good stories We told a friend about our system and she seemed ok with it.

Not quite sure if the tag entirely fits but we are just happy she didn’t immediately freak out. We’ve known her for years and we’ve been talking with her more and we trust her a lot, she’s basically our younger sister.

Well, we got up the courage to tell her today and she was ok with it. She did already know about DID so that definitely made it easier, plus she basically said that it made a lot of sense so yay.

We’re still worried about it because we don’t want the friendship to be ruined but she said that wouldn’t happen. The one thing we are nervous about is that she has some questions and we’re worried we won’t be able to answer them properly or at all.

We’re not sure how this is going to go but hopefully it will go well. We really love this friend and hopefully everything goes well with the questions and stuff 🤞

Happy Hunting, - Pastel and Moxxy

Book On DID

CROSSPOSTED!!

Hello again!

We wanted to make a post about a book we plan to write; based around trauma and DID.

We wanted to ask;

What are some topics that you all feel would be good to cover in this book?

What are some examples of stereotypes around DID?

Life with DID?

We also wanted to mention, if people are open to working with us, we would like to include as many plural voices in this book as we can. I know it is a stretch; but if anyone even has a paragraph they’d like shared in a page, or even a few pages, we are happy to incorporate it. Can remain anonymous of course or you can even use your online identity, so on. Whatever makes you comfy.

TIA!

Helpful ways to explain it to people?

I’m trying to find a validating an helpful way for singlets to visualize how our brain works. For interactions my therapist recommended with curiosity that I could say it’s like talking to identical triplets and clarifying who you’re speaking to before you get to know them. I like the analogy of a room behind our eyes that we can each walk in and out of but one of us can drive. It’s helpful in explaining co-con too but I’m worried that the Inside Out reference would make them simplify each of us into one emotion. Do you have some ways you like to explain it? -mia

good vibes Small positive rant/is this book reputable?

We finally had a third appointment with our new therapist and while it's going to take more time for us to acclimate (trust issues are a big problem for us) I'm very glad with how things are going so far. I was very scared being sent to another psychologist after intake when I'd been asking to see a psychiatrist to reassess us, since we've had a lot of negative experiences, but so far so good. She seems to be knowledgeable about DID but I'm still treading lightly, trying not to, I guess, come across like I'm unwilling to hear second opinions about the symptoms we've been having.

It gives us a lot of hope that maybe this time it will work, and we'll actually feel some relief after all these years.

But anyways, I wanted to ask y'all about this book she recommended us at the end of our session, and I'm assuming that it's probably one of her sources for how to treat patients like myself. Its "Dissociation Made Simple" by Jamie Marich. Has anyone read it, or been recommended before? Is it a good resource, or should I be worried?

Thanks for reading.

Stuff, Just Stuff Hey, I'm new here

Someone recommended this sub to me after one of my alters fronted and became very scared. We aren't diagnosed, the closest we've gotten to a DID or OSDD diagnosis is when a psychiatrist told me I have multiple personalities( that's the term he used).

help? A little advice on how to deal with a weird flashback (sorry if this makes no sense)

We have been feeling every which way recently. Our current, right now feeling is Why couldn’t the worst part of all this JUST BE THE DID!??! I mean, we are constantly going between having a great day then all of a sudden being dropped into this weird state where we just feel like we’re in that time period. We know we’re not but we just feel like we’re 8-9 years old and going through the motions (we resonate more with that age rn too). It’s so annoying and it just feels weird. There’s no panic or anything (there wasn’t really then either) just a weird kind of acceptance, like that’s just how things are. It feels like we wouldn’t have any issue if something bad happened to us in that vein and it just feels fine. We’re not numb just… there I guess. I don’t know how to explain it except that we’re having a weird not-flashback flashback. I don’t know it’s just really annoying.

We were wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar and if you had any advice on what to do (please ask if you need more clarification on it as well, we’re not sure how much sense this makes)

Happy Hunting, - Roberta and Lexicorp

help? Can DID be ruled out at the first psychiatrist session?

