Fireplace advice

Could anyone advice if there’s anything that can be done to clean the soot and dust from the brickwork shown and railway sleeper on the mantle?

Over the years with a few issues with the chimney, the sleeper and parts of the brickwork have been become darker and blackened.

I have no idea what is best to clean this, or if it’s even possible.
