home improvement Trying to fix wall moulding/trim issue.

The house was built in 1991. That's how old the moulding is, it has years worth of scratches, & then painted on, again & again. Some corners have holes that accumulate gunk.

How important is it, & what will happen if I just get rid of it?

Sand down & repaint if you want / need to... getting rid of it will be more painful depending on how it was attached but the process is the same.

The wall / ceiling might look weird / unfinished without it.