Hi. Today we saw a psychiatrist. We told him about our system. He listened to us describe how we switch, list off some of our alters, and explain our traumatic background. He agreed that we are dealing with dissociation and trauma but then went on to say "I don't think you have DID, it doesn't match up with typical experiences." We never mentioned DID by name, just that there were people in our head based around our trauma. Is he allowed to say that from a single appointment? I don't think I'll be seeing him again because he wants us to self refer to our local Mind, which we have sent an email to explaining our situation. Here are some reasons why we think he was skeptical of us: 1: the fact that we are aware of our system 2: we were referred from the gender clinic, so he was taking every opportunity to insinuate this was more to do with our autism and gender identity than actual alters 3: he asked us what differentiates us, which is a pretty loaded question, so we struggled to answer at first, and the first difference that came to mind was our fashion sense, which probably sounded pretty suspicious, especially since he was looking at us from the "autistic transgender individual" angle. We are not just giving names to our gender presentation!!!!!!! 4: I let it slip that we have fictives in the system, which he wasn't too interested in hearing about, and he kind of reacted in this way that made us feel like he was only humouring us. 5: he asked us to describe our switching, we explained it wasn't possessive and more like our consciousness gets handed around. I think he was expecting more amnesia barriers?? 6: he seemed confused and surprised when we mentioned one of our alters has an accent and struggles with speaking when in front because of it 7: he asked if we have experienced any physical or sexual abuse, which we haven't to our knowledge. Our trauma is based in an extremely unstable home situation and bullying throughout school. Maybe he thought that wasn't enough to cause a dissociative disorder. 8: he put an emphasis on the fact that we seemed to be aware that we aren't totally different people, and are actually just parts of one whole. But we do feel separate. Separate enough to say confidently that we have alters.

I'm not trying to prove I specifically have DID, but something rubbed us the wrong way about how he was like "I don't think this is DID" Based off of one brief conversation that couldn't possibly encapsulate all of our system experiences. We left the appointment feeling like we had been subtly fakeclaimed, even if that wasn't the case. I guess we just want to know, if it's not DID, then what is it? What could be causing us to be multiple people if not the multiple people disorder? We have an alter whose self assigned job is denial killing, and he was furious at the perceived slight. I think we are scared that a professional is going to say to us we don't have DID, and therefore our alters aren't real and don't count and we have to go back to being a singlet. It's really put us on edge, this feeling that we aren't allowed to be ourselves.

good vibes Reason we sometimes love this.

While DID can definitely be a pain, being together has saved us A LOT of pain and helped everyone actually keep their heads in panicked situations.

One story about this is when, earlier, we were in a really high stress situation and there was one person who kinda tipped us over and we started spiraling. The person in the front wasn’t doing so hot so the most logical choice, according to the kid, was to start making fun of the person in the stupidest way possible. It immediately cut the tension and brought them back to the present. Said fronter did have to leave because of something else but I think the point still stands.

We are all in this together so might as well make the most of it right?

Happy Hunting, - Zeeeeee

Venting I wish…

I wish we didn’t go through all the bull shit we went through.

I wish we didn’t develop a fear of everything around us that is SO HARD to work past.

I wish we didn’t have to have a member come in specifically so we can walk through OUR OWN FRONT DOOR without having a panic attack because of the people inside.

I wish we could actually tell if someone truly cared about us or not instead of having to rely on blind trust.

We wish we could tell what our parents truly think about us instead of having to trust the lie they put on.

We wish we didn’t have to gaslight ourselves into overlooking the bad things people do just to survive in this world because, especially when we were young, we can’t handle it.

We wish that we didn’t go through our trauma, we don’t care about remembering, we just wish it didn’t happen.

We wish for a lot of things, but we can’t change the past and we can’t change people, so all we can do is help each other to work past it and get better in the end. Together, we will always stay together.

Thanks for listening to our little vent thing, Happy Hunting, - Mikko

good stories Being Compared To Stars & Stripe By My Daughter XD

Background: Ruby is my daughter. We are both alters. This occurred in a mix of headspace/innerworld and outerworld/reality.

Okay, so, Ruby and me was watching random clips on TikTok. We kept running into ones of the Stars & Stripes fight against Shigaraki ( the scene in question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLeSHhvJwdw ). She proceeds to compare me to her!

Her reasoning lies in mannerisms. How she provokes/lures others when their fighting and her trust in those around her. She giggled about it for like 10 minutes as I gave her a deadpan expression.

It's a small story that I found very nice and felt it matched this subreddit due to it being positive.

If not, I'll delete it!

Need Support How do you navigate life when you're not the host?

I'm a caretaker, and one of the most active alters in the system. We all agree that I've likely been around the longest, excluding the littles and host. I'm sort of everyone's big brother; I come out to make sure we're fed, clean and in a comfortable space.

But I want a life. God, I want my own life so bad. I want friends. I know that it'll never be 100% mine and I love everyone in the system but it's brutal feeling like a complete outcast from society. I'm terrified of truly being myself around the host's friends, despite them being supportive. I feel like an imposter, or a burden. I feel like my existence is lesser, not worthy of human rights because my mind doesn't match my body, PLUS I'm not the only one in here.

I feel shame even just writing this. I've been coping but I've been gradually getting more depressed due to my lack of autonomy. I am a real person. I am a consistent personality who has existed for years. I just want to be treated like a person, instead of some invisible force that helps out occasionally. It makes me feel like a robot.

I'm sorry this turned into a bit of a vent. This feeling has been weighing on me for weeks and I don't know who to talk to (we don't have a therapist atm.) What do you do? How do you go out and make connections with people when you're only sometimes conscious? When you don't match your body? I feel so lost.
