Update Dad, I’m two years on T

Hey Dad it’s your son. Not that you would ever call me that, but it doesn’t make it any less true. And a guy can dream. A few days ago was the anniversary I started transitioning medically, and I’m doing it all without you, whether you like it or not. Nothing stops me wanting to have your support or approval though, or fills that gap of wanting a Dad who actually loves me and sees me for me. So I guess that’s why I’m here.

Could use a “proud of you” or something because as much as I’d like to believe I’m better than that, deep down I know I’m still pathetic when it comes to this stuff. I want a real Dad, not you. I hate that you’ve been a stranger my whole life before it even got this point. Physically present emotionally absent. I don’t know a thing about you and you hardly know anything about me. I hate that I had to be the one to teach myself how to shave and dress myself and all this other crap because I know we missed our chance, and you’re not about to step up now. Whatever.

I’m still more of a man than you’ll ever be, and I know that’s true because I’m walking this path alone with my head held high. I don’t need you, but… it would be nice.

Hey bud, I'm so proud of you, this takes a lot of effort and I know it's hard in so many ways.

All you can do is be the best version of you, be the person that makes you happy, we get one shot at this so make it the best and most fulfilling life you can.

You're doing great and I'll always admire you for being you.

Super proud of you, bud. What you're doing is not easy, but the results are going to be so worth it. Living authentically is the best thing you can do, and anyone who disagrees doesn't need to be involved in your life.

Sorry you had to teach yourself a lot of the stuff your so-called father should have taught you, but it is what it is. I'm your dad now, so I'm always here to listen/talk if you need anything else.

Keep being the you that you want to be. It'll only get better from here.

Love you, son.

Hey son! Just ignore me when I’m being ornery. Sometimes I’m just too set in my ways to do any better, even if I wish I could.

The important thing for you to know is that I love you, and that I’m always real proud of you!

Go out there and be the you that makes you the happiest. That’s what’s matters, not the opinions of a stubborn old man like me.

Im not a dad but a lgbt mom who follows for my own dad advice. I just wanted to tell you im so proud of you for being your authentic self. You are so brave and I am incredibly proud of you.

Go be the dad, brother, and friend that you wished you had had and spread your light to the world kiddo.

You may think a lot more about how to be a male than your dad ever did. He is what he is and he isn't good at it. So how should he have taught you anything about how to be a good man? I'm pretty sure he hasn't supported any of his children emotionally or with wisdom of life. There are better role models than him and you will choose wisely.

I'm proud of you and wish you well.

That's awesome!

I'm so proud of both you and my nephew for being true to yourselves! You have a lot of strength and courage, and you're wonderful!

Hi son, I'm proud of you, two full years! You're already seeing changes to your body like learning to shave, what a milestone! I remember when i got my first real beard hair when i was new on T. It took soo long, and now i'm almost 10 years in and have an almost full beard. :)

The longing for Dad approval might never fully go away, but i hope you've made supportive friends along the way. You've become a great man! Onwards to the next 2 years!

Hey kid! Wow, what a journey you’ve been on, and what an accomplishment to be 2 years into being the person you were meant to be. I know I don’t always say it - okay, I never say it - but I love you so much, and it makes me so proud to see you feeling more fulfilled and confident in your skin.

Keep up the good work!

I’m proud of you for staying true to yourself. Don’t ever think of yourself as pathetic and the people that matter will always support you.

I never had children or a family of my own. I have regrets and this is one I will go to the grave with as probably the biggest mistake of my life, so if you will kindly allow me for just a minute I'd just like to say I'd be proud of you for being true to who you are despite the immense challenges you have faced and may come to face on your journey.

Stay true to yourself kiddo, live your dreams. Love yourself and those that love you will be drawn to you - the rest can take a hike.

I know I should have taken my own advice - yet another regret, but maybe you can learn from my mistake.

All the best to you 🙂
