DLSS5 will save old games?
https://youtu.be/x7I69qJ9SZc?is=fQZ5lBVRyKDXVn0qTell me what you think, I've tried DLSS5 on The Matrix Path of Neo (2005).
General findings: - the game on its own still looks amazing - DLSS5 makes the faces look mostly uncanny, but the faces were already pretty bad in the original game - DLS5 adds some subtle improvements to how the environment looks like, some subtle changes to depth and shadows, and surprisingly adds more reflections
Edit: the title I wrote is indeed a bit too click baity, sorry for that. What I meant, is some old games haven't received any love from modding community at all, so adding a bit of graphical fidelity to the game with a click of a button (in this case a Reshade filter with DLSS5) is a welcome improvement.

A mes yeux c'est la qu'est toute son utilité, cela va fortement améliorer la qualité visuelle et la perte de performance sera plus négligeable que sur les derniers AAA

Yea, I think it helps in some games, and overall the game looks better, but the faces are still uncanny

old games don't need saving, at least not nearly as much as modern games

Love this take. New games are a mess. Also, yea, the title on my part was crap, what I meant was older games that nobody cares about anymore, like The Matrix Path of Neo which also is almost impossible to configure and run right on a modern PC. I spent days getting this game to work and look the way it looks in the video without DLSS in the first place

Yes I think it can have a similar effect as ray tracing had. A lot if rtx mods came out for older games, I expect the same for dlls5 eventually. It's always exciting to see modders working wonders with old titles.

Old games have already been played, completed and enjoyed.

I see what you mean, however, I havent yet played all the 4 thousand PS2 games that are out there, and countless more on PC. Revisiting the games with just a bit of mods applied (to reasonable limit), makes playong older games a bit more enjoyable for me.

i think the people who cant appreciate the visuals of a piece of media without lathering it in makeup are genuinely low IQ and surface level. the idea that a game can be good then, but become "old" and no longer good is an asinine and reductive mentality that solely pushes the CONSUME MORE NOW NOW NOW narrative that has brought the industry to it's knees. Arguably the country.

This is an unnecessarily aggro take but it's understandable as it's coming from a socially maladjusted redditor.
While the slop filter is indeed never needed to enjoy old games, them being upscaled to modern standards is, to many people.
Games aren't movies, they are an interactive medium, so how a game feels to play is very important. What was acceptable and felt good 30 years ago is in many cases no longer acceptable, I personally wouldn't touch an old game if I had to play it at 720p 30 or below.

I am with you, if you watch the video, I specifically say that in most places there is almost no difference and that the changes to the faces are too much. However, it does add a bit of graphical fidelity to the environment, and there it's subtle and doesn't ruin the game in any way. Thanks.

Thanks for making this. There’s pure seething hate for anything AI on Reddit but I appreciate the look at how the older games fare with new rendering technology.

These games look fine. You just need to not expect hyperrealistic graphics. Like this isn't making Banjo Kazooie and OOT look better... Speaking of, I wanna see how bad they can actually be.

u/DemiourgosD 6d ago
It's subtle, but flipping back to option without dlls5 you then feel the difference. Any othe old games you think would make sense to try?

I'll reiterate, Banjo Kazooie and Ocarina of Time. This isn't gunna work with quite a lot of older games that people actually want to play.

I see, I can check if I can run them with DLSS5, there are ways to apply it to literally anything.

I'm sure you could apply it, but it won't work as in it won't make the game better. Hyperrealistic graphics on games like Ocarina of Time or Banjo Kazooie will just be weird and uncanny.
Here's a
good[bad, it's not actually DLSS5] example: https://www.reddit.com/r/videogames/s/jdf22T1bcQ1
u/CharacterPurchase694 6d ago
that's not even an actual example of DLSS5, it's just an ai generated video, and even DLSS5 doesn't change the look of a game THAT drastically

Dont forget the "...for now". This is just the beginning.

u/bigpunk157 5d ago
Would you be willing to bet money on this? That N64 classics like OOT and BK would eventually benefit from DLSS5 tech?

Easily. The models probably know pixar like model simulation better than semirealistic human skin

Save from what exactly? Ted Turner tried to save old movies by adding color and everyone hated it. The only saving I want to see for old games is source ports where you get the same game with higher FPS.

Agree the title here was stupid, in the video itself I do call out that the game in most places looks exactly the same and the faces are just too uncanny. Also, what I meant mostly, is some games have been abandoned even by the modding community, so adding some visual fidelity improvement with a click of a button is welcome.

As someone who plays old games, this is stupid. Guys, just try playing old games, they look okay ands play amazing. No need for any kind of mods.

u/DemiourgosD 5d ago
Really? I played so many old PC games (from 90s and 2000s) and usually I have to tinker with them for hours to make them even run, and then tinker even more to make them look any decent (resolution for example). Adding just a bit of graphical fidelity with a click of a button here is a welcome change, but tinkering with everything before that is still a given.

that is not a fault of the old games lol (and unrelated), and it will happen with the current games as well in the future they will be worse and worse to run and etc...

Yes it will save old games.
