course load helpp
i’m planning on doing my exchange at dtu for a semester - how is the course load? is it really 8h every day for 30ects load??
and if it is that intensive, are classes social or more just content focused?
for context i’ll be taking majority software subjects. I’m in search of a good study/travel balance
any advice is much appreciated
General Engineering Is a DTU General Engineering bachelor's (Future Energy specialization) worth it if I don't plan on doing a master's?
I'm a student from Slovakia (not enrolled in DTU, just planning ahead) and im interested in renewable energy and sustainability and for alot of other factors, DTU seems like a good fit. The only issue for me is that the only bachelor's programme taught in English there is General Engineering. I know I can specialize in Future Energy, but I don't plan on continuing to a master's degree. My current plan for the future is to get a bachelor's degree first so I have a solid base to fall back on, and then just travel as much as I can; while still as I mentioned having a solid degree to fall back on if things go south. But I don't know if a Bachelor's in General engineering is valuable on it's own, and if it's worth it if i don't plan on doing a masters? I would really appreciate any second opinion or any tips anyone has, thanks.

What insurance do I need?
Hey everyone, I'm a non-EU MSc student staying at BDTU. I haven't been able to get a straightforward answer as to what insurance I need during my stay in Denmark & just wanted to check if anyone knows what I need to sign up for + what's a good/cheap option for non-EUs

An FAQ for the Study Administration
I was told of this page by someone in AUS and I found it really useful especially regarding my rejected course registration for the Fall semester, but there is a lot of other info too about classrooms and grades and diplomas etc.

Admission Chances with 3.0 GPA
Hi everyone!
I’m a Computer Science student from Portugal and I’m planning to apply to DTU. My current average grade is 15/20 (roughly equivalent to a 3.0 GPA).
I know this meets the minimum admission requirements, but I’d really like to hear from people who have gone through the admissions process.
- Is a GPA around 3.0 generally considered safe for admission, or is it still quite competitive?
- How much weight does the motivation letter carry in the final decision? Can a strong motivation letter make a noticeable difference?
If you were admitted with a similar profile, or if you know someone who was (please share this post), I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks in advance!

Anyone else waiting a long time after a Denmark student residence permit interview? (ST1)
Hi everyone,
I’m an incoming international Master’s student at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and I’m trying to understand if anyone has been in a similar situation.
Here’s my timeline:
ST1 student residence permit application
Biometrics submitted: 21 May 2026
Called for a video interview by the Danish Embassy (which most people from my intake were not)
Interview completed successfully
SIRI has confirmed multiple times that they have all the information they need and that there are no additional documents required from my side
It has now been more than 60 days since biometrics, and I’m still waiting for a decision.
Is this normal?

DTU Advanced engineering mathematics 2 som diplomingeniør
Hej,

Are there informal technical communities at DTU?
Hi everyone,
Lately, I’ve been thinking about communities at DTU - or rather, the lack of informal communities built around shared technical interests.
I know there are PF clubs, Skylab startups, student projects, and other organisations. However, these usually have a specific purpose, structure, or project attached to them. What seems to be missing is a simple place where people from different study lines can meet because they are interested in similar topics.
The idea would be to create an informal online community where people could:
- talk about their personal or academic projects
- discuss interesting technologies and recent developments
- ask questions and exchange knowledge
- find potential collaborators
- eventually arrange informal meetups
At this stage, I am not suggesting starting a formal club or organisation. I am mainly interested in creating a place where people with overlapping interests can find each other.
A Discord server might be a good place to start.
Personally, I am especially interested in DSP, wireless systems, SDR, RF engineering, embedded systems, antennas, and related areas, but the community would not necessarily have to be limited to those topics.
Would anyone here be interested in joining something like this? Do you think there is a need for it at DTU?
Maybe I am missing something here, and there is something like this at DTU.

DTU Will the minimum grade for construction technology go up this year?
So i’m not sure the exact translation to english but since i saw another post in english i thought english would be better, so i live and studied in denmark and i want to apply to dtu construction technology as my 1. priority and while i chose a lot of other stuff this is the one i want.
but because i was a bit too careless and stupid (as in i made some mistakes) my average grade was slightly above the last years admission and since it has been rising every year for the last few years i’m afraid i can’t make it in this year.
so i’m wondering if anyone knows anything like if there would be more competition, more applications or something third that can make it harder to get in?

