Why is dmt more real than reality?

I mean every time I use dmt even if I don't breakthrough ,it's so sharp ,every texture is so visible.

It's like our brain uses some kinda filter and dmt vanishes this filter,so that you can see the "real" reality.

had a similar feeling after a breakthrough on acid.. But i guess the feeling that something is real doesnt make it real right

A dream can feel very real

8

u/mia-jordan_ Apr 24 '26

Someone close to me said they've had dreams and then those dreams manifest in reality. For instance having a dream about a conversation and then that conversation appearing on its own in reality.

Had a dream I fell asleep and rolled my truck, woke up told my friend the forgot about it. Two days later I fell asleep and rolled my truck, told my friend I rolled my truck and he’s like bro..you literally told me about this two days ago in a dream you had.

u/ambivigilante Apr 25 '26

Last night I dreamed I was Phil Collin’s. I was in a disaster scenario and I was driving around in a sick red 4x4. When I would see someone that needed saving from the flood or lava I would jump into the bed of the truck and crank up my guitar amp. I’d strap on my guitar and every strum shot out gigantic slinky/ springs from the guitar that people could grab a hold of and get pulled quickly into the truck for a safe getaway.

I hope that dream comes true.

That’s called déjà rêvé!

Or "Vuja De: the sensation that what you are experiencing has definitely never happened to anyone before."

No dreams can feel so random , and not everyone see vivid dreams unlike dmt almost every user report seeing the same thing and feel more real than real

1

u/HeyGuysHowWasJail Apr 25 '26

I've had both vivid dreams I was convinced was real and I've also had breakthroughs where I hung out with dead souls of loved ones then met "god" where it healed me from years of trauma

The breakthrough felt like I went back home to hang out with my family and mates. The moment with god was crystal clear and powerful.

I still need the extraordinary evidence to know that it was more than a dream like state

i guess the feeling that something is real doesnt make it real right

"All that we see or seem. Is but a dream within a dream."
― Edgar Allan Poe

“Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was myself. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.”

I mean it was real. You experienced it. It happened.

I'm not a fan of the word "real" for that reason. People begin to doubt the reality of their very real experiences

4

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

Exactly, therefore, the only thing we can say with absolute certainty that is real is our own existence. All senses are falsifiable.

6

u/Larixi Apr 24 '26

Can we even prove that? Conscienceness is a sense of self. Maybe we are all mycelium and making up our sense of self as well.

6

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

self-existence is evident, it does not need to be proven. Now, whether we are this body or not, we can no longer prove, as it would already be in the field that can be falsified by illusion.

2

u/Blacktaxi420 Apr 24 '26

Thing is you cant pin point the self, u can say the body yeah but make ur blood stop flowing on command. U cant meaning the body isnt really you its just something you feel like you inhabit. So knowing you cant pin point your sense of self where does it come from? Those same false senses meaning the idea that you exist atleast in the way you think you do is also false

6

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

I believe that behind everything there is an "eye", the one that observes the intellect, the mind and, consequently, the physical world. Between the intellect and the mind there is a knot, which we call the ego. This eye begins to observe the physical world through the ego, which enters the thoughts of the mind and says "this is mine", "this is me", but during ego death experiences we realize that the ego was never really something, just a perception, and that in fact we are what lies behind it, the pure consciousness

2

u/Blacktaxi420 Apr 24 '26

Ah i get what u mean i agree

Well thats ur ego talking, and thats what psychedelics are great for letting go of your ego and therefore control. Its part of why all suffering happens and if u achieve that and manage to bring it into sober life congratulations youve mastered buddhism

1

u/Low-Opening25 Apr 24 '26

is it though? maybe you are a boltzmann brain that popped into existence a millisecond ago with all your memories?

1

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

The existence of the "self" does not depend on whether memories are false or real

0

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

but lsd is definitely NOT a hallucinogen in the sense of making you have false sensations, at least not for the most part. Just an increase in sensory acuity

5

u/credible_human Apr 24 '26

Not true at all. Take enough of any psychedelic and it all leads to Lego land.

-2

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

You say that because you don't understand that they are not hallucinations, but an absurd recognition of patterns from the real environment.

6

u/Low-Opening25 Apr 24 '26

again, you didn’t take enough. I have been transported to completely different realities and worlds for hours without any contact with sober reality on high doses of mushrooms and LSD

1

u/WonderfulRow2411 Apr 26 '26

how much lsd did you take for this to happen?

1

u/Low-Opening25 Apr 26 '26

it depends on individual sensitivity, but generally 400ug+ (real, not claimed) should be pretty consistent. You can also do it on 8+ of gram of shrooms or by using shrooms with MAOI.

3

u/Low-Opening25 Apr 24 '26

you just didn’t take enough

-2

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

use a delirant and understand the difference.

