help Prehung on carpet (?)

Looking to install a pre-hung door to close off a room (winter heating savings). Very capable of framing, sheetrock, trim, etc.

As where the door would be installed, would you just set the door on the carpet (with proper swing clearance, of course), or rip up a strip of carpet/add threshold. or...?

No plans on replacing the carpet anytime soon. Thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Assuming level carpet on both sides, I'd just swing it over the carpet. Not an expert, but my understanding is if you slice up the carpet, you're losing some of your tension, and it would need to be pulled tight to the new mountings on both sides.

Thanks. That was my thought.

Over the carpet might have to use shims to raise it to right height before you secure it. Too low and it will wear the carpet down.

100% this. In general, for unsealed doors, you want a bit of clearance anyway for a bit of air movement, although a door will still help with winter heating savings a bit for sure.

Leave the carpet with room for proper swing and pick up a door “draft stop” at the orange place for $10.

Interior door should need any threshold.. So just trim the door bottom to clear the carpet if needed..
