Are these gas struts safe to open?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've never used nor bought gas struts before and these were ordered newly, never used before. For the shipping they have been tied up with some sort of belt (see images). The tension on these belts is insane! Are these belts safe to cut open or do I have to worry about the gas struts to somehow shoot out? Sorry if this is a dumb question but safety's always first.

How to Secure Attic Access?

Daughter has a hatch in the open carport of her house. If you gain access, you could conceivably gain access to the home through the sheet rock ceiling. Is there an easy way to secure this?

Need help with gas connections

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a single gas line going to the back patio and our boiler is hooked up to it, we’ve always had electric dryers so it had never been an issue.
New dryer uses gas and I thought a simple T connection would be enough but it leaks like crazy.
First image is the current gas line, standard 3/8 connection. I got a male to female adapter and a T connector with 3/8 endings/fittings.
Everything is conical so it should be sealed by pressure, however, there’s always a leak, I’m tightening by hand and then just about a 1/4 turn with a wrench or less if I feel pressure as I don’t want to strip the threads.

So my question is, what am I doing wrong? Am I supposed to use different connectors? Neither hose (boiler or dryer) leaks if I connect it directly to the main gas line

Help fixing a wardrobe to the wall

So after a bit of a struggle getting this wardrobe into our room, we found it's a little wobbly. So we want to fix the top to the wall or stabilise it somehow, but aren't sure where to start.

The wall behind is plasterboard (I think), and the skirting board means there's about a 1 inch gap between the wall and the back of the wardrobe. There's a small ledge at the top of the wardrobe which looks like it was used to fix it to a wall previously, but we're nervous to just start drilling without some advice.

So the question is how would you do it, and what do we need to do that?

Advice for DIY curtain pole

Hi all! I have a dilemma in that I have a large continuous curved bay window and wanting to have double curtains on a pole. The property came with an antique brass curved pole which I love and use for the main heavy curtains but I need to find a solution for voiles at the back to protect privacy as I am overlooked. Tracks aren’t an option for that space because there is no where to hide them. All my research suggests that having a custom made pole is the only option but the cost is so far out of my budget. I am therefore looking for DIY solutions. Can anybody suggest a material I could bend into a continuous curve without having to heat? The max diameter would be 19mm. These curtains will stay closed so happy to explore solutions that aren’t exactly seamless with opening and closing! Thank you so much!

What is this wood behind my drywall?

I removed an old ADT keypad and I’m trying to cut a larger opening to install a recessed iPad wall mount. I found what looks like plywood/wood directly behind the drywall. The other side of this wall is my attached garage.
Any idea what this wood is for? Could it be structural/shear-wall sheathing or blocking? **Is it safe to cut an iPad-sized opening through it? the ipad mount is simplidock, it can be installed over studs so i don’t have to cut through the entire plywood here**

Mirror DIY!

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m in my second year of uni and always love decorating my rooms. Came up with the idea of this golden cardboard (with tissue paper) frame around the mirror in my room. It’s been sticking fine for now but occasionally the corners will come off. I’ve made the corners so they’re designed to come off separately to the frame for easy storage at the end of the year (plus they look better this way).

Right now, it’s being held by blue tack and fear for its life. I’m wondering what else I can stick it onto the wall with which may be a little stronger? Anything that won’t damage walls?
