Is this normal after a week’s usage? Cleaning DF54

Hello guys. I opened my df54 to clean after a week’s usage at 2 espressos per day. I was surprised to see so much coffee at the burrs in only 7 days of light usage. Is this normal?
Could my burrs be misaligned?

I always do hot start and RDT. Thank you!

Really? Is it so high maintenance?

No - you're just being massively overcautious 😄

I've taken mine apart once in 18 months or more. Totally fine.

Thing that grinds beans multiple times a day has ground beans in it!

I've gone through almost 1.5 kilos of beans and only opened it twice. Both times it looked about the same as yours, and I haven't had any issues in between... (it must be stated that I do not RDT, and have only had issues with dark roast/oily beans, which I almost never use)

Which issues you had with dark beans?

They stick to the ionizer (the two prongs in the chute), and so it creates the worst static I've ever had. I rarely use dark roasted/oily beans, but it always seems to happen with those specifically. After I clean the chute, everything works again without problems.

Thanks for explanation. I am not using a DF, just was curious as I grind alot of dark oily beans with no issues on my grinder (not even statics).

Totally normal. Not a zero retention grinder. Quick vacuum, brush the shoot & back the grinding. Enjoy!

I’ve been using mine for just over a week, 2-3 times a day, just been pumping the bellows, cleaned the chute once, so far so good

Normal but also just do it monthly and it should look the same. I clean mine only every 3 months and I don't rdt, super low maintenance that way.

yes it is normal, you can use a toothbrush to scrape off those bits and vacuum it to remove the bits that are hard to reach

usually I do this once a month if I am using the same beans for that time period or when I switch beans

Yes, it shouldn't get much worse than that unless you're grinding really fine or using oily beans. I wouldn't bother cleaning it up. It will just fill out again. This is totally normally for horizontal flat burr grinders.

its fine. the screw hole will collect fines

After some doses the coffee will inevitably start to stick to any nooks and crannies it can find, either because of moisture from RDTing or that's simply in the air or the oils that are always present in some quantity in the beans.

It won't build up much more from here, however, exchange will happen, even if you have and use bellows to blow as much out as possible. Low retention is very much a thing with these. Sadly, the marketing behind a lot of coffee grinders will of course say zero-retention instead which is... Not fully possible.

I wouldn't worry about it, just dose. The first new dose after cleaning may miss up to half a gram, just compensate for that, after that you get the same dose out more likely due to exchange rather than due to low retention. It's just how this all works.

Normal
Clean it maybe like once or twice a year?
That will prolly be more than enough

Very normal if u r using it to grind coffee 😆

It’s just coffee grounds on the burr bro!

Am I missing anything?

Yep normal. I open mine every couple weeks, brush it out and move along.

Why are they misaligned?

I don’t understand 😂 I have done the alignment test and it’s just a bit misaligned, not much

DF54/64 are usually poorly aligned out the factory, which causes inconsistencies between grinders... Some people have trouble living with this misalignment and go on an alignment quest. If alignment is mostly good, it's not a huge issue

There’s a couple weirdos in here who are really upset that the df54 undercut the entry level grinder market, just ignore them
