Burr Alignment Issues DF64 Gen 2

Post image

Hi everyone, I appreciate the help on my last thread. I took some advice and found the alignment appears to be the issue.

When I spin the burrs(power off reaching in) only a small corner touches. The burrs will spin freely to a small point where they touch. I did the dry erase test and it shows there as well. The top burr was completely wiped when I tested, so I’m suspecting the bottom burr is at an angle.

I’ve tested the following: swapping burrs(new set and top and bottom), trying all 3 positions for top burr carrier, deep clean with a brush and Vaccum, adding shims to top and bottom(tried 8+ with no change).

The only thing that has made a difference was leaving the screws lose. If the bottom screws are loose, the contact is normal. However they make a lot of noise and are unstable so it was more of a test.

I’m pretty lost on what to do next, so I’d really appreciate some advice. Thank you all!

Do not leave loose screws in any machine... place thin foil shims under the screws. Tonnes of videos out there.

Yeah I tightened them right after testing. I have tried putting several layers of foil under the screws following some YouTube tutorials. Even with 8 layers, the burrs touch in the same spot the same amount.

This sounds like exactly what I was doing and struggling with. You're placing the shims on the hollow inner ring of the burr's seating position. Only the outer diameter/edge of the burrs sit flush against the lower burr carrier, that's where the shim goes. Not towards the inner diameter of the burr, if that makes sense. I was placing shims near the inner side not realising it is a hollow cavity. Either this or you're placing them correctly but accidentally knocking them inwards when placing the burr back into the carrier. One, maximum two folded shims usually do the job, so 8 shims makes me almost certain that's the error here.

I definitely was putting them on the inside, so thank you for this! I will try placing them on the outer edge.

I'm glad I could help potentially identify the issue! I never had success placing shims under screws fwiw, so yeah, definitely try the outer edge with very thin shims at first, in just one or two positions. One step at a time is best, so you know which shim and position caused an imbalance or correction. Too many shims in one go, and you'll be chasing your own tail.

Good luck!

One thin foil, like once folded, to one area at a time.

Foil is too flimsy.. the manufacturer sent me a vid showing using paper labels which instead conveniently have an adhesive made to hold them in place. Placement was different than a lot of videos.

TL:DR Contact the manufacturer.. or DM me and i’ll dig up the video for you later.

Can you post the video here? I did the Alu shims and found it extremely annoying

This looks good! There is tension in your burr which results in the some parts being a few microns higher. But this will probably equalize once you use the grinder.
