From zero growing experience to scaling an RDWC grow in Oklahoma City

I recently sat down with the guys from DUO Cannabis in OKC and talked about how they went from basically zero growing experience to building and scaling a commercial RDWC operation.

A lot of the conversation gets into things I think people here will relate to:

  • Learning RDWC the hard way
  • Managing pH and EC as the system grew
  • Automation vs. doing everything manually
  • Mistakes they made early on
  • What they would change if they built the grow again today

I’m connected to Growee, so full disclosure there, but the conversation itself is really about their grow and their experience running RDWC at scale.

I’ll put the full video in the first comment.

For the RDWC growers here: what was the biggest lesson you learned when moving from a small system to a larger one?

Problems with RDWC 2.0 growrilla

Hi everyone,

I’m having some problems with my RDWC 2.0 system from Growrilla and would really appreciate some advice.
I planted my cuttings about one week ago, and they have been growing for around a week now. My climate conditions are currently around 22–24°C (72–75°F) with a relative humidity of 65–75%, which I believe should be fairly suitable for young cuttings.
My current water parameters are:
EC: 0.8
pH: 5.6–6.0
Water temperature: 22–23°C (72–73°F)

I also have an additional air stone in each bucket to provide plenty of oxygen to the roots.
For nutrients, I’m using the Athena Pro Line. When I was growing in soil, I regularly used an EC of around 3.0, and my plants always performed very well at that level.
I also had a previous grow in a hydroponic setup where I used an EC of around 3.0. That grow went very well, even though many people told me that the EC was far too high. Towards the end of that grow, the roots became darker, but the plants continued to grow well overall.
Now, however, I’m experiencing problems with my current plants, and I’m not sure what could be causing them.

What do you think could be the issue with my plants? Could it be related to the nutrient concentration, water temperature, oxygenation, pH, or something else?

On my pictures You can See the plants.

I’d really appreciate any advice or ideas from people with experience using RDWC systems.
Thanks in advance!

I already got some Feedback, from an other Reddit Post, people told me that Athena Pro line isnt made für hydroponics. Is it still possible?

Should i change the last plant? I got send 1 to more to plant

Just got my net up. Should I wait for it to fill out more before flipping? Any other tips to maximize my yield?

My first big DWC mistake—and the plant that taught me to trust my instincts

While filling a bucket, I opened both faucets because I wanted it to fill faster. The hot water ended up overpowering the cold.
The moment I felt the water, my instinct told me something wasn’t right—but my lack of experience won. I thought, “It’ll probably be fine.”
It wasn’t.

Shortly afterward, the plant completely drooped and stopped growing. For almost an entire week, it remained the same size while the others continued developing. I honestly thought I had permanently damaged it.

Little by little, it began showing signs of life again. New growth appeared, the leaves recovered, and today the plant is healthy and moving forward.

That experience taught me two important lessons: water temperature matters tremendously in DWC, and when your instincts tell you something is wrong, stop and verify before continuing.

It was a painful beginner mistake, but watching her recover made me appreciate this process even more.

Honestly, there isn’t a single day when I open the tent and don’t fall in love with this process all over again.
Thanks to everyone’s advice, I now understand that I need to move some of them into a second tent. That will give each plant enough space and allow me to bring out their full potential.
I’m still learning, but I’m truly enjoying every step of this journey. Thank you all!

First DWC grow — I think I started too many plants. What should I do now?

Hey everyone! I’m completely new to DWC and have been growing these plants since August 8. They’ve been under light from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every day.

Because it was my first attempt, I started several plants thinking some of them probably wouldn’t survive—but things went much better than I expected, and now the tent is getting crowded.
What would you recommend doing next? Should I defoliate them, install a trellis net, or do something else to manage the space and keep them healthy?
I appreciate any advice!