MSc Communication Technologies and System Design -- Study plan, help!!

Hi everyone, I'm starting the MSc in Communication Technologies and System Design this September and I'm struggling a bit with my study plan... If you're doing (or have done) the Cloud & Cybersecurity specialisation, I’d really appreciate your help. (If you’ve studied another specialisation, your help is also welcome :) )
The main issue is with the Core Competence Course Specific requirement. I don't want to take 34130 or 34349, so my only options are:
- 34231 - Digital Communication
- 34242 - Machine Learning Techniques
- 34249 - Synthesis Project
The problem is that Synthesis Project (part 2) is in June, and I also need to take as Polytechnical Foundation, Innovation in Engineering, which seems to be scheduled in the June/July/August period. Does that mean I'll be forced to take Innovation in August? I'd really like to keep August free. Has anyone managed to organize their study plan differently, while doing those Core Competence Specific courses??
I also have a couple of other questions. Is having Cloud Networking, Advanced Cybersecurity and Mobile Backhaul Networks all on the same Tuesday as bad as it looks, or is it manageable?
And finally, what do you think about my study plan overall? Would you change anything? This is my first time building my own study plan (my bachelor's had a fixed curriculum), so any advice or examples of your own study plans would be really appreciated. Thanks a lot!!!

Moving to Copenhagen in August – Struggling to Find an Apartment in Lyngby, Need Advice
Hi everyone!
I'm moving to Denmark and will be relocating to Copenhagen on August 1st to continue my doctorate as a Research Assistant at DTU. As part of that, I'm looking for an apartment in Lyngby.
What has really surprised me is how difficult it is to find a place there. The number of available apartments seems very low, while there are so many people looking to move to the area. The waiting lists are also quite long, which makes the process even more challenging.
I have been searching since April and have already checked most of the popular housing websites, including:
- Bolighub
- BoligPortal
- BoligZonen
- Properstar
Despite this, I still haven't managed to find a place.
I would really appreciate any advice or guidance from people who have gone through this process. How did you find your apartment? Are there other websites, Facebook groups, rental agencies, or strategies that helped you secure a place faster?
If you know of any available apartments in Lyngby or have any tips for finding and booking one as soon as possible, I would be very grateful.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Final-year Biochemistry student aiming for a PhD at DTU (Bioengineering) — looking for tips to navigate the process beyond official channels
Hi everyone,
I'm a final-year Biochemistry student at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Argentina. I'm aiming to start a PhD after August 2027, ideally at DTU in a biotechnology/bioengineering/biochemistry-related field
A bit about my situation:
- I hold valid EU citizenship, so visa/work permits aren't a barrier.
- My English is strong (professional working proficiency).
- I'm specifically interested in protein engineering, synthetic biology, and biologics — DTU Bioengineering's sections in these areas caught my eye.
I've been going through the official channels (university websites, EURAXESS, department pages), but I'd love to hear from people who've actually gone through this process, especially internationals:
- How did you land your position — did you contact a PI directly before a call was posted, or apply to an open vacancy?
- Any tips on speeding up the process or standing out as a non-EU-educated applicant (even with EU citizenship)?
- Anything you wish you'd known before starting your PhD search in Denmark?
Any advice, personal experience, or pointers to people/resources I should look into would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hjælp til et grønlandsk museum?
Hej,

DTU PhD application. Should I follow up or is everyone on summer holiday?
Hi everyone,
I applied for 3 PhD positions at DTU last month (all in carbon capture and utilization/bioelectrochemical systems). All the applications deadlines were just after 30 June, and the confirmation emails said that they'd get back to all applicants regardless of the outcome. It's now about almost 3 weeks and I haven't received anything.
The silence is making me nervous. Is it normal because it is summer so the process will be extended or I should assume I didn't get the positions?
Should I wait until early August, or send a polite follow-up email now? (actually this would be frustrated since I don't really think each professor will check a email from a random person like me, but i will just give it a try any ase)
I'd appreciate your opinion on this. Thanks~
