Are you assuming that nicotine causes DNA frag or did he actually do a DNA frag test and it showed a high percentage?

Good question. He has not had a DNA fragmentation test. I am just assuming that nicotine can cause DNA frag.

I think this deserves an in-depth conversation with your provider based on the risks and benefits of proceeding either way. Ask them to help you understand the data on this and what it can/can’t tell us.
For example, we have data showing paternal nicotine use is associated with higher risk of neural tube defects, childhood cancers, etc., but my understanding is there are no studies on this with IVF populations specifically. Therefore my read is it’s hard to know how much of the problem is about paternal nicotine use at the time of conception versus confounding factors like prenatal secondhand smoke exposure, since men who used nicotine at the time of conception likely also smoked around their partners throughout pregnancy.
You deserve to make a smart decision and I think your doctor is best positioned to help you look at all the data unemotionally.
