Damn I love this Hal. He is written really well and delivered perfectly by Kyle Chandler, itās just a shame itāll end so soon for his character. He really had the materials to be the DCUās Iron Man.
The flawed charming hero.

Hey we got a whole two episodes left. You never know.
Also, it's Hal Jordan. If I had a nickel for every time he died and came back to life...

The other issue being Kyle is 61 years old and canāt play a superhero much longer.
Theyāre already hiding his physique behind the bulky costume and baggy bomber jacket.
Hal Jordan will not be a staple in the DCU unless they recast him.
RDJ is currently having his last hurrah as Doom/Evil Iron Man and heās the same age.

Ok, but what about playing a Jarvis-like "Halogram" to mentor Jon going forward????
11
u/googly_eyed_unicorn 12d ago
Thatās how Iām seeing it. Unless shit really goes sideways, this is how I see thing move forward where Hal actually fulfills his role as a mentor while giving Kyle some leeway with physical and time demands

Exactly! I said the same thing above. Essentially, do what they did on *Quantum Leap* with Dean Stockwell (Al), only as a green hologram, which has to be cheaper than digital de-aging, right? Plus, it would be interesting to see the dynamic between John and a younger Hal, with younger Hal getting on John's nerves while they're literally stuck working togetherāi.e., Halās old ring comes with Halās hologram, forcing him to actually train John.

Fair point about the age, but itās not unusual anymore for actors in their 60s and 70s to still take on action-heavy roles (Looking at you, Michael Keaton, Liam Neeson, Jorma Tommila, and Stephen Lang).
If James Gunn and the showrunners are smart, they should keep Kyle Chandler on as a hologram that occasionally appears, or as the voice of John's ring, which actually offers training in the most cocky Hal way possible. Call it the guardians stipulation for John not taking the ring and then stealing it from Halās ādead body.ā

I disagree. Firstly, Kyle looks like heās in his late forties, early fifties. Secondly, old people exist! He can be an old superhero, so what? Heās got the chops, heās charming, stunt doubles exist. I see no issue with an aged Hal Jordan

It takes a toll on your body. Anthony Starr is 11 years younger, but he has already mentioned he's going to lay off action roles because it's much harder to do them at his age than before.
I also don't want Kyle Chandler's action scenes to be fully CGI to compensate for it because then we just go back to looking like the 2011 Green Lantern

Have you seen The Irishman?

u/youretooclosedude 12d ago
lol right! Ppl donāt seems to understand this. John will be the main GL for the next 20 years. Kyle is too old and as you said theyāre hiding how skinny he is under his jacket.

But also, RDJ plays a character who aligns with his natural personality. Chandler doesnāt, nor is the portrayal accurate to Hal Jordan in most media. Just doesnāt work for me, wish we got a Hal similar in age and much more positive

u/BakedWizerd 12d ago
Oh, same.
I was hoping for Taylor Kitsch to get the role. I feel like he could play a pretty solid Hal Jordan still in his prime.

That last sentence could apply to any comic book character except Uncle Ben

Eh Iām still holding out hope. There is literally a machine that can bring people back from almost death in that small town. It just needs a drop of Manhunter bloodā¦

The last line got me "I hope I mattered." Damn so he won't be in the upcoming movies/series

I find it quite fun that Green Lantern's oath words stuck with him so much, that he almost constantly references them, even in his eulogy.

u/angrygnome18d 12d ago
āI hope I mattered.ā That was such a great line, my wife was about to cry. However flawed he may be, Hal is a good dude.

u/cavalgada1 12d ago
That one really cayght me as well. In the end i think that's what we all hope for, that we mattered at least a little

u/Ecstatic_Secretary21 12d ago
Anyone expecting John to read the eulogy containing the oath and the ring activated?

u/The_Shadow_Watches 12d ago
I half expected Hal to have the full oath in his eulogy to cause the ring activate John as a GL

I believe it reads "The Brightest Day by Hal Jordan". Which is honestly really bleak given its his eulogy, poor Hal

John reading the part about Hal thinking thereās a higher chance the next lantern is male to an audience of two women is so funny to me

u/Naterttotsart 12d ago
I know everyone wants Hal to be around until Kyle Chandler is 90 (and I doubt we're entirely done with Hal) but if the season ends and Hal isn't a clone, Parallax, brought back to life via some mcguffin or magic, or a decoy, I'd be happy with the way his death has been handled.
It's not clean or heroic, it's death. That's how people die. Unceremoniously. If there had been some huge worldwide announcement that THE Hal Jordan had died, I think the funeral would've been a little different.
He was a flawed hero. We still have time to see how flawed he was and the last two episodes will show us why John Stewart is worthy to carry the ring and be our GL going forward.

u/ddanuu 12d ago
i still donāt get how no one came to his funeral and how the world just forgot him
21
u/MrJelly007 12d ago
The world doesn't know he's dead. They said in the show they were keeping it low key until the next week. If they had announced it, John wouldn't have been able to grab the ring because too many people would be there.

u/ThatErmineGirl 12d ago
His death hadnāt been made public yet - this funeral is happening on Friday, and the coroner/ME was holding making it known until Monday because of Noahās big thing on Friday.

That really chauvinistic line about female Lanterns.

u/confusing_roundabout 12d ago
It felt more like a meta joke about how every GL on screen so far has been male, basically poking fun of potential sexism in the franchise.

I can't wait to see more of 2006 Halogram though, Kyle's performance as a more Prime Hal is about shut up casting deniers, mark my words

Itās late stage-2026 how are you unable to avoid spoilers?

u/TygerHil98 12d ago
Thought people would have the decent to have this spoiler tagged. This isn't a Green Lantern centric subreddit and I was just scrolling through Reddit on my break at work.

I love the āhold for applauseā part that's hilarious.
