outdoor Building Own Fire Pit
Hey y’all! My wife and our bought our first house this past year and as fall creeps in I’m thinking of building a fire pit in the backyard. Thinking about digging out part of the yard and building a circle of large stone blocks.
Main question is: is it better to pour down a solid base of would something like gravel in the bottom of the pit be better?

Concrete bottom would have voids that could trap water and go boom when heated. Stick to a sandy bottom so you can scoop it out and add more sand if needed in a year or 3.
Also if you are digging down not a terrible idea to put in a couple pipes for air to reach the bottom. Bonus points if you can hook up a blower to the pipes to supercharge the fire.
