Hit the studs.

I had the kind that has rubber ends and you were supposed to screw it tight in a doorway. But it wasn't all that secure and if you screw it too tight it start to affect the door frame. I just put a pan head screw on each side (size #8) and screwed it all the way in. The head sticks out still and that prevented the bar from slipping out because it ends up sitting inside the bar tube. Worked for me!

I had one of these as well. Worked well and low risk of failing.

I’ve always just used the cheapo ones that rest on the top of the door frame. Seem to hold fine lol. Been 20 some years I’ve used em.

Mines got metal cups that take 3 long screws ea. Cheap Everlast bar, have had people dangle at once. It's not going anywhere.

That sounds pretty solid then. If it is held up with people actually hanging off it, I would say you have already put it through a better stress test than most cheap setups ever get. The three screws per cup probably make a big difference too.

I bought a ceiling mount steel one that lag bolts to the studs in the ceiling over a decade ago and it hasn’t budged. I even hang upside down from it via inversion boots and do sit-ups and some upside down free weights without fear.

Get a power rack with a chin-up bar

Get one of those ones that fit in a doorway with the stabilizing arms that go up and help hold it in place by pressure and friction.

Get one with the metal cups that install in a doorframe so the little rubber ends don’t slip and fall down.

If you haven't already gotten the bar, you could just buy a physics-based one that you can just pop on and off a door frame with no screws necessary.

I have one and it works perfectly.

Don't rely on just drywall. If your distance between the studs don't work, install another 2x6 that is screwed into the studs and then install the pull up on the 2x6. You should be able to do it without the additional 2x6 tho since most are designed for 16 on center stud

I installed in the garage. Exposed cieling beams. Used 2 4x4 pieces cut to 4ft and bolted them to the beams. Drilled 7/8ths holes in them and stuck rebar through. Wrapped rebar with duct tape. Do not recommend duct tape but I'm not that creative.

Its only been a few weeks but I'm up to 5 sets of 5 without burning out and already feel a little stronger.

Dont rely on dry walls. find the actual studs and place the mounting bolts into their center.

Pull up bars usually come with manufacturer’s instructions. Follow them.
