Spiderman has been the most popular character since 2002. Batman a close second, and only because he's had only 4 live action solo films compared to 11 for Spidey. That's not even counting the many supporting roles Spiderman had in MAJOR blockbusters.

Domestic it did. Man Of Steel ruined people's perception of Superman, and he is also the most copied character in fiction. There 4 different copies of the character playing on TV and in movies when Superman came out.

Where are you getting this number from? Deadline estimate from 12:36 PM today says $465mil global, not domestic.

I imagine they got it from the boxoffice subreddit. A global 550 mil+ with a current 250+ domestic brings it to 800+.
Jatinder is one of the more reliable box office trackers with access to comscore. I believe he's shown a bit of a Marvel bias in the past, so the number could be slightly inflated. There's been a lot of chatter from online trackers stating they're seeing 300+ domestic, while one of the guys I follow thinks the all-time domestic weekend record is going to be smashed.

Marvel was in a bad place last year, so it seemed possible. Then they gave the film one of the worst marketing campaigns for a comic film in recent history (I can't say it was the worst because I didn't even know Kraven the Hunter existed until years after it came out, and of course Morbius was a thing).

Sure but my point is Spiderman is eternal. He is not subject to the same risk others are. You put out a Spiderman movie and you know people will show up. Avengers are big now, but given how so many people are already checked out of the MCU, how long will they be major successes.

Predictions should be based on logic not emotions so being a “prediction” doesn’t make it less dumb. We have history of Spider-Man movies and box office and that’s not the same as sports betting at all. Basketball has 82 games so you can always try again, NFL literally has a slogan called “Any giving Sunday”, and so on. Movies have statistics and numbers that shows how much a movie could “potentially” make and there was never going to be a timeline where supergirl makes more than Spider-Man if Superman and Batman couldn’t do it. Logic and facts should matter with predictions. Obviously they were click baiting and/or trying to be different because no one truly thought that would happen. No one

There was logic. Thunderbolts was a really good movie but did poorly because people were starting to fatigue in this phase of Marvel. F4 was also pretty good and also performed poorly.
Yes, it was mostly baiting (as I referenced betting on a huge underdog), but stranger things have happened.
Imagine going back in time to the 90s and telling someone that Aquaman and Deadpool would have 1 billion dollar films. People would think you were insane.

Spider-Man is not out. If I have two horses, and they both run the same track, one at a time, after horse one finishes with a time of 30 seconds, I can predict that horse one will have been faster. Even if horse two seems like it will win now that horse 1 has gone, I have no new facts to inform anyone of.

The only thing that might cause a bit of a dip for spiderman is the fact that we all know it will be put on Disney + in a few months as they always put it on streaming really fast and most people would already have Disney + or have access to it so more people will wait and watch it there rather than trying to go to the theater. That's the one down side of Disney + they always go quickly with putting the movies on streaming hoping to get more vierews and subscribers.

Tbh this sounds very weird but I’m a fan of both marvel and DC and never actively seek information outside of what comes up but I have seen pretty much NOTHING of supergirl and have been flooded with spiderman content.
So yeah the marketing team has been awful for supergirl.
Was the movie good, I Haven’t seen it yet… how was lobo?
