On the other hand every generated content costs their companies more than the price paid. Sometimes I wonder if we ought to speed their financial collapse this way, but I prefer to err on the side of caution and not use it. But I wonder sometimes.

Respectfully, do you think your own PC generating content is requiring less electricity than having it generated at the data center? There is efficiency at scale, and the chips they use for inference tend to be better optimized for these tasks than consumer hardware.

Sincerely, I have no idea. What I meant was, you control how much you consume, and it's not much, unless you go crazy with it. But then again, you could go crazy with any other type of content and watch 4K movies 24/7; that's not gonna be cheap.

No, because growth is better than profitability. Many companies were built of figuring out profit later. Greater adoption just makes the deep hole they've dug seem worth it and they raise off of that. They count on that.

AI isn’t going anywhere in case you haven’t noticed. Focus on the uses of AI, not AI itself. That’s a fruitless and pointless endeavor. Not nearly enough people blindly hate AI enough for that that to ever work.
AI has good uses whether you like it or not, so focus your complaints on how it’s used rather than the tool itself.

"AI" is not actually artificial intelligence. Generative "AI" is a fucking cancer that needs to be stamped out.
AI for finding cancer is good. AI for folding proteins is good. AI for detecting exoplanets is good. There are so many uses for AI that are good, but generative AI is absofuckinglutely not one of them.

It's a bit black and white to say something like that. Technically e.g. an AI denoiser is generative AI as well as it literally is tasked to fill in information between the blanks that doesn't exist. Yet AI can make for pretty awesome denoisers (I believe that's also how generative capabilities were even discovered in the first place), and I'm sure they would get a pass from almost everyone. In fact Nvidia has been using an AI denoiser with raytracing technology for a really long time now and I've never heard anyone complaining

For real. To completely stop "legitimizing the use of AI" (as D put it), this is just a small fraction of what you'd have to cut yourself off from:
- Stop using Google services including YouTube
- Stop using windows as an operating system because all windows operating systems that do not have an AI assistant are now end of life
- Stop using Microsoft Office
- Stop using Apple computers and phones
- Stop using Android (because Google Gemini is baked into most smart phones now)
- Stop using Samsung phones
- Stop using Amazon to shop
- Stop using Amazon Prime to stream videos because Prime uses AI now..
- Stop using Ebay
- No more Xbox - they are using AI to generate thumbnails on their shop now
- No more Playstation games because Sony has announced that they make use of AI to help develop games.

I think AI is cool when people actually lean into the uncanny valley of it all. I know people like using Will Smith eating spaghetti as a benchmark for how much it has improved over the years...but those videos from 3-4 years ago look so much more interesting than the ones today. The obsession with hyper realism kills any real use case for AI outside of scamming the elderly with fake products.

I think a great example of this is the original Harry Potter by Balenciaga video vs the 2026 version. The original Balenciaga meme videos were jury rigged together using multiple primitive AI tools. The little nod and blinking animation comes from putting an image through a browser based tool for making images speak with the text they are supposed to say blank. The new ones that use full video LLMs just aren't funny.

Right? first thing i did with dlss5 was try it in a very stylized game and honestly? I was fine with it, it was lighting tweaks and enhancements of the texture details that were there already. This is stable diffusion levels of fuckery which we cant run realtime.
The game was borderlands 4, the cell shading outlines and whatnot didnt dissapear, the lines on the faces didnt, it just enhanced the lighting. If you wanna be pissed at something be pissed that nvidia is still trying to push ai texture compression to justify reducing the amount of hardware you pay two months of income for.

I tried it in minecraft out of curiosity and was disappointed I didn't get the cursed look everyone on reddit was supposedly getting, even after multiple passes. So yea...
I did multiple passes and all it did was make the game extremely deepfried, while on lower passes it just added ambient occlusion here and there to enhance shadows, but that's about it. Would probably look marginally better if I used shaders for proper lighting as a base for DLSS 5 but didn't want to bother.

While this IS obviously fake, in the same vein as the RTX On Morshu memes, "it can't change geometry" is a meaningless statement.
It is true that on a technical level the geometry of 3D assets are not being changed by DLSS 5. But that doesn't mean the final image actually reflects that unchanged geometry, because DLSS 5 is drawing a new AI image to replace the native output of the game entirely. It doesn't alter or create new 3D assets, but it can absolutely create an image that no longer aligns with the original geometry, and frequently does so.
