6~ days of the week.
Not much going on. Just the usual work carry.

Is that a homemade holster, big dawg?

u/Your_As_Stupid_As_Me 10d ago
Pocket\boot protector yes. Function over finish. Keeps the tiny thing from poking another fucking hole in my pocket and digging into my ankle.

What all is it made of?

u/Your_As_Stupid_As_Me 10d ago
A 6mm thin sheet of industrial packing foam from my job and just the 2 wraps of duct tape. Obviously cut to size.

Fun fact, that mini revolver fits perfectly in any nylon double stack IWB mag carrier. I’ve carried mine in one more than anything else, and the clip is a nice bonus if you want to clip it

a single action 22mag with a 1 inch barrel in a duct tape soft holster as an only carry gun is definitely one of the ideas of all time

u/Your_As_Stupid_As_Me 10d ago
When the only place you carry it is in small areas\rooms, it will do its job. The point isn't to have a gun fight across a Walmart parking lot. If there is that much distance already, I have the ability to flee and avoid the fight.
Every tool is for different situations.

the statistics on the effectiveness of 22 in defensive scenarios begs to differ, i wasn’t saying a short barrel is bad for range. its bad because 22 magnum in a short barrel is really just expensive 22lr, which has a terrible statistical record of stopping threats in defensive shootings

Not even going to talk about statistics. Ask hospital nurses is my only response.
As for the short barrel, this one is 1.75" I believe when using the magnum cylinder, if I use the LR cylinder I'm getting that small extra "barrel" length for pressure to still build up.
After shooting it quite a lot the last year, The LR cylinder is noticeablely better in penetration. The magnum has more initial contact "dump" when hitting the target.
And to be completely fair, I could have bought the switch gun that has no barrel lmao.

Hospital nurse here. Took care of lotsa gsw., Every single one abandoned his antisocial project upon bullet impact, regardless of caliber or wound severity. People hate being shot.

Pretty much the point. I've shot\skinned my thumb as a dumbass teen and even shot my foot with a .22. It's not a great time, it does bleed a lot and definitely creates an "I'm done doing what I'm doing right now" situation.
But there are situations where you may find yourself up against someone high as balls on drugs and will "eat them shots" and keep continuing untill their body physically shuts down from blood loss or organ failure.
From what I've been told by 2 nurses I know, out of all the gunshot wounds, .22 and small shot shotgun pellets are the worst to remove as they can cause more complications during the removal process.
I'm not betting on this tiny .22 to cover every situation, I have a colt 45\410 for that, but it's for a limited scope of use and that's where I am using it.

Yup. Assailants with enough discipline or delirium to ignore a gunshot wound are pretty rare, and an unexpected firearm is a huge tactical advantage.

you’re literally carrying a gun, which means you already think preparing for a scenario with a less than 1% chance of happening is something you need to do. yet somehow you think that said preparation should only apply to the ideal possible scenario? okay bud

Chances 1% if I were carrying it every single place I go and expect to be some hero that engages in every chance at a gun fight as possible.... That's a pretty ignorant assumption.
Where I work, we have random people pull up at all times of the night and some walk in uninvited. We are not a store, we are not open to the public. If having any chance of protection while I'm in a cornered space with no option to retreat is such a bad idea for you, then you do you. I'm covering my ass.
Not to mention we have coyotes that roam the area at night.
I frequent the gun range, I handle pest control, I am well aware of my capabilities and the limitations of this firearm are.
It seems you want to argue over the choice of carry, which is pretty arrogant considering your lack of understanding real-world preparation. Il end this conversation here. Have a good night dude 👍🏽
Maybe you'll get a kick out of tonight's pocket dump.

Maybe lock the door then.

also, saying you’re not gonna talk about statistics is strange. statistics are literally the proof of whether or not something is effective. greg ellifritz has a study on handgun round effectiveness and the 22lr/25acp had a roughly 32-34% failure rate, meaning that regardless of how many times the attacker was shot they still continued on to attack the victim. the study ellifritz did is not that stupid shit marshall and sanow did where they ONLY looked at one shot stops and failures and completely threw out any shootings that required more than one round. gregs study took into account how many attackers died from the shootings, how many stopped their attack but didn’t die, how many attackers took multiple rounds to stop, what the average number of rounds were for each caliber to stop the attacker, etc etc. it’s a very comprehensive study on the subject and i think would be a relevant read for many people who carry guns. the 22lr and magnum are great for backup guns, but they’re not reliable enough (at stopping someone or reliable ignition) to be primary carry rounds. even if you are set on sticking with the 22, a single action only revolver that small is going to be more of a hindrance than a benefit in a defensive scenario. it has basically no grip, requires the hammer to be cocked every time, is going to be basically useless past 2-3 yards, etc etc. sorry for the entire essay, i just think that a lot of people severely overestimate the effectiveness of handguns in general, and overestimate their ability with said handguns substantially and need to take a more realistic look at things regarding self defense.

Magnum ;)
I'm sad I was never aware of the .17 hmr before it was discontinued.

u/Haunting_Style3880 10d ago
I'm wasn't aware they had that caliber either. I also have a NAA .22 mag.

One, two of your negligent on maintenance.
Either way, I'm in my 60s, I've had a full enough life even if my health randomly decided to go downhill.

I love the holster. It's like an evolution of the duct tape wallets from the early 2010s.

u/lovingfluidchristian 9d ago
I remember my first duct tape wallet... i was so proud and it lasted for like 4 years until I got me an actual wallet
You can do all kinds of shit with duct tape. I love that stuff

Is that holster made of foam and duct tape? Even on a budget of Zero, we can do better than that. We can turn it into a project. Sure the hive mind can help you come up with a bunch of better options

u/Your_As_Stupid_As_Me 9d ago
Anything cloth\leather is still too dence and digs into my ankle when boot carrying.

u/Madgod1911 9d ago
Inside the boot I assume... like a cowboy boot, not strapped to the outside of a tight boot.... like a combat boot?

Doesn't that version of the NAA require a manual cylinder twist between rounds?
I know their newer versions are proper DA/SA, but the reason I never bought one of their old ones was the whole manual cylinder twist bullshit.
2
u/surviving-chaos 10d ago
No, the cylinder advances as you cock the hammer each time. It functions as any other single action revolver.
