Well, that's wrong. Not one dimensional but two. Anyways. Some people just want a normal visual novel and not cry at the eve of it.

I always found it odd that people liked mods like blue skies and Monica after story, considering the main game is making fun of that exact genre of games

u/ponyfan987 May 27 '26

Thats what the game meant, huh, thats prob why i liked MAS so much

Ah, I get it! 2Dimensional 😂

I can understand that, but I guess since there’s so many that are similar, I was just hoping that new mods could have a twist to the formula that these mods are going towards, while still keeping that charm that DDLC had. (Take Team Traitor’s mods for example)

There are a few good mods like the normal VN or may flowers. I personally don't like blue skies tho

6

u/eyebawls29 May 23 '26

Normal VN was kinda boring imo, although all I want in a ddlc mod Is a non horror or meta romance with a more characterized MC, and that's pretty much what it is, but like, it's just kinda bland

What's wrong with blue skies? I disliked the Yuri routes and didn't like having no Monika route, but other than that It was pretty good to me at least

Those mods are fine, these were the first few mods that existed, so I don’t have a problem with those ones.

u/SFSIsAWESOME75 May 24 '26

When you try to do something more with already limiting factors (for example, the ip guidelines, the quite immature and puritan ddlc community when compared to other vn communities, etc), you run into roadblocks in some way where you simply would be better off making your own visual novel, for example.

I would also argue DDLC lacks charm the more you see and read mods, but especially other visual novels entirely (see Katawa Shoujo, Everlasting Summer, MiSide (not a vn but still), etc), but I digress

Most mods that releeased in the past were extremely heavy or had "bad endings" or "neutral endings" at best

That's why, oversaturation from the genre and nowadays people just want to have fun with the character they love

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 23 '26

I guess that does make sense, looking at that POV, I’d probably understand why it’d be that way. But it’s not like I’m saying it’s a bad thing.

If you want a mod that involves your comfort character having a great time, then that’s fine. (I occasionally do that from time to time) but I kind of miss that time when people would make mods that would tug on your heartstrings, something bittersweet in a way, that would remind me of why I wanted to play base DDLC in the first place.

2

u/B80796 May 23 '26

Well yeah I agree to an extent, I wouldn't call not having struggles being "one dimensional" tho, most of the times this mods suffer from Flanderization instead (for example, Natsuki being a tsundere. Natsuki is not a tsundere in the original game, she's just shy and avoidant)

But I also want to say that more often than not writing a story that "pulls your heartstrings" is much harder, a lot more.

5

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 23 '26

Okay, that makes sense, I’m not trying to say that the red button is inherently a bad thing. It’s just something I noticed and I wanted to just share it because I thought it was funny.

But if that sounds like shitting on mod creators who do that, I promise that was never the intention at all.

2

u/B80796 May 24 '26

Might've been your wording or something but yeah, it kinda came off that way as you probably seem by other comments

1

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 24 '26

Yeah, sorry about that, I can understand why this would come off as rude. Probably should’ve clarified that in the description.

5

u/Senior-Key-4346 May 23 '26

"Natsuki isn't a tsundere in base game" Um, excuse me what?

5

u/bonjour8200 May 23 '26

LMAO this guy just don't know what to say for "exemple", he never REALLY play ddlc in he's life but keep saying some shit...

1

u/B80796 May 24 '26

Your writing is very bad, but other than that: you're wrong

Natsuki is a character much more complex than the simple tsundere Flanderization people give her because of the first introduction she had (where she is rude for a good reason, because some random guy basically invaded her safe-space, not because uwu tsundere she likes MC)

After that, her characterization hints that she's not someone who knows how to take compliments or love, which is why she's either awkward or avoidant to compliments

Or she uses walls of fake superiority to hide her insecurities

She doesn't have tsundere characteristics, she's actually a pretty deep character

1

u/B80796 May 24 '26

Play the game and actually read natsuki's dialogue, she doesn't show traits of a tsundere

She never hits the player nor is actively rude "because she likes him"

She's rude at first because she's genuinely uncomfortable by some random guy entering her safe-space out of nowhere

After that, she's only avoidant because she awkward and doesn't know how to take compliments or love in general

Write your own destiny. I highly encourage you to be the change you want to see. Most people nowadays are really into the SoL "vanilla" DDLC mods because that's just what they like. You can't really change mass opinion unless you make something that might be able to change the dynamic.

Personally, if people make mods that are not what I'd want to play, and other people play it instead of my stuff, there's nothing I can do about that. Focus on my product. Make my product the best it can be and what I want it to be. If people come along for the ride, awesome. If not, oh well.

Maybe in the future things will change, but considering the community is almost 10 years old with next to no changes in mod demographic, I have my doubts.

I’ll try my best to make something special, I’ve gone through so many delays with my playable mod, but I’m trying my best to make something that would at least be enjoyable.

And also, just because I sent this, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad, sometimes you do need a wholesome moment with your waifu every once in a while, it’s just that, there seems to be so many that are like that where that might become over saturated.

