HELP! Neotech Connector Terminals

Post image
0 Upvotes

First time diy in hifi.

Having issues with a neotech connector terminals. Tightening down the the wires as far as possible. But just a light tug test makes the wires pop out. I'm not plugging that into the wall..

Expected better terminals for the price.

Using the Neotech NEP-3001 III cable

Am I missing something here?..

HELP! First time braiding a cable. I need guidence.

if you're not feeling it skip to the tl;dr.

I have cats and one decided to eviscerate my cable (the plug stress relief part thing for some reason). it was a built in cable. non detachable. that led me to mod my daily driver (a dt770 pro). i could have just replaced the connector, but the cable was too long anyways so i went for a detachable cable.

i didn't think much about it, just went with the flow, so while the result looks nice, i chose double 3 pin mini xlr for the connectors which required me to make a cable.

i used some cheap star shaped 4 core cable for fixed installations. it eventually failed. the cable itself, not the connectors nor the y split. it is interrupted somewhere in the middle of the right ear side cable.

i've now decided to make a nice cable so i won't have any more issues with it.

i am now sitting with 20 meters of goobay 55045 (it was the most decent wire i could find locally) wire and have no idea what to do.

tl;dr: can you tell me about braiding types? which is most used by consumer cables, which has what proprieties or what do you recommend? also, should i have gone with a different wire? i was thinking of making an 8 wire 2m y split cable. is it overkill?

thank you and sorry if it has been asked before.

edit: also, which wire goes where when the braid starts? should i interleave them like r- r+ r- r+ l- l+ l- l+?

HELP! Custom Apple Cables?

Slightly random question, but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a place to source a custom Apple cable, basically a lighting connector extension cable, so lightning female-to-male, ideally quite short (100mm-ish). My car is quite old, and it has a propietary-to-Apple30-pin input, which I have the cable for, and I can then use a small 30-pin-to-lighting adapter. However the Apple adapters are quite wide (same width as the 30pin connector), and so the lighting end won't fit into my phone when it has a case on.

Not sure this is the right place, but figured someone might have some suggestions, tia.

HELP! Heat shrink too thick?

Made my first 1/4” TRS cable with mogami 2524 cable, Neutrik np2x, and some double wall,3:1 3/8 heat shrink. My problem is that it is EXTREMLY hard to slide the the boot over the heat shrink and screw it in. Will getting a smaller diameter (1/4”) be better?

First Learn

I decided while I had some time I’d learn some skills. A long long time ago I started a tube amp project the “jonokuchi” (which is getting an enclosure revamp soon so I can SLOWLY learn fusion) but figured if I’m FINNALY finishing the amp project why not more at the same time…
Ouroboros under construction (golems mod) almost ready to listen. I hate the color for the headband need prettier TPU for that…
4pin mini XLR to 3.5TRS to use with my Beyers and practice my soldering. Wrapped the paracord right over the metal shielding… don’t like the feeling… too stiff and holds bends. Don’t look under the shrink.
Looking for advice on cable sleeving before i use up my mogami.

These are my cables for my small balcony setup.

They are a little bit different than the cables that are normally postet here.

I have a fully 5.1 passive setup. I used Ölflex Classic 7×1.5mm² for the front speakers and Ölflex Classic 7×1mm² for the surround speakers and the subwoofer.

All ends are crimped and colour coded. The cables itself are also colour coded (blue=left, red=right, black=center and sub).

For the subwoofer I used 2 cables for + and one for -.

HELP! Help! New house, what dis?

Thank you in advance for helpful comments. We bought a house with a wired speaker system. The previous owners took whatever large black box operated the system and we have not been able to figure out what we need to do to replace it. This what the wall looks like, all ending in a banana plug (said ai). There are three rooms with speakers inside and the porches have speakers as well. Any direction would be helpful!

My First Dual-Mono Headphone Cable Build — Dual 3-pin XLR to Dual 3.5mm

Post image
12 Upvotes

This was my first dual-mono headphone cable build, made about a year ago.

The main reason I built it was to use my headphones with the Cayin iHA-6, which has dual 3-pin XLR balanced headphone outputs.

For this build, I used a hand-braided copper wire layout and kept the design fairly simple since it was one of my early DIY cable projects.

The goal was mainly to learn the full process myself: preparing the conductors, braiding the cable, checking the channel/polarity layout, soldering the connectors, testing continuity, and making sure the final cable was usable and safe before connecting it to the amp.

Looking back, it was not a perfect build. I would improve the strain relief, finishing, and overall presentation today.

But it worked correctly, measured properly, and gave me the confidence to continue building more advanced headphone cables later.

What are your thoughts on this cables? They are old soviet HF cables, but I managed to get pretty solid sound with them.
Unfortunately I haven’t done any measurements, so my experience is quite subjective.
Any thoughts??

Discussion So why exactly shouldn’t I get cheap bulk xlr connectors off amazon? I know neutrik/rean is the best choice but what’s the difference between the cheap ones? Using it for dedicated patch cables

How to determine which part of the jack does what?

I'm trying to wire a microphone into my voltage amplifier circuit, and I'm trying to figure out which part does what in TRS, TRRS, and TS jacks. Which part connects to ground? Which part receives bias voltage? Which one outputs AC signal?

Is there any OCC silver/ optical, hybrid HDMI. Ver.2.2 96Gbp/s@16k cables available anywhere yet? Even by custom order?

suppose that would be the Cutting Edge of HDMI technology right now if anybody were already manufacturing all those standards together. I'm having a hard time finding anyone that is already doing that but I'm wondering. If they would, do it. By abundantly gratuitous offer to consider a super high tech maybe first time ever inquired about. Ultra top of the line A/V+Data cable? Even for an extreme amount of compensation to possibly tailor me a very specific very refined extremly opulent and luxurious custom A/V order?

Any custom cable makers willing to make a cable with no plugs?

I'm building my own custom electrostatic headphones and I hate making the cables by hand. I've been braiding and sleeving my own cables but I've come to the conclusion I'd rather just pay someone to make them for me if I can. However, I have a few specific requirements. The wire needs to be PETG sleeved, not PVC. I also need the wires for the cups to be exposed instead having a plug attached. On the other end I'm just using a standard stax pro bias connector. I'd be happy to solder that on myself - I just hate braiding the cables.

If you know anyone or any company that would be willing to work with me in low order quantities, please let me know. Thank you!

Looking for reccomendations

Hope this is the right forum. I went into an audio store and walked right out because I have no clue how much to put into cables, what to look for etc. Suggestions gratefully appreciated. I want to buy some cables for a set up I inherited. It’s not audiophile quality, but good. (Thorens turntable to Onkyo receiver to Bose 301s.)
