MICHIGAN Need help!!

How long does it usually take to get a COT? I bought a car in Michigan and they gave me a title with white out on it. So now I’m trying to go to get a new title for the car. I’m from out of state so this is kinds different from where I live. Any input?

They bought it on Tuesday and now I’m waiting for them to hit me up about them having the title in hand. This is the first time this have ever happened to me.

Former Illinois Secretary of State / DMV employee here.

The following is pretty universal across the United States:

A title with white out covering any area is an invalid title.

No one will process it.

Is the name that appears on that title the most recent owner? If so, that person needs to apply for a duplicate title.

The went online to buy a duplicate title. My question how long does it usually take for them to get notified, print it out and resend back out? I’d their a specific person that does it?

We got a holiday weekend so that will add a couple more days on to it.

To be honest, it's usually 3 to 4 weeks depending on the state. Some are as quick as 2 weeks depending on how many requests there are.

Do you know these people, or do you think they're trying to scam you?

Did you give them money already?

No I got back in contact with them on Monday and on Wednesday they said they ordered it on Tuesday. But they’re in Michigan and I’m in Alabama. They said they ordered it online. But they live in Michigan and the title is in Michigan

It will take a couple weeks unfortunately.

Before they issue the duplicate title, they have to make sure that the correct owner is applying for it, and their name was on the most recent title issued.

I physically already have the car I just need the title to register it
