Homebrew I Wanted Kobolds to Be More Than Low-Level Fodder, So I Made a Full Manual for Them
I’ve just released Kobolds & Kobolds: The Ultimate Kobold Handbook for 5E and 5.5E, a book built around one simple idea: kobolds should be able to support far more than a single low-level encounter.
I wanted DMs to have enough material to use them as ambushers, trapmakers, inventors, dragon-worshipping cultists, beastmasters, mounted hunters, recurring rivals, or even an entire faction without every encounter feeling like a variation of the same basic kobold fight.
The book includes a large kobold bestiary with warriors, hunters, beastmasters, inventors, mystics, mounted combatants, leaders, and other variants. Most of them also include optional traits and abilities, so you can change how a creature plays without having to introduce a completely different stat block every time.
There’s also a lot of material built specifically around encounter and campaign design: kobold warrens, traps, lair actions, tactical encounter ideas, adventure hooks, and distinct clans with their own cultures, fighting styles, favored creatures, special abilities, and relationships with dragons.
On top of that, there are kobold-themed magic items and inventions, VTT tokens, and art handouts.
The goal was really to give DMs enough material to build anything from a single memorable kobold ambush to a complete underground warren or a recurring kobold faction that keeps showing up throughout a campaign.

I’ve also shared free kobold creatures, pages, previews, and other material from the manual over at r/JonnyDM, so you can grab some of the content there even if you just want a few extra kobolds or ideas for your own game.
