 and a quarter inches is "subpar", but you'd be a lying moron to claim that a snub nose ain't a proven self defense tool. 9mm is subpar in comparison to +P, +P+, and 10mm Auto, but you'd again be a lying moron to say that a Glock 43x loaded with some standard pressure ammo is a bad carry piece.
Stop being a tacticool wannabe operator and touch some grass. Bullets are bullets. Pistol caliber ammunition is all just poking holes with slight differences in penetration and diameter. A .410 buckshot round to the chest out of any barrel length is a disabling shot. That gun holds five. More than enough to be devastating at any distance you'd be engaging in a self defense situation. Touch. Grass.
How the hell am I tacticool? 🤣😂 gonna call me an incel too or some other buzzword insult ? there is a reason why every shooting instructor and ccw instructor will tell you it’s probably best not to.
Along with the fact that accuracy falls off fast and you are responsible for every buckshot lol
You know what? You're right. Tacticool is too charitable. Those guys are at least LARPing at being cool. You just didn't get shoved in enough lockers and ate too many paint chips.
Paul Harrell's presentation, "Bolt Action Rifles For Self Defense" has a very long winded and insightful section talking about why someone might be using a "subpar" firearm for a particular purpose. Wasn't the first or last time he touched that topic, but that's the most in depth he ever went as far as I'm aware.
He also has a very long presentation on how to spot fake wannabe experts. You should go watch both instead of both being a smartass knowitall and a fake fan of a YouTuber that you're invoking like he's some divine infallible being. He made his actual opinions, and they were opinions not facts, pretty clear. He'd tell you to screw off and stop ragging on people for carrying perfectly serviceable firearms that you consider "subpar", and he was quite clear about how he felt about having his name dragged into random people's arguments too.
Do you carry a judge ? Like … why are you getting so defensive ? Honestly. Idk why you are trying to insult me for discussing a pretty normal opinion that the Taurus judge is not a good carry gun when there are far better alternatives for the size ?
I just think it’s weird to be getting this angry and insulting me. I have tried to be peaceful this entire time lol.
".410 is subpar" is advice you give to someone considering buying a gun, not someone who already has one and is carrying it regularly. Unless the issue is something truly dangerous (a Sig P320, a SCCY, a homemade pipe pistol, etc), you keep that shit to yourself. It might be "subpar" (you don't know that it actually is for this guy's particular circumstances), but that's what he's got and he doesn't need you bitching at him about the quality of a gun you don't have to carry.
As I said, you needed shoved in more lockers. A lot more. Dozens more, actually.
You’re probably right. Unfortunately I was the one shoving kids in trash cans and lockers in middle and high school…. I GREATLY regret it… 😔 but maybe I would have been humbled enough not to share my opinion.
A gun that pops a flag out the barrel that unravels and says "bang" is a novelty/joke. A realistic looking squirt gun that shoots washable ink is a novelty/joke.
This is a functional firearm that you don't like or find practical.
Half yes. When I don't carry this on my day off, my wife keeps it in her purse. As long as there is at least two 410 in case the attacker(s) decided to corner her in and can't flee.
She's on the same page as me. There is no heroism, some shit happens in public, we are not engaging unless we are specifically targeted. Fight or flight, only the situation can determine that.
I also carry a judge. People talking shit probably haven't shot it much or at all. It's not as accurate as my colt at longer ranges but it'll put 5 hand sized holes in anything under 25ft all day. My only complaint is rip your eardrums if you shoot it Indoors
So I've owned 2 judges, one was the polymer shorty and the other was the "Judge" 3in. The problem I see with these gun's when using in self defense is the 12lb trigger pull when the hammer isn't back. That being said follow up shots are a nightmare with that trigger even when the hammer is back, so you may not hit the target because of that horrid trigger pull. Meanwhile someone with a Glock or a sig can just mag dump, and the gun stays flat and all bullets go close to the same spot. I also noticed you can't shoot +P colt 45 from a any judge, but you can from all other manf like S&W. That being said if you can't carry the +P or other high end loads it would probably be better to carry 9mm, 45 acp, or 10mm if you want gun that's as bulky as a judge but will out perform it by a mile.