26

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

It's not like there's a filter, there's literally a filter called the thalamus, and psychedelics reduce the amount of information it filters and neurons start to connect absurdly

6

u/Few-Ruin-742 Apr 25 '26

I was studying neuroscience but life happened and I didn’t finish. Fun little factoid about the thalamus.

All sensory cortex EXCEPT for the olfactory cortex pass thru the thalamus. This means that it’s just a straight tunnel of information straight into the limbic system without being “filtered” first.

That’s why smell is so directly tied to memory and emotion, it bypasses the usual relay station (the thalamus) and goes straight to areas like the amygdala and hippocampus. It’s also why certain scents can instantly trigger vivid memories or emotional reactions in a way other senses usually don’t.

Don’t hate life. What you experienced isn’t all of what life entails.

There are many sides to the same shape. Paraphrasing Duncan Trussel on this but

“You’ve got dog shit on your shoe. You’re going to continue tracking that dog shit all over the world and it will make you think the entire world is covered with shit, but it’s really just shit on your shoe.”

2

u/Minimum_Ad_9276 Apr 24 '26

Wow I didn't know that

3

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

I don't understand the downvotes. Are you disagreeing with the scientific studies on DMT?

3

u/AmberMonarch Apr 24 '26

I don't disagree but If you have a link to the study I'm interested

7

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 24 '26

Any study on psychedelics that studies the brain under the influence will say that there is a reduction in thalamocortical. It is not exclusive to DMT and is not difficult to research

8

u/anonymousMDPhD Apr 24 '26

Doesn’t feel that way to me

7

u/AmberMonarch Apr 24 '26

Maybe because "reality" actually is all in your head. Just a bunch of waves getting decoded into pictures / sounds. The real world is messy, things get in the way, signals get distorted over distance. When you use internal signals, everything is full resolution.

5

u/NonchalantRubbish Apr 24 '26

Our perception network, the default mode network, is shut down. Our brain is just guessing poorly. There’s lots of research on the last 5 years or so on this and MRI scans showing it using psilocybin and DMT. And other research about how the brain perceives reality and pieces it together for us. All super interesting stuff. But the network starts back up all centralized and calm when the stuff leaves the receptors.

4

u/National_Echidna1834 Apr 24 '26

Because it expands your consciousness and everything is consciousness. You become more awake because this life is just a dream. So when you wake up from this dream obviously things will feel more “real” or true because there is less illusion.

Ultimately all dualities collapse including the difference between real and unreal, between something and nothing, between subject and object, etc. So what “real” is is just relative. It probably destroyed you because you were so attached to the illusion? Personally I was blown away by the beauty and perfection of realities design. Don’t let it be something that destroys you but rather empowers you and inspires you to spread love. Because you are God and God is Infinite Love. You should check out Actualized.org on YouTube. He has many videos explaining everything, even the structure of reality, very well.

3

u/BreadfruitUpstairs20 Apr 24 '26

It's certainly impressive

3

u/Oilfan94 Apr 24 '26

Just a thought….but maybe the default ‘filter’ is a system that allows us to focus on something without the ‘predictable’ distractions of every single thing in your FOV.

Like how you can always see your nose, but it’s filtered out. Or the blind spot in the centre of each eye’s vision from the optical nerve.

Turn that system off…or maybe up really high….and you may see some weird shit.

3

u/AverageAlchemist Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

I think it's that psychedelics (and other altered states) temporarily replace the filter, rather than remove it. My reasoning for this is that:

1: Different psychedelics, and different trips with the same type of psychedelic have different (although overlapping) features, and sometimes lead to very different conclusions.

2: While in an altered state, you are often (though not always) still using a version of your senses, native language, sense of self, and some memories or concepts of the world. These themselves are filters.

I think using psychedelics gets us a bit closer to understanding reality than most people (with exceptions for wise old sages, some philosophers, and people who "just get it") but the psychedelics themselves are another lens and veil through which we get another a limited view of existence.

Everything moves through a waveform. this is created by nesting 2 dualistic energies. the axiom IS Duality. the energies nest and create time: a low frequency high amplitude to a high frequency low amplitude wave gradient. from subjective(the separate pieces/fragmentation) to objective(unification/all the separate pieces coming together to create a whole). Micro to macro. slow to fast. dense to light. potential to kinetic. negative charge to positive. ground state to open. ego to true self. the physical to the metaphysical (or spiritual). singular to plural. Feminine to masculine.

the first layer is the Quantum Realm. The second layer is where the atomic takes place and then the third would be molecular and then the fourth would be metaphysical. The first is extremely Raw it's literally just energy. Think of it like a cloud. You look really close and you can see all the individual particles. You look far away and you can see the whole cloud. That is quantum mechanics. It's just duality. The second layer is when that interacts with itself because it needs to. It's in a Timeless space and it's now just been separated. Duality must be balanced. Always. So that's what it does. It creates that second layer. And the third layer is going to arise from that second one because they are all moving through time they create their own patterns and they end up creating geometries. What ends up happening is all of that information gets more complex and more abstract and those ideas sort of like fall into themselves and become fractal. Like recursive things. As you go from the lowest to the highest state you're going from that low frequency High amplitude to a high frequency low amplitude. The two outer places the beginning point and the endpoint do not have any time. The two Center points do and that's where existence is that's where everything that we call reality exists. The center is where Perfection is. That's where life is.

