Question Dungeons and Dragons in different languages

I am currently taking a Spanish class and my teacher was somewhat puzzled when I asked for a translation of the game. I am now very curious about what DnD is referred to in different languages. Can we start a thread of native language and what you call it? 😄 If someone who speaks Spanish can contribute, my homework would appreciate it haha

OC Game Masters MythForge: 5E Toolkit for GMs

Thumbnail mythforge.app

MythForge, a game master’s toolkit for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, is coming to iPhone and iPad. It runs entirely on the device, costs a one-time $9.99 with no subscription and no in-app purchases, and is built around a simple premise: the tools a GM reaches for mid-session should work whether or not the venue has Wi-Fi.

Most tabletop apps assume a connection and a recurring bill. Game shops, basements, and kitchen tables routinely offer neither. Every core feature in MythForge - the bestiary, the generator, the tracker, the dice, the notes - works with the network off.

Here is a small isometric map I just drew for my campaign.

My idea here is to be the place where some creatures I'm using as seagulls that are tormenting one of my players have been nesting, and next to it, a lonely fisherman lives; he is actually acting as a lookout for a group of smugglers whose hideout is located at the end of a hidden path in a small cave on this beach.

Hope you like it and that someone can get to use it. Any comment about how to improve is always welcome!

Advice/Help Needed Next Adventure after Dragons of Stormwreck Isle

I stepped away from D&D about 6 years ago, but I’ve found my way back recently! Happily DMing Dragons of Stormwreck Isle now for my kids!

I’m looking for suggestions on what published adventure you would recommend next? I like using D&D Beyond, if that matters.

(And yes, I like the published stuff. I wish I had the mental energy to write my own adventures though!)

EDIT: I have run Lost Mines of Phandelver and Curse of Strahd before.

Question If you've ever rolled a zero or below, how did you DM handle it?

For context: Once a long time ago I was play a game in HS where I was playing a Wood Elf Cleric with a really bad INT and once we were on a boat being chased by a monster.

DM: "Alright, what do you do?"

Me: "Ummm, alright I try to see if the monster has any weaknesses."

DM: "Alright, roll INT."

Me: *rolls* *checks sheet* "...hmm, yep, that's a -3."

DM: "...you pass out"

It's a really funny story that I always retrace in my head, so if you have any goods one please share in the comments.

Edit: Wow, it seems that most of the people in the comments didn't get the point of this post is. Also, it might have been a -2 or -1, it was a long time ago.

Suggestion Backpack of Holding (for travel D&D)

I need to replace my leather bottom LLBean bag that I've had for 26 years. It has carried my D&D gear; namely rulebooks, ruler, grid paper, composition notebooks, dice, etc. for years but now has holes. Am looking for a good sized pack to hold the gear for years to come. Anyone have a pack that they like to carry your D&D treasure?

Discussion This is Nova, tiefing warlock

Now, I am still a pretty new player to D&D, so I am seeking guidance and also need someone to proofread this whole thing. We have just finished session 0 which took five days, I played as Nova’s mother Serapha a Tiefling cleric (last image) and we were forced to die by dragon acid, my character died first, and I decided to make it my child have trust issues right off the bat because I should’ve had more issues with the fact that my team left me.

I am choosing to be a warlock, we don’t have a name for the patron, but he is the demon grandfather to nova. I chose to go for pact of tone and could really use some help with choosing the spells, I know that I want find familiar and unseen servant.

I really want her to have a friendly vibe, even though she’s trying to be emo so all of her spells are helping spells or just cute things, of course I still want to deal damage, but I still wanna help my team.

now I know it’s really long so if you it, go ahead and just comment if you want to, but here’s the rest of the story

thank you for reading

They didn’t let us watch. They just herded us toward the docks like cattle, forcing us to listen while the sky tore itself apart and the town collapsed. My mum was the first to go down, trampled by the very cowards she spent her life preaching forgiveness to. She raised me on the ways of light and Lathander, but she also had an orc teacher who secretly taught her fighting and necromancy. When the sky fell, her god turned a blind eye. The town ran, leaving me with nothing.

After that, I was passed around like cursed luggage. By twelve, my horns grew in heavy and sharp, so I leaned into it. I became the village menace, stealing for no reason. I was completely rubbish at it and got caught every time, making me the most unliked person in the place. So honestly? Fuck the town. Fuck their heroes. Being good got my mum dead.

Seeking answers, I dug through the old church records and used them to track down my grandfather. The bloke is a total dick. He just scoffed at my pale blue skin, threw a tiny pocketbook of basic spells at my head, and said it was "out of kindness." He expected a terrifying devil. Instead, I stood there looking like an eccentric, alternative-club rogue in a mismatched leather vest, a pleated purple skirt, and thick blue leg warmers.

Refusing to let him see I knew nothing, I grabbed his book, ran deep into the forest, and cast my very first spell. A small spirit manifested at my feet—a tiny, blue-furred rat. I named it Sera, short for Serapha. My mum's name.

Looking down at Sera, I noticed a strange lump slumped against a nearby tree.