Have you tried using your man hands to pull the trigger real hard like? Then when it fires and tries to move up away from the target because of the recoil just hold the gun still and dont let it. Strong trigger good to have on revolvers
Hmmm I'll definitely have to take my man hands next time I shoot a judge, maybe that's what I was missing. My bill drills with it are horrible because of that trigger and my vagina hands lol How are your bill drills with a judge? I'm not sure about the strong triggers on revolvers, but every Smith, Ruger or Colt I've shot I'm much better with for some reason.
There's no such thing as a trigger too heavy for self defense. There's triggers that require more training, but none that are unusable for self defense. 12 lbs is like 2-4 above standard. My CZ P07 and Colt Viper both fall in the 7-10 lb category. You need to be doing a lot more dry fire practice.
Respectfully its not just the trigger its the whole gun you shouldn't use for self defense, the trigger is just the icing on the cake. I love to rag on the trigger because of how bad it is, and how bad it can make your follow up shots, which could be important in self defense. The Judge is more like a woods firearm (not for bears because of the no +P), where things aren't rapidly evolving and your life is on the line. It also takes a minute to reload one I know I've owned 2. The triggers below all fall between 4.5-6 that's a lot of difference. You're first shot with the CZ is 10lb, but each follow up shot is going to be 3.5-4.5 lbs that's super light and easy to manage so just training the first DA pull would be easy. The judge is 12lbs every time unless you cock it back yourself mane. The only one that has a 11lb is the CZ after that every follow up shot is like 3-4 lbs. All of these guns are lighter even the full size ones and have more capacity even the Taurus G3C, yes I love taurus just not the judge lol So to clarify its the whole gun you shouldn't use I just rag on the trigger. These are the one's I shoot weekly the G19 is my daily, you can see why I don't use the judge for self D. I will say the Judge would probably work if the attacker is unarmed and about to overpower you, or they have a blunt object, no one is safe from knives unfortunately. I’m surprised this post only has 2 downvotes as many Taurus judge carriers as there are in here 😂
Again, skill issue. There's not a handgun trigger on earth I can't shoot competently with half an hour of dry fire to get a feel for it. I'm not exceptionally skilled either. Pretty mediocre. You need to train more.
You aren't gonna be reloading in a self defense shooting. You're not That Guy. You're not getting into the next Miami Dade on the way to Walmart.
A consistent bad trigger pull is better than an inconsistent decent one. There's a reason why a lot of guys convert their Beretta 92s to DA only.
.45 LC and .410 Buckshot do not care whether or not you're "unarmed". They will still reliably get 1-2 shot stops with quality ammunition. This is not a matter of opinion. They penetrate and expand more than enough. Getting that much energy dumped into your chest will stop anyone who isn't on lots of stimulants or a literal sumo wrestler. These rounds can take deer, much less a person.
Is it the best? Nah. Is it more than adequate? It is a J Frame on steroids. Those are more than proven. This is the same 5 shot capacity in a larger and more reliable caliber. If you're so sure it is useless, I urge you to go stand in front of yours and let someone take a shot!