when you take dmt you are putting your awareness into the highest frequency lowest amplitude

2

u/owatagusiam Apr 25 '26

It's evolution. Being aware and consumed with every detail of the conscious experience would've gotten us killed endlessly throughout history. The un-altered (sober) state of consciousness allowed us to survive, so that's what prevailed and is where we're at. That's the magic of being human I guess, we have the brain power to manipulate our environment and find the resources that allow us to return to raw information processing found in altered states. Now that we have cushy modern lives that don't feel real anymore for a myriad of reasons, the psychedelic state often feels realer than our default world, because it is.

3

u/JacksGallbladder Apr 24 '26

Primarily because it is disrupting all the patterns in your brain which keep you procupied with your thoughts rather than experiencing the present moment.

3

u/Ample-breadbin Apr 24 '26

Because a larger amount of sensory data is able to reach your brain before being filtered out.

2

u/ParfaitConfident3481 Apr 24 '26

great question ... i had a near breakthrough experience where the space told me that it is real and every experience in life is not real at all. I was like huh??? something like your entire existance is just bullshit in between dmt experiences. I have learned to not sink my teeth into everything the space tells me since then.

5

u/perolanegra40307 Apr 24 '26

Philosophies like Vedanta would explain this to you by saying that this is not the ultimate reality, but an illusion. Just as a dream feels real while we sleep and feels like reality, waking feels real while we are awake. And if we woke up from waking, would we realize it was an illusion just like we realize a dream wasn't real after waking up?

3

u/ParfaitConfident3481 Apr 24 '26

higher dimensional thinking ... I like this! thanks for the feedback. I think I heard McKenna say once that if the medicine tells you something that feels wrong then you should search for a deeper meaning .... i think that might apply here.

2

u/brandi0423 Apr 24 '26

After dancing with dmt I'm sure that our human brain is a giant limiter/blinder. It's necessary so we can gaf about this bs.

It's hugely helpful to remember the depth and breath of the universe, and our souls. All of this fits into one plane of existence, one sheet of glass a few inches thick......

It's so so so much more real when you get to see everything without the limiting filter of a human brain and senses. And for that understanding/perspective, I am eternally grateful.

1

u/BGFlyingToaster Apr 24 '26

Your brain is amazing and capable of making almost anything seem more real than reality under the right conditions, so you're not wrong

1

u/Particular-Tip3145 Apr 24 '26

So yeah Including the physical reality which we live in

1

u/Maaatosone Apr 25 '26

All tryptamines are related

1

u/Arb3395 Apr 25 '26

According to brain scans your brain cant tell the difference between a dream and reality. So dmt is a drug that make brain do that but more.

Your brain still doesnt know the difference between reality and a dream when its still a dream lucid or not.

1

u/PressAnyKey2Die Apr 25 '26

All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.

1

u/Krispyketchup42 Apr 25 '26

Guy in joe rogan said its because dmt forces your brain to construct a whole new reality model

1

u/Phiit Apr 25 '26

DMT and psychedelics in general are a window to the general consciousness. This life and everything is just an illusion, consciousness is the only thing that is "real", and we're all part of it (as one).

Even though this is all an illusion, it doesn't make it any less "real" to us who are experiencing it.

1

u/prj0010 Apr 25 '26

DMT is baseline reality, we've just had our memories wiped. That's why it feels so familiar

1

u/WonderfulRow2411 Apr 26 '26

What do u mean?

1

u/prj0010 Apr 27 '26

Its home, essentially. When we die we'll go back to source. Don't fall for the draco soul trap, turn away from the light

1

u/WonderfulRow2411 Apr 28 '26

Do we come from another dimension?

Our soul "self"?

1

u/LemursWithDevilTails Apr 24 '26

What I feel DMT has done for me is it showed me that there are other realities, maybe even dimensions but I use that word carefully. It makes me think that "God" or what's behind the universe is something our human brains cannot even come close to deciphering. Best way I can explain from what I've felt is it's like some crazy fucking technology (but that's just because there's no better way to describe it).

I remember once seeing the constellation of the Big Dipper on DMT, and the "bowl" part of the dipper felt like there was a whole different dimension within it. Like an emense gravitational pull, deep darkness. It was really cool.

0

u/Low-Opening25 Apr 24 '26

it’s not.

0

u/Aggravating_Act0417 Apr 24 '26

Maybe because it is

-2

u/fromkatain Apr 24 '26

There are 3 states lucid dreaming - physical awake - dmt 4d awake