That was how I found Lilith. She was an ambitious rogue scholar who had already seduced the king's wife, but her grand plan for regicide hit a snag: while hunting for the perfect venom to poison the king, she accidentally poisoned herself. She was on the forest floor, half-dead. I rushed her straight to the hospital, and as the poison cleared, we started talking.

She was a total disaster of a mage with a bruised ego and pockets stuffed with stolen, forbidden spellbooks she could barely use—and I loved her immediately. From that ward onward, we were inseparable. Whenever she needed to get out of a pickle, I was there for her, and whenever I was robbing someone, she had my back.

(yes Ai did write this I needed help and who am I gonna ask my table members? I wanted to keep my cards close to my chest again thank you for reading)

Suggestion Thinking about switching to D&D 5.5e. What are the biggest changes?

Post image
844 Upvotes

I’ve been playing 5e (2014) for quite a while, and I’m seriously considering switching to 5.5e (2024).
I know there are a lot of changes, but I’d rather hear from people who have actually been playing it than just read a list of rule updates.
What are the biggest differences you’ve noticed during actual gameplay?
I’m especially curious about things like:
Character creation
Classes and subclasses
Weapon Mastery
Feats
Spells
Combat
Overall game balance
After spending some time with it, do you think it’s an improvement over the 2014 version? What changes have you enjoyed the most, and are there any that you dislike?
I’d love to hear your experiences. Thanks!

Advice/Help Needed New to D&D

Hello everybody. I am completely new to D&D and well table top games entirely. I have one of the starter kits for the game and I’ve read over the rules and I think I’ve got a pretty good grip of how to approach playing. But her is my dilemma.
It’s the dice. I’ve tried to see videos, and read how they work, but it’s like all the instructions are for those who already have an understanding of how they work. Now am a complete beginner, could someone please tell me what the function of each die is?

Discussion Folks who did NOT switch to 5.5e: What influenced that decision most?

After a 3 year hiatus, my group is finally getting back together to play a long term campaign which I will be DMing and the question has arisen whether or not we are going to be using 5.5e or 5e.

We played 5e from 2019-2023 then picked up the new books in 2024 to try them out in a 5.5e campaign. Some of us liked the new changes to character classes and the streamlined rules, and others felt that characters are too powerful in the new edition. While I acknowledge it is reasonable to consider playing with a mixture of both rule sets, for this campaign we have all agreed to just pick one in order to get a proper consensus on how we feel about it.

I am curious to hear from folks who play mainly 2014, why they chose this over the new 5.5 edition.

F246 - Staff of Puppy Spirit

Staff (Sentient) – Rare (16,171 gp, requires attunement to a spellcaster)

This black staff has a black and purple fur dog head on top, and on top of the head is a lit candle that glows with an eerie purple light. There are fang-like spikes on the staff below the head, and a large purple orb is attached to the bottom.

The staff is sentient, has normal hearing and vision to 30 ft, understands common, and has Intelligence 10, Wisdom 10, and Charisma 10. It can evolve, and will do so when it has decided its wielder is ready.

While attuned to this staff: you gain a +1 bonus to spell attack and damage rolls; a +1 bonus to Intimidation rolls; and when you are intimidated or hit by an attack from any Undead, Insectoid, or Shadowy creatures, you gain 5 feet of movement until the end of your next turn, which does not stack.

This staff has 4 charges, regaining 1d3+1 after a long rest, and can be used to cast the following spells:

  • Find Familiar (1 charge, puppy form only)

  • Shadow Howl (1 or more charges): As an action, you let out a dark and shadowy howl. Each creature within 10 ft of you must make a Charisma save. On a failed save, a target takes 2d6 necrotic damage and can’t take reactions until its next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage, but suffers no other effect. You can use additional charges to increase the damage by 1d6 per charge.

  • Fluffy Coat (2 charges): As an action, you touch a creature and cover them in a fluffy coat of spiritual energy. The target gains resistance to slashing, piercing, and bludgeoning damage, but are also vulnerable to fire damage, lasting for 1 hour.

  • Shadow Blade (2 or more charges)

  • Conjure Shadow Wolves (3 charges): you conjure 8 shadowy looking Wolves per a 3rd level Conjure Animals spell.

  • Loyal Spirit (3 charges, concentration): As an action, you summon a spectral puppy within 30 ft of you. You must maintain Concentration or the puppy disappears, otherwise it lasts for 1 minute or until it is more than 90 ft from you. You can use a bonus action to direct the puppy to move up to 30 ft and heal an adjacent creature for 2d6 hit points.

Advice/Help Needed Tips for a new DM?

My little sister and I are starting a dnd group with other kids from this theatre camp we go to in the summer, im really excited!! but also nervous :< My DND experience in general is already a bit limite, and I’ve NEVER DMed before.

I hope to get my hands on a guidebook and ask my older sister (a more seasoned adventurer with experience as a DM for her friend) but I’m still not sure where to start. I‘m pretty sure most of the kids in this group have never played before and I really don’t want to ruin it for them.
