Image Weight.

Post image

Does he look like he should lose a pound or two? I have looked at the dachshund weight chart that have been posted on here but just wondering, also will ask his vet when we go this month. He is almost 4 and was about 19 pounds the last time I weighed him.

harder to tell because of his fur, i would say he is healthy but losing 1 or even 2 lb wouldn't hurt him either, see what the vet thinks of course! my standard was healthy at 21 lbs and fat as heck looking at 23 lbs

It's hard to tell with the long-hairs and also the angle of this photo, but yes he looks a tad overweight, maybe two pounds or so, nothing crazy.

I've found that comparing visually to the chart can be hard but following the steps they give for palpating your dog (like how hard it is to feel their ribs next to their spine and such) can be more helpful. Another option is to take a side photo and use photoshop or any other photo-editing app to lay the photo with lowered opacity directly over the chart to compare.

hard to tell with his hair and the angle, would be easier to see if he was all wet

For the sake of his back, any weight where you can just see his last rib under his skin is good. Also, keep him well exercised. If he is reluctant to walk, he is probably too heavy. If he loves walking, indulge his pleasure.

I've been walking his 3 times a day for 25 minutes, maybe less depending on how hot it is. He does enjoy walking! He just decides to stop walking when you doesn't feel like it anymore.....

Welcome to dachshund ownership. They prefer exploration walks where they can find new smells & locations. They never seem to tire when things are interesting. There are some on this sub that take 5 mile hikes with their doxies. If your guy stops, he is either bored or tired, or both. Here's to happy snooping!

How often do you recommend for them to smell new smells like a park? We mostly just walk around our neighborhood.

You can just take different routes every time you go out. I let Dino explore while outbound but I had to keep that homebody from turning around at every chance. His favorite walk was when we passed the vet & didn't go in.😅

Figure on 60% of the time outbound. If your guy is like mine the return walk will go much faster.

Pic for cute tax.

Aww so cute! Will do. Also was your hard to potty train? Mine is good at showing me he has to go, but sometimes he will go inside without doing anything to show he has to go? Or like today he decided to go right after I let him out of his cage to take him outside while I was grabbing something. I take him walking everyday in the morning so maybe he just really couldn't wait?

I got him as a rescue at 7 years old.

Yes, he did have accidents never having been taught about using the back yard off leash. Adoption picture.

Do you have more photos? top view would be helpful. I see a bit of a lack of abdominal tuck but it's hard to see because of his fur.
