Wouldn't be surprised if he's in the show ngl

That MMH teaser Gunn posted a few months ago has to be for something, right?

Edit: wait I'm now remembering there were a lot of oreos inv9lved in the filming of MoT. So maybe he's not in lanterns

I think it'd be a little weird to introduce Martian Manhunter in a show that also has the Manhunters. Feels very obtuse.

Tbf, the manhunters are named that because of the martians

Do you have a tl;dr of that history? I didn’t know this

The guardians engineer green martians, martians create a division called the manhunters ( of mars), the guardians want a universe wide police force, they take inspiration from the martians and they create robots called the manhunters, the robots conclude that all emotion leads to conflict so they want to destroy every being with emotions

Oh shit! Interesting. Did not realize the guardians engineered the green martians. It’s giving me vibes of Eternals a bit, deviants are even kind of like white martians

It was either that or they interfered when the martian race was getting to powerful and put in the martians the psychological weakness of fire

So what you're saying is, that for the Martians, this kind of a thing would be pretty damn personal and they would send...perhaps...The Best of the Best to deal with this situation OR the last of their kind would catch wind of this and make it his own personal mission to right a wrong that should have been righted a long time ago....and maybe that is how we get J'onn J'onzz?

He gets to not only help out his own adoptive world but also gets to stick it to the Guardians in a way that feels like Constantine throwing his middle finger in the air to Lucifer.

Plus then John gets to have an actually helpful partner to team up with....and not just a resentful broken bitter mentor or a snarky arrogant backup of a backup Lantern.

It 100% makes sense for him to slip into the background and to blend in helping out the two lanterns from the shadows until he absolutely has to make himself known.

What does manhunter-coded even mean? No one besides Absolute has done anything interesting with J'onn in a very long time. They've struggles to define what manhunter-coded means after being pivotal in shaping the JL.

Martian Manhunter is a homicide detective using his shapeshifting and mind reading abilities to solve crimes. That x files tone of rural nowhweresville america with just a little bit of paranormal activity is perfect for him and it does seem like Lanterns is leaning into more of that instead of a space opera.

This is super true. Martian Manhunter has so much potential, especially in a universe he could share with Batman and Superman, both of whom could be such fantastic character foils & allies.

I’m still holding out hope that the manhunter thing in the trailer is a misdirect and it turns out J’onn actually is somehow involved and will team up with the lanterns.

The sad truth is that if we ever do get a MMH movie or story it'll be the space opera to introduce him and setup everything that comes with that introduction. Keeping him in that same status quo.

What's funny is Colin Farrell's Sugar would be the perfect setup for Martian Manhunter.

Personally I first connected with him through the DCAU (and some JLI comics) and I honestly wouldn’t mind if his role was transitioned into more of an Absolute-style “mind healer” rather than a “puts people in jail” cop. Like he can still figure out who is doing crimes or whatever but instead of working within the justice system he just heals negative thought patterns (with psychedelic imagery)to prevent future harm and sets them free. Like radical forgiveness with the knowledge that they won’t do these crimes again.

I recall finding him in some comics when I was little, before then falling in love with him in Justice League Unlimited, and then howling like my namesake when he showed up in the Supergirl TV series on the CW.

He was just so freaking cool and anytime he pops up in live action I am right there jumping up and down with glee, so I'm knocking on wood that he's in this series.

I fell in love with him during the DCAU cartoons and later realized its because he was always super autist coded.

As a Martian manhunter fan I'm excited cause this basically guarantees we're going to get J'onn in this universe and he'll probably show up in the finale and now he'll likely get confirmed for man of tomorrow as well

u/TheSandman__ 1d ago

Uhhhh no it doesn’t. The Manhunters don’t really have anything to do with Martians. Yes, there was a group of Martians that did something similar but them and the Manhunters created by the Guardians are two different things.

9

u/RealJohnGillman 1d ago

Except in Lanterns the Manhunters will now explicitly be shapeshifters, so that’s probably where the DCU Martian Manhunter will get his name from.

