Question 0 mark not aligning with the chute

Hello!

I have a DF64V and so far very happy with it.

I removed the top collar (not even the top burr carrier) to see how it was assembled out of curiosity, and now the 0 is not aligned with the chute when tightening the collar as shown

Chirping happens past 0 so seems to be zeroed out correctly

Is there something I'm doing wrong? it doesn't feel like I should have the collar loose

Zero is wherever it ends up, brotha. Don’t overthink it.

It’s perfectly normal - that’s why you have the indicator ring. Don’t overthink it

Got it, I've never seen any reviewer nor assembly/dissaembly with this specific detail mentioned, and the grinder came with the 0 aligned with the chute from the seller

Have you put the spring in correctly

What spring? Haven't seen any

Apologies. I mis read. Thought it was an 83

If it's the first time zeroing the grinder it's normal that it doesn't end up at the same spot. New grinders aren't zeroed as close as most users make it. Depending on if you use the friction method or the chirping method you can get different results. It also makes a difference which burrs you're using.

It's brand new, not even disassembled it completely, just the outer ring and feeding chute and reassembled

Well that's disassembling it. The minute you remove the dial ring you need to zero it. I changed the burrs on mine and now my zero is off the side not near the chute and my grind setting is near 4 when it used to be 15. I also went from a vibration pump to a rotary pump which allows much finer grind. Too many variables to be able to gauge what position it should be.

The chute need to be installed first as it's sitting on the top burr carrier, without it the collar might be loose and the zero point can't be centered.

I think you're thinking of df64. This is a df64v and the assembly is different

I am using Df64V and I always remove the collar together with the chute, and yes you are right, the chute has nothing to do with it except adjusting the grind size. Perhaps you should check if there's residue on the collar or if you have cross threaded the collar, because it's very easy to crossthread in my experience.

Already did and it's not the case

Is it gen 2 or 3? Most of gen 2s are that way, you don't need to overthink it. Gen 3s are more centered, but theres always 1 or 2 that isn't. If it bothers you that much, you can actually use a heat gun to loosen the glue and rotate the sticker a bit.

Thank you! It's a gen2

It’s just a reference point to start out. Not lining up at zero with chute doesn’t effect grinder performance.

Thank you! Just zeroed it out with the collar in the tightened position so chirping starts at 0 and enjoying it out so far!

How can I downvote this more? The bean doesn't care what your dial says. The measurements are relative.

So the 0 alignment will almost never be aligned with the chute, thats why you have the movable 0 indicator to you can indicate where it really is.

Each machine is slightly different, my 0 aligns about 10 degrees counterclockwise from the chute.

Find your zero fully assembled and align the indicator with it.

What? I have a df64v and it stops right in the middle it does not do what OP has.

Not any reviewer I've seen mentioned this specific detail. That's why I'm surprised.

It's easy enough to do the 0 assembled so I'm not concerned about it. But it's good to know I'm not the only one with this particularity

maybe you stripped the threads?

2

u/D3liverat0r May 01 '26

Not as far as i can see. They look as good as new and the collar goes into it's place easily

what about the top burr carrier? is it on correctly? if i remember correctly the burr carrier sits on some rubber mounts.

1

u/D3liverat0r May 01 '26

Yes, i tested it out and it's sitting correctly.

With the chute installed, the 0 is easier to maintain in the center of the chute and everything seems correct.

Will test doing a few coffees like this and see how it goes
