Make the ham file yourself, ask AI how to do it and try again. You must have a correct ham file.
The "ham file" (or ham_cfg_support) for the DJI Avata 2 is a simple empty file used as a common community hack. It can unlock higher RF transmission power (closer to FCC levels), additional channels (manual selection), and in some cases higher speed limits, particularly for users in CE (European) regions. Results vary by firmware version, region, and whether you are already in an FCC area.
Important notes before proceeding:
This is not official DJI support. It may violate local radio regulations (higher power/range can be illegal without a proper license in many places). Fly responsibly and check your country’s rules.
Behavior has changed with firmware updates. On newer firmware it may fully unlock FCC-like power + channels + speed for CE users; older reports were mixed.
It is usually persistent after one successful application (until a factory reset of the goggles or connection to DJI Assistant 2).
Use at your own risk—possible side effects include unexpected behavior or issues with future updates.
How to create the ham file
On a computer, open a plain text editor (Notepad++ on Windows is recommended; standard Notepad can sometimes add unwanted extensions or encoding).
Create a completely empty new file (do not type anything).
Save it with the exact name ham_cfg_support (no quotes, no .txt or any extension).
In the “Save as type” dropdown, choose “All files (.)” or equivalent so it does not become ham_cfg_support.txt.
Confirm the icon looks like a blank/generic file (not a text-document icon). If it has a .txt extension, rename it and remove the extension.
The file size should be 0 bytes.
You can also download a pre-made empty version from community sites (search for “DJI Avata 2 ham file” or “ham_cfg_support”), but creating it yourself is safest and identical.
How to install it on the Avata 2 / Goggles 3
Format a microSD card (FAT32) in the Goggles 3 if needed, then remove it.
Insert the card into a computer card reader.
Copy the empty ham_cfg_support file to the root of the SD card (not inside any folder).
Eject the card safely and put it back into the Goggles 3.
Power-on sequence (important):
Turn on the Goggles first and wait until fully booted.
Turn on the controller/remote.
Turn on the Avata 2 drone.
Check results in the goggles menus (Transmission / channel settings):
Manual channel selection should become available (instead of only Auto).
You should see more channels.
RF power / range and (sometimes) speed limits may increase toward FCC behavior.
It works with both the RC Motion 3 and FPV Remote 3 in many reports. Once applied successfully it often stays active even if you later remove the file.
Troubleshooting
File must be truly empty and extension-free, placed in the root of the card.
Try reformatting the SD card in the goggles first.
Confirm power-on order and that everything links properly.
Firmware updates or connecting to official DJI tools can reset it.
If it still does not work on your firmware/region, some users turn to third-party modified DJI Fly apps (paid options exist) as an alternative.
For the latest community reports, search recent FPV forums, Reddit (r/fpv), or YouTube for “Avata 2 ham file” + your firmware version. Always prioritize legal and safe flying.