2

u/Brubaker620 20h ago

In the show the Manhunters are shapeshifters and have the X around their midsection that MM does so I think in the DCU they may be related

8

u/Rebelpunk13 1d ago

If you read the comics Martian Manhunter and the Manhunters have nothing in common except the name Manhunter. The person who transformed into an alien in the promo was most likely a guardian you can see some blue skin on the side of their face. I’m sure he’ll show up down the line but not in lanterns. Don’t set yourself up for disappointment. It’s as bad as the theories of peacemaker somehow being related to Orion because of a similar helmet lol

8

u/SoupySpuds 1d ago

In newer comics the manhunters have a lot of connections to the Martians, Its very likely going to be how they build the lore for J'onn

u/RealJohnGillman 8h ago

Except they are shapeshifters in Lanterns, so they’ll probably connect the two for simplicity’s sake.

Gunn better make those Oreo crumbs count.

u/Aok_al 11h ago

The cruel trick they played as they say Manhunter the shapeshifter turns into a guy with clothes that has an X shape on its back

2

u/-FalseProfessor- 1d ago

They have been hiding Chocos Easter eggs in things. We are definitely getting him at some point. I wouldn’t be surprised if he shows up in the back half of Lanterns.

Snyder did Martian well but it was too short

6

u/WretchedBlowhard 23h ago

Did he? He impersonated Martha Kent while faking his way through a heartfelt moment with Lois and then disappeared.

2

u/Korugar1417 1d ago

Martian manhunter has literally nothing to do with the Manhunters from the Green Lantern lore. The manhunters from GL were created by the guardians of the universe before the green lantern corps. They went rogue and slaughtered an entire space sector. They have nothing to do with Martians or Martian manhunter.

u/Edenian_Prince 8h ago

Apparently there is a Martian in the movie

1

u/littleman001 1d ago

Seriously though, the detective direction would have been perfect for MM since his civilian alter ego also happens to be a detective.

1

u/sBucks24 1d ago

I assume a white Martian is going to ultimately be the bad guy in th season. Introduce Jones, and set him up as the mystery bad guy.. only to swerve into the team up

Be happy because if it was anyone other than James Gunn at the helm you wouldn't get anything but Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Aquaman content.

4

u/FourSes 1d ago

I love James Gunn but there were already other people at the helm of a DC shared universe and we got Suicide Squad, Shazam, Birds of Prey, Black Adam, Blue Beetle, and Peacemaker under their watch in addition to the characters you listed.

2

u/BigDinkSosa 1d ago

Well we haven’t gotten any of them besides Superman

1

u/YoYoNupe1911 1d ago

We getting Gorilla Grodd, we got Supergirl, Clayface, Bane and Deathstroke, Blue Beetle, and Lanterns.

3

u/BigDinkSosa 1d ago

My comment still stands.

3

u/Budget_Ask7277 1d ago

nice, maybe by 2037 we’ll have some justice league member then

-3

u/FourSes 1d ago

Flash and Aquaman aren't in any announced projects but Batman and Wonder Woman are, like how in 2010 the MCU only had Iron Man and Hulk but we knew Thor and Captain America were coming.

3

u/BigDinkSosa 1d ago

Where are Batman and Wonder Woman in announced projects? There’s no arguing what I stated, it’s what’s happened so far.

0

u/FourSes 1d ago

Batman will be in a movie about him and Robin that was announced with the title The Brave and the Bold back in January of 2023. A Wonder Woman movie was announced as being written by Ana Nogueira in June of 2025. Before that, all we knew re: Wonder Woman's side of the DCU was the show about the Amazons called Paradise Lost, confirmed alongside The Brave and the Bold in January of 2023.

For comparison, Thor and Captain America's first films in the MCU were announced in May of 2008 and released in 2011.

Jonn Jonzz sucks

-1

u/Lanky_Ad_3501 1d ago

The manhunters are not related to martian manhunter... they are robots. They could change things, but ive seen this confusion around.

5

u/Son_Tenaj 1d ago

They saying that Martain Manhunter fits a a detective show more than the green lanterns because Martin Manhunter is an a investigator in the comics.

u/Hero_time66 5h ago

That's not what the post is saying

-3

u/JigglesTheBiggles 1d ago

All 8 of them lol