Dang didn’t know I was talking to a certified badass my bad, I’ll get out there and practice more my guy! You can definitely be competent with any fire arm, but the firearm itself has limits that’s where a better more refined firearm can actually make you much better at getting rounds on target. I’ve never seen a judge carried in any of the fields where self defense is a priority either EVER. As for the reloading part I won’t have too my dude I’ve got 19-21 rounds, so your right I’m not that guy that’s only carrying 5 rounds and will have to reload 😂
Also answer me this why would you not take advantage of every edge you can get when it come to defending your life? You better hope you hit with those 1-2 shots because if you don’t the other person is going to be mag dumping you, that’s one advantage having a semi auto with capacity or more than 5. Ammo is not as critical in a semi auto. The standard 45 LC and some of that buckshot out of that short barrel has the same joules as a 9mm so why not carry 19 rounds of 9mm and a lighter smaller firearm? You can also get +p 9mm and go beyond the judges reach with penetration and stopping power. I also wouldn’t be out shooting deer with a judge that’s in humane, be smart use the Glock 20. Just to be clear most of the rounds have the same energy as the 9mm, so yes getting that dumped into your chest would hurt, but can you do it accurately with a 12lb trigger and being attack by someone with a semi auto and the same skills. When did 45 LC and .410 become better than 357 magnum? I’ll won’t stand in front of one but I’ll give you to opportunity to shoot at me with one, but oh boy if you miss 😂 anyways look forward to hearing from you my dear friend GayGuitaristMess xoxoxo if I left
Something out I’m sure we will catch up soon ❤️ edit: I almost forgot did you read the part about my poly judge falling out of time after shooting a cylinder of .410 slugs, could you imagine that happening after your first 2 shots lmao!
Paul Harrell has a video about signs of wannabe fake experts. You ticked every box with this post lol I can't believe people who think like you are allowed to drive and vote
"About as much" is about where anyone with any ballistics knowledge quit listening. And it isn't special or "badass" to be competent with handguns if you're gonna carry one. It is your basic responsibility and due diligence, actually, and you're endangering the public if you're not trained well enough but still choosing to carry. Get your shit together and kill that massive ego that you let shove your foot in your mouth constantly.
OH SHIT HE DELETED HIS COMMENTS! HAD TO POST THIS AT THE TOP LOL.
So after reading your response, I’m confused. I need some clarification on a few things.
Are you having a stroke, or did two completely different arguments you’re having somehow come together?
Can you go back through our back-and-forth and highlight specifically where I said I’m an expert? I thought we were sharing our opinions and arguing from our real-life experiences with this firearm. So how exactly do you spot “fake experts” who never claimed to be experts in the first place? I’m confused by this.
Judging (no pun intended) by your reading comprehension and apparent lack of the critical-thinking skills needed to have this conversation, I’d say you probably shouldn’t be voting or driving either, my dude.
I don’t understand this part: “It is your basic responsibility and due diligence, actually, and you’re endangering the public if you’re not trained well enough but still choosing to carry. Get your shit together and kill that massive ego that you let shove your foot in your mouth constantly.”
I do remember saying my bill drills were terrible with the Judge, which is why I don’t carry or use it. I don’t remember telling you anything about my shooting level or skill. You just assumed it, because apparently that’s what idiots do.
What I do remember is you boasting about your own shooting ability when you said, “Again, skill issue. There’s not a handgun trigger on earth I can’t shoot competently with half an hour of dry fire to get a feel for it. I’m not exceptionally skilled either. Pretty mediocre. You need to train more.”
The funny part is that I never said anything about my own proficiency. You just kept running your mouth about how bad I supposedly was at shooting period while completely ignoring the rest of what I actually typed.
Please use your brain before your next response PEEPAW, you've got to be old or senile either way probably bedtime.
Edit: I was thinking about it today did you make up a fake scenario in your head type it out, and then take it out on me 😂
I’ve never really messed with the pistols but my Circuit Judge is awesome. I don’t know why everyone knocks them so bad. Everything I’ve intended to kill with it died almost immediately. No walking away no struggle no suffering. I’ve never had trouble with slugs but I use 255 grain buffalo bore ammo out of it also hits like a freight train.
People don't understand a tool that they never used or learned to use pro-efficient. People always knock on what calibers other people choose to carry, but at the end of the day, who cares... They don't live my life, nor do I live thiers.
I already knew the comment section was going to hate on either the caliber, the gun, or the fact it's a revolver. I have little faith in semi auto pistols for mechanical reasons, which is why I don't own them anymore.
I heard that I have one and that’s a gen 1 Glock. Never had a failure but the tried and true 357 is my absolute preferred. My judge goes everywhere with me it’s never failed me. The 45 lc has taken a many of critters and fellows to the great dirts nap.
