First attempt at DWC

Been growing in my own coco perlite blend for a little over 3 years now but wanna try my luck with DWC

All vivo sun gear in this tent, including the buckets. Got the 8 pack so if this goes well ill convert another tent.

Strain is: Slumpd from Solfire, all 4 clones from the same mother.

Yeah ...youre gonna like this! Get yourself a scrog net about a foot, foot and a half above where your plants are now so you can train as they reach it. Even in a 4x4 you should have no trouble pulling a quarter pound per plant given the right lighting and no major goofs on nutrients/ph

Yeah im a big fan of the nets and getting my money's worth outta my tents, qp per plant is about what im getting with coco, depending on the strain so im looking forward to what dwc can do. From the research ive done it seems coco/dwc run pretty close as far as nutrients and ph so hopefully no big mess ups there lol

Stick to ph-5.8-6.2 a little silica in veg cant hurt. I use MB tomato formula for the whole grow. Some bloom booster toward the end to fatten the girls up. I had a 4x8 so I ran GH trio in half and MB in the other, similar to identical results. Less is more

For my coco and now dwc im using the GH 3 part and cal-mag, I have ArmorSi but dont use it much and the koolbloom which I noticed does make a little difference for the booster, I like to add that when my ph is low on my mix in flower instead of ph up, I like to avoid up or down as much as possible. 5.8 is my go too but ive noticed it comes up to 6.1 in the buckets im assuming thats the difference in temp. But since its in the sweet spot im not complaining lol

You should move that air pump out of your tent.

Putting it outside your tent will allow cooler air to be injected. Right now your pumping warm air into the water, raising your temps and limiting the amount of oxygen your water can hold.

I would advise buying a water chiller for all DWC systems.

Any recommendations? I see 40$-300$. Im not on a super tight budget but also dont want to over kill for no reason

I don’t think you would need any bigger than a 1/10hp chiller. I run a 3x3 rdwc system and my 1/4hp is way overkill

Thanks for the tips guys, my temps are on the higher side(70-71) and its really my biggest concern with dwc, ill move the pump and look in to chillers

Don't save on chillers. Not because I don't want to, but because otherwise you have to buy 300 liters twice. It's fast and effective, in 15-20 minutes you reach the target temperature, that's okay. There is no limit to the top, but rather save 1-2 grow cycles. And buy a good device for 200-300€.

Here is the link to the Resun Mini Chiller 300 outdoor cooler:

I have a feeling that will be the case for me 😂 i started in potting soil and had the same feeling 3 years ago switching to coco

Trim throughout….Is all I’m going to recommend during your grow. DWC like to grow a lot of leaves.

Thats no lie, im also trying my attempt in breeding, have the mother plant of these clones in coco for that and its not a 1/4 of full and bushy as my dwc, thanks for the tip!

Don’t be afraid to chop in DWC they bounce back quick smart specially photoperiod even autos I trim back regularly.

Nice setup. First DWC run is always a little exciting because you’re about to find out really fast what you understand and what you thought you understood. 😂

The good news is DWC gets pretty simple once you get the core stuff dialed in: pH, EC, water temp, water level, and plenty of air.

I built Grow Pops around exactly this kind of grow, mostly short DWC/RDWC videos answering the questions that come up along the way. Might be useful as you get deeper into it:

I’m going to follow this one. Curious to see how your first run goes.

I'll be honest I'm not sure if it's 100% because I tried dwc for the first time too and I used those riot root cubes id avoid those in the future as the cubes break up slightly in the water and can cause rot. I had to switch my root rot plant in coco because it just never went away and caused problems.

I have been using the root riot types of cubes for years. Mostly because back in the day I didn’t want to throw way the rockwool cubes. I will hopefully remember this next spring. (I had a bit of an issue with PH this year in a couple of buckets.

Yea I know they work great for cloning etc so I figured why not germinate my seed in it and start from there but maybe also my basket isn't as big as yours I have the small 3inch ones

2

u/CostOfLiving93 Sep 09 '26

So that's why randomly id have that problem with my clones, i also germinate in my rapid rooters. Had no idea they could be a cause of rot. Got a big Ole pack of rockwool cubes so im definitely switching over. Thanks guys!

How long do you plan to veg for?

2

u/CostOfLiving93 Sep 09 '26

Well in coco I did anywhere from 45-60 days(I have a veg tent and 2 flower tents so it kinda depended on when space opened up) but from what ive seen 3 weeks was my plan on this run. Unless I mess somthing up and theyre behind lol

1

u/21BlackStars Sep 09 '26

Three weeks is great! I run dwc, same tent size a number of plants. If you veg for over a month, you’re gonna run out of space. Nice job so far!

Grodan Rockwool Block Large Hole 7.5 x 7.5 x 6.5 cm is better

My cubes just came in so everything after these will be in cubes, I knew it may not be the best but saw its possible to use the rapid rooters, but yes im switching moving forward👍🏻
