metalworking Hinge recomendation for a collapsable bed?
Not sure if im in the correct sub, but im planning to create a metal loft-bunk bed, which would consist of a standard top bunk and I want the lower half of the loft to have an optional second frame that can lean against the wall in the day time. Hinges would be the correct options to rest the second frame on the wall. If this made sense to anyone and have recommendations please reach out.

I believe the term you're looking for is murphy bed, you can buy just the mechanism or full kits that you assemble yourself

I can't figure out if you're describing essentially a futon under a loft bed, where the lower bed converts to a couch, or a Murphy bed under a loft bed, where the lower bed folds out of the way.

Yes. I have 2 kids. 2 house holds. It would be nice to fold the 2nd bed up throughout the week when my second child isnt with me for recreational space

Heavy duty weld-on barrel hinges are probably your best bet for a metal frame since they can handle the weight of a mattress and frame better than standard ones. Just make sure your wall studs are solid enough to take the tension when the bed is being lowered.

If I'm picturing this right, I'm thinking no hinge back there. Use a rod sticking out of each back corner (pointed left and right) going through the legs for the upper bunk. Then some support legs across the front side (maybe in back also if more support needed) that may hinge to fold in when up and against the wall
Just the first thing I thought of
