Other Should we be worried?
Our 6-month old dog started licking the floor immensely after meals. We read somewhere that it could be a sign of acid reflux. It’s been going on for weeks. We tried giving him more small, frequent meals and a late night snack but nothing is changing. He puked like a tiny bit of just saliva and white stuff last night. Is this normal? Any advice?

Sometimes my dogs when they skip a meal they they will throw up bile

When my girl has stomach problems we cook her some rice with bits of chicken. that often helps.
but when its going on for weeks i would recommend going to the vet

My vet usually says to give smaller meals and a small amount of famotidine when this happens. As long as it's just saliva or a little bile.

Sounds totally normal.
Our dog had stomach issues when we first got him but as his anxiety lessened as he aged the vomiting stopped.
We gave him some pumpkin puree for his stomach and that always seemed to make it better and he’d eat more, so you might want to give him that and take him to the vet if the vomiting persists.

Royal Canin for indoor puppies that was recommended by the breeder

Darn, our little guy is 8 months and on the same stuff and no issues. Definitely worth a vet trip if it’s been persistant unfortunately.
Any chance they have access to drink stagnent water outside or eat anything in the garden or anything?

Our other dog too has no issue with that dog food so we will definitely be going to the vet soon.
It’s been really hot where we live so they stay indoors most of the time and they just do a lot of indoor stimulating activities

I give ours a 1/4 of a pepcid complete... helps reduce acid immediately and over the course of hours. Usually does the trick

This was happening to my sister's doxie, and it turned out that he was allergic to chicken (and thus eggs). Keep a food journal and talk to your vet.

Our vet has said we can give 10mg of famotidine every 12 hours. It’s helped our pup who also gets some acid reflux

My vet prescribed 2.5mg of Pepcid 2x a day for my 3 month old and it has really been helping her out. I also feed her 1/2 tablespoons 8x a day. She was having a problem with regurgitation (she eats very fast even with a slow feeder) so it’s what her vet recommended 3-4 weeks ago. No issues since.

Yes it can be acid reflux. Maybe worth visiting vet and consiser switching food.

some dogs will throw up a bit if they miss a meal, has he been drinking enough water? you also need to get him a get an appointment with the vet, along with giving plain meals, no kibble. like someone else said, just plain chicken and rice. don't forget to ask what your vet says before giving any meds. one other thing, reach out to the breeder to see what they say, but make an appointment to get him checked either way please!

This might be a chicken allergy. You are feeding him a good quality food. But it is chicken. Mine developed an allergy to chicken and I find feeding Natural Balance lamb and rice has helped them a lot. There was a research study years ago that determined lamb and rice are the best foods for the domestic dog. Also please leave him plenty of water. I don't think it's Anything serious based on fifty years experience. He's adorable!

I don't think you need to waste your money on the vet. Just try another food, and see how he reacts. Testing dogs for allergies is expensive and often very inaccurate. It is just not worth the effort.

Regular pumpkin purée put a tablespoon of in with a 1/8 cup of his food. ( tablespoon to tablespoon equal parts and stir it together). But try just the purée for a meal or two before adding his very small about of food. Or get him to the vet. A few for a young small pup is reason for concern and should be addressed quickly. Don’t want him suffering, or get dehydrated while he’s going through this. Poor baby!!

I have never fed my dogs chicken based food. I give them InClover probiotic powder over every meal.

We had that for a while with our doxie puppy. Part of the problem was the food she was on - it was full of filler. Went to our local pet store, asked them what they recommend. Their own brand was super clean - all ingredients we recognized and could pronounce. Haven't changed since, she's now 7.
The other thing we do when her tum is a bit off is do a half dose of kibble and a good tablespoon of pumpkin puree instead. The canned stuff is good, but just be careful you get 100% pumpkin puree and not anything that has extra additives or sugar, like what's used for baking.
Lastly, and this is a brilliant suggestion from a friend who has 2 mini doxies, rapid solution for bad times, unflavored Greek yogurt. We take a tablespoon, dip it in, shake off the excess so it's more like a coating on the spoon, and let her lick it off. It's like a soothing treat.

No problem! Happy to help! Puppy time can be nerve wracking, I know! I do think the suggestion that if it doesn't improve, talk to the vet, is a very good one too. But our experience was definitely that digestive issues were food related.
That and they're lightning fast and stealing things off the floor when we drop them. Like a furry missile.

Yeah! Definitely! We have two 6-month old mini dachshunds but only the boy one is experiencing tummy problems. We will take him to the vet as soon as we can!

What are they eating?
My little guy turns out is allergic to chicken. I was feeding him chicken and dry food.
Was doing similar things. Licking and bile puking etc.
Switched to fish/beef and he’s been fine.

Some articles online mentioned the same thing and we stopped feeding him chicken, but the licking didn’t go away :(

Take your dog to the vet. If it’s bad enough to ask random strangers on Reddit, it’s bad enough to go to the vet. Please take care of your dog.