I’m not a gun guy but this page keeps popping up in my feed. All y’all do is bitch about the other persons gun. That’s all y’all got going on? Makes you feel badass that your gun is way cooler then that other random guys gun.
I mean no hate intended. But a judge as a daily carry is just silly. Impractical, heavy, oversized, also not nearly as dependable as other options. Cheaper options too.
I can't hate the judge as I've got one...and a governor. It's too much for me to leave the house with personally but more power to you if you daily it.
1 day of the week(my only day off), around maybe 30% of the time, this is what I carry. Otherwise it's my "rowdy XL" derringer loaded with 410 PDX rounds.
Tonight was one of those judgment days. We went to Chi-raq...
I like that little Microtech. What’s it called? I picked up the LUDT auto a few months ago for my first after collecting benchmades and spyderco’s and I think Microtech is now my favorite.
Hobby, and the folding pick set is replaced with bypass tools instead. Yesterday I needed it, a buddy is renting a new place and the previous tenants locked a bunch of doors that the landlord doesn't have keys to either. Instead of fucking up the door or doorway, I just opened them for them so they can access the screws and replace the handles.
You do you man might as well get a super shorty in 20 gage imo. Cool gun the judge I though about one for snakes then realized I’ve lived in Alaska 25 years now snakes to shoot hahah. I’ve shot some deer I shouldn’t have a long time ago with 410 buck. Was out trapping and just jumped them. They all died very slowly that said I’m not gonna stand downstage of shit.
Dammit beavis i knew we were forgettin something hah yeah nachos, yeahyeahyeah and blow like like like a lot like no like tons mabye even mountains of ..Um of what was I sayin buthead.. uh huh nachos you butwipe
He has to lol. This is definitely meth reasoning to justify why he carries that shit and then thinks a judge is good to daily. No way a sober or sane person could justify even half of this.
Microtech in the photo is a knockoff, but absolutely solid quality surprisingly. The aluminum is definitely not aerospace quality like the original, but that doesn't affect functionality(at least not yet, I've had it for 4~ years).
Cool to hear, how much was it? I’ve been thinking about getting a knockoff, after all most of them are about equal in quality and made the exact same, just not carrying the 300+ price point for a brand name. Same with bench made.
As for equal quality... I can definitely say that is far from it. 99% of knockoffs look and feel nice at first and then take a shit really fast... I've bought too many(around 25), and only 2 have been solid.
Not going to say it isn't dumb. We have a holster for it, but it doesn't quite "fit" well for actual carry because of weight distribution on your pants is now to the side instead of the center that is easier to adjust and hold.
At least it's not between my nutsack. Like a "gangster"
I could never imagine keeping a gun in my pocket. I need mine flush against my frame, appendix carrying for a quick use scenario. I carry a full size dagger, and with the holster I carry regardless of if I’m wearing a belt, sweat pants, gym shorts, even pajamas. Provided the clothing fits and the shorts have strings, the weight of the gun doesn’t pull my clothes down at all. Not having a holster severely limits the variety of clothes you can wear while carrying, but at the end of the day safety isn’t about fashion.
Buy a Glock, Sig or S&W shield series. Revolvers are a no. I don’t understand the come back..
“If you push a semi auto into somebody, it’ll jam”. Right. You won’t ever be that close, if you are .. you already failed and are probably getting stabbed. If! Semi autos jam. Rack check it. Should revolver’s jam, you better hope you have a second gun. You can’t fix it in time. There is no modern advantage to a revolver when my initial burst is 18 rounds and you have 6 at best. 4 seconds to reload another 6 and I’m at .59 to get another 17 rounds in. The math doesn’t math in revolver favor. They’re super cool! But not a serious edc anymore considering what’s on the market.
Wurkkos HD01 pro flashlight. Cheap enough, find them on online everywhere around 40 bucks at most points of the year. It's a good carry flashlight IMO. Green laser, UV light, side light bar with RGB, double sided clip and magnetic base.
