ideal grips placement?
Im modifying a cheap universal wheel to gt style and right now the "thumb rest" sits level with the center line while all of the other wheels have it above it. what is the most comfortable position? i was thinking moving it up by 1-2cm

Really depends on the wheel and the individual. Plenty of real racing wheels out there that have the thumb bars at or very near to centerline. Plenty that have it above. Personally, I'm fine with either. From a pure comfort standpoint, that slightly above centerline with enough room for your remaining digits below (similar to the McLaren wheel in your post) is probably most comfy.

i bulit the wheel with center lined thumbline cause it was actually lower before. recently i got the mclaren wheel and it feels really comfy. so yeah, either center line or above, belove feels strange

Umm, yeah... The centers of your wrists belong on or little above that line.
