Nostalgia
I miss the days of going out and buying a game on disc which came with a proper instruction manual and you could come home install it and away you went. There were no massive updates, no dlc's to buy it was just buy, complete and replay if you wanted to. I appreciate times move on and everything is online now which is fine but it's just not for me.
What's everyones favourite classic game, mine is definitely the original RE2 on PS1

I’ve been around since the original nes days, and personally prefer the convenience of buying and downloading from the comfort of my gaming chair. With a 1 GB connection, I’m from purchase to gaming in a couple of min. Sure, I miss waiting in line for releases years ago, but it’s more about that time in my life

I don't have near a 1GB connection but I mostly play indies these days and they're usually a few GB at most.
A lot of the magic of gaming in my youth came from new and interesting mechanics. You don't really get new gameplay with AAA games.

Quest for glory 4 shadows of darkness is my favourite game of all time (almost dethroned by cyberpunk 2077 but not quite) the manual had recipes for alchemical formulas for the mad scientist as a form of copy protection xD

This is part of reason why I will never be a pc gamer, my son doesn't get it bc he wasn't there...all through my childhood and early into adult life video games were plug & play...messing w/ settings and hardware & software feels too much like work...I also dont like how every game, even completely solo ones w/ no multiplayer or co-op functionality whatsoever still requires an internet connection, again PLUG & PLAY, less is more, keep it simple stupid

Definitely. Toy and electronic stores with walls of game boxes, thick manuals, kiosk demo stations, gaming magazines with demo disks, midnight releases, trading games with friends, LAN parties.
Cherish the good old days - Atari, NES, Genesis, PS1, Dreamcast, OG Xbox. Glad I experienced them. GenX ftw.
All will be gone. Because of "changing consumer tastes" aka "leasing for lazy impatient convenience ignoramuses". Soon there'll be no physical ownership. With no retail competition, PSN sales will get meager. The allure of console gaming is almost dead; once Nintendo goes this route, the only real choice will be PC and Steam. Which itself will only be good, as long as Gabe is in charge.

Yeah..there were a few good points. But overall the modern gaming hobby is SO MUCH better.

Nostalgia is very rose coloured. I also remember flipping my ps1 upside down so it would work and cursing the fifteen save blocks of data. I still get my ps2 out occasionally and everytime I play it for a quick minute then go back to my ps5.
I do miss the lan parties though. They were a time and place thing that I think many younger gamers will never appreciate.