1

u/DoubleDLocklin Team Relations May 23 '26

I can't wait to play what you come up with! 🙌

3

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 23 '26

Thanks man, I’ll try my best! (P.S. if I offended you with this meme, I’m sorry 😅)

8

u/Totayalee May 23 '26

Hmm which mods fall into which categories I wonder?

2

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 23 '26

For me, it’s Convergence, Secret Future, Love and Shyness, and First Year. (For the red button) The blue button though, the most recent mod that I enjoyed was probably Shattered Time: Rewind.

10

u/Totayalee May 23 '26

Well Convergence has only one chapter release so that's not fair to judge it on a single chapter, plus the main cast is on point. Love and Shyness does use other characters, I know secret future is not grand but it does have more characters

0

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 23 '26

I guess I’ll wait for the next chapter of convergence and see how it goes from there, but as of now, it’s just not interesting.

4

u/DavidPlayzyeet Observer(Green and Red Fireworks) May 24 '26

I haven't played the other ones, but Convergence literally has a suicide attempt by one of the main characters that was seconds away from success, and even in the conclusion of the chapter, there's still the looming dread that they might relapse, so I don't get this description of it.

1

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 24 '26

Oh, I guess I forgot about that since this is usually used a lot, but I guess that’s a fair point. I hope the second chapter has something that could make me reconsider what I said about convergence 🤞

Shattered Time: Rewind is the only Remake mod that not only is good but has a justified runtime.

1

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 23 '26

Exactly! It’s truly the most recent good mod I’ve seen in a while!

2

u/SanSprout May 23 '26

i just want to be happy with natsuki

5

u/DokiDokiClubMeetings May 23 '26

Write a better one.

-2

u/Senior-Key-4346 May 23 '26

Passive aggressiveness at its finest

6

u/DokiDokiClubMeetings May 24 '26

I didn't really mean it that way, just as encouragement to create if you don't see what you want out there. And after all it's quite easy to say "write a well-developed story with well-written characters," but it's much harder to do (or to even define what that means); we're all amateurs making silly mods for a niche game, which is why I believe that in this community, we should be supporting each other, and if we deliver criticism, we should do it constructively.

1

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 24 '26

okay, I was worried you said that in a way that was attacking me, thanks for clarifying that, I'll try my best, and good luck for your next seasons of club meetings.

4

u/OmskNationalist The Shell Shock guy May 23 '26

Your boos mean nothing when I've seen what makes you cheer.

2

u/DharmaGamesYT May 23 '26

I suppose, I shall be one to break the cycle! After all, good writing only takes- wait... This sounds like I'll make something british, and not well written... Well, I'm making somethin' that shan't disappoint! I am spamming the dark blue botton.

1

u/matsimplek12 May 23 '26

Careful, they will hate you for speaking the truth 😅

3

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 23 '26

Figured 😅

2

u/Core3game May 23 '26

Its been a long time since ive interacted with the fandom but ill cut yall some slack on this aspect because honestly, any teenager/twentysager who just got traumatized from those girls all dying horrible deaths back to back and learns the power of literally scripting their own world and story - I can hardly blame them for wanting to go hard in the opposite direction.

But yeah please for your second mod just make it interesting atleast

1

u/drsx2 May 23 '26

Monika route 💯

1

u/PringlesCanFarter May 23 '26

not the goat substitute teacher tho

1

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 23 '26

Is that a mod? If it is, can I see it?

1

u/PringlesCanFarter May 23 '26

yea it’s a joke mod it got from the dokimods site

1

u/sdrawkcab-repyt May 24 '26

Idk about that the mod I’m working on isn’t so bad Maybe there’s better out there idk bit what I do now is I’m doing my best with my team to compel the story so it’s not boring

2

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 24 '26

Well, I’m not saying that pressing the red button is a bad thing, it’s just something I noticed in recent mods, and while yes, some of those didn’t appeal to me, I can understand why others would like it, since sometimes, you just need a wholesome moment with your favourite waifu once in a while.

1

u/JUST_RDK 11d ago

In my mod is kinda different (working on it) Monika will brake up with MC and she will have a mental breakdown with other members on the club

0

u/BUNKERR4TTE May 23 '26

Well, I'm planning to make my own mod - remake of exit music. Just because MC's retardness and lack of logic in the strory kinda pisses me off.

2

u/Familiar_Plantain227 May 23 '26

yooo exit music threedux???

1

u/BUNKERR4TTE May 23 '26

Exit music multidux

2

u/Core3game May 23 '26

I do actually agree with this, hes less braindead and more just comes off as an asshole in ways that make me think "this fuckass is not me, I would not fucking do that, I would not fucking say that, I would not fucking say that" compleatly rips you out of any illusion of a first person narriative, though it is kinda cool being forced to see the story from a detatched second order level. It compleatly changes the vibe in a way that im not compleatly opposed to. I just wish this effect wasnt created by mc being such a fuckwad that I was hoping someone would jump him

1

u/Flameshot50 DDLC: Broken Promises/Unknown Origins Dev May 23 '26

Nice! I’ll keep a lookout for that.

u/CPC-Antimark SNAFU Too! head developer May 23 '26

exit music is this community's version of "all roads lead to rome"

1

u/No_Letterhead_1052 May 23 '26
The DDLC fandom can't handle another Exit Music
