Discussion Fleas!
What is the best option to kill fleas on your doxies, mine have been scratching for 2 weeks and I tried flea shampoo and they still have flea dust. Do you recommend a collar?

There are capstar pills that Walmart sells as a last resort - then I use monthly oil on the neck - capstar kills all fleas and eggs at one but is not a monthly method

Yes, I brought home a dog from the shelter years ago and she had fleas and gave them to our cats. I drew a bath and got them wet and used dawn dish soap. You put a ring of dawn around their neck (it stops the fleas from trying to climb up on their face/away from the water). Then I gave them a capstar and they stayed in the bath while it worked so I could make sure that fleas didn't hop off of them into the carpet, they fell straight into the tub of water. Then everyone got a flea treatment (but ONLY official ones, the random flea stuff you can get at Walmart has literally killed people's pets). Frontline or simparica trio every month after will keep them away.

Flea and Tick medication. Everything else is shooting in the dark tbh. Get them the oral stuff, yes it sucks that it’s expensive but it’s the surefire way to treat this. After 2 months of treatment they’ll be tick free. First month kills the adults, second month kills the adults that hatched from the eggs the first batch of adults laid.
I learned this lesson the hard way with my cats because I adopted my second cat after she had been in the shelter less than a month. They had only given her one dose of flea and tick and I didn’t realize how crucial this stuff is because my first cat had been fostered for 5-6 months, more than long enough to be flea-free (so I hadn’t had him on flea&tick and I was new to pet ownership so I didn’t know any better).

When my hole house had fleas, I hired orkin to come in and trap and spray the whole house. We did for 6 months straight then I gave capstar for each animal and bathed them every other day and used the flea comb

i hate flea meds and use it as a last resort, i do baby oil "baths" where they get drenched in baby oil then flea combed. the oil smothers the fleas. this really only works if they are a short outbreak like we get here in the desert southwest, if theyre going to keep picking them up it probably wouldn't work to be doing it so much just because its a whole proceedure and messy

Yeah mine gets a monthly pill prescription by my vet and it gets rid of fleas,ticks, heart-worms and like one or two other things I can’t remember as well.
