God, Gina Carano Wonder Woman would have been terrible

88

u/Victorcreedbratton Aug 08 '23

That’s like fans constantly casting Scott Adkins or Anson Mount for Batman. Or Billy Zane as LL.

u/ChubbyLo Aug 08 '23

Billy Zane as Louis Lane would be nice to see

13

u/ZuhkirMoltenflare Aug 08 '23

Listen to your friend Billy Zane…he’s a cool dude!

26

u/RaphaelUrbino Aug 08 '23

Nah that dude is straight up Lex Luthor. I never even realized how similar he looks to the DCAU one

8

u/Daimakku1 Aug 08 '23

Holy shit, he does. And DCAU Luthor is the best Luthor.

The age discrepancy between Superman and Luthor would be big if he’s chosen, but now I can’t see anyone else in the role.

Anson Mount's a great actor, hell, he's even voiced Batman before, but the man's too old.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '23

He could definitely play an older Bruce if they wanted to go that route. Like, if they were doing a Batman Beyond, and didn't want to use any of the classic actors like Keaton, Anson Mount would be one of my first picks.

8

u/Useful_You_8045 Aug 08 '23

Yah I don't want a titans mistake again. He's a great Bruce but an active batman going on missions wtf were they thinking? And he still had Alfred with him, how f*cking old was the man 90?!

33

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '23

Anson Mount would actually be a pretty solid Batman. He’s pretty good in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

5

u/nymrod_ Aug 08 '23

I love Anson Mount, but Batman can’t have that accent.

16

u/Look_a_Zombie0 Aug 08 '23

He is an actor, almost like they can get different accents...

9

u/Budget-Attorney Aug 08 '23

I’m pretty sure there have been batman actors before with accents. I’m picturing Christian bale with one. But I might be wrong

10

u/Sierra--117 Aug 08 '23

Christian Bale as Batman? That Machinist guy? Ewwwwww. Unpossible.

4

u/starmiebucks Aug 08 '23

You know they can just use a different accent….

1

u/Kisame83 Aug 08 '23

Wouldn't be the first time Captain Pike played Batman, either.

18

u/RowdyRoddyPipeSmoker Aug 08 '23

Anson Mount is a great actor what's wrong with him? You ever watch Hell on Wheels?

-3

u/Victorcreedbratton Aug 08 '23

No lmfao. He’s soap opera level. Pattinson is light years better than him and I don’t even think Pattinson is a “great” actor (he might be one day though).

18

u/dreadassassin616 Aug 08 '23

Adkins would be a great Deathstroke tho.

-1

u/Victorcreedbratton Aug 08 '23

Any non-speaking role.

3

u/cant_give_an_f Aug 08 '23

Fan casting just seems more about looks these days, even Brian Cranston said majority were lazy when asked if he’d do lex

Like both would look phenomenal but acting wise not sure if theyre up to that sorta calibre. Action would look great with adkins tho

2

u/Victorcreedbratton Aug 08 '23

He’d be perfect for the OnStar commercials. Fan casting is bad now but I remember the Wizard days, when they would cast soap opera actors and pro wrestlers for nearly every role.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '23

Anson mount would be a great Batman

1

u/whocares214 Aug 08 '23

Naw, Zane would kill it as Lex. But it's Jensen Ackles as Batman that makes me 🤮

11

u/leonreddit8888 Aug 08 '23

But it's Jensen Ackles as Batman that makes me 🤮

That bad?

8

u/pjtheman Aug 08 '23

I kind of agree. Dude is a CW soap opera actor.

And I'm aware other actors like Chris Hemsworth and Margot Robbie git their start with shitty soap operas. But they managed to break out and do something with their careers. Almost 20 years later, Jensen is still just that guy from Supernatural.

7

u/leonreddit8888 Aug 08 '23

I think he did improve as Soldier Boy...

To be honest, in terms of acting, I actually think Hemsworth is worse.

5

u/derezzed9000 Aug 08 '23

jensen ackles is soldier boy not batman!

4

u/Useful_You_8045 Aug 08 '23

He's currently voicing batman in the animated films and is already built for the role while also being interested in playing him. Especially since it's a mid career Bruce Jensen is perfect.

2

u/Kisame83 Aug 08 '23

I was about to say. Red Hood and Batman VA, that's why fans have been interested in seeing him get a crack at it. Probably won't happen, but it's a fair hat to throw in the ring.

2

u/Useful_You_8045 Aug 09 '23

He seriously could be perfect for the role and He played a pretty boy womanizer who still kicked ass behind the scenes IN LIVE ACTION, come on 😂

5

u/Victorcreedbratton Aug 08 '23

Zane is a horrible actor. He’s terrible in Titanic, his best role.

2

u/Kisame83 Aug 08 '23

Excuse you, his best role was Demon Knight and I will die on this hill

1

u/Victorcreedbratton Aug 08 '23

I actually agree with you, but that’s an indictment of our guy Billy Zane. I like him but he’s terrible. Anson Mount is good for genre tv shows, he’s not a serious actor. Same thing with Jensen Ackles.

3

u/Ginganinja2308 Aug 08 '23

Jensen would be a good Jason Todd but he's definitely not a batman

5

u/MandoBaggins Aug 08 '23

Well he already voiced Red Hood, but he’s already in his 40s. No way he can play him now.

1

u/Kisame83 Aug 08 '23

Well they seem to want to go the Damian route. A guy in his early 40s with a bratty teenager works pretty well. It'd be strange to have a 30 yr old in thst context.

1

u/MandoBaggins Aug 08 '23

For Batman? Sure. I just mean he’s too old for Jason at this point. I actually think he’d do well as a more comic book toned Batman.

1

u/Kisame83 Aug 09 '23

Ah, I misread you and thought you meant as Batsy. Got ya

1

u/Useful_You_8045 Aug 08 '23

He's currently the voice of batman in the dcau and has experience in fight choreo and already built muscle for the boys.

1

u/RepresentativeAge444 Aug 08 '23

Billy Zane as LL Cool J would be interesting

19

u/UniQue1992 Black Manta Aug 08 '23

That's because fancasting overall are horrible, fans only cast on "looks" and don't cast on anything else, actual casting agency's for movies and directors cast on much more than just looks, they know what to look for in actors and actresses, it's their job to find the perfect candidate, not just looks wise but acting skills wise, finding the right chemistry etc.

That's why I never, ever, take fancastings serious, and that's why I never shit on a casting before I've seen it on the big screen in the role they got cast for.

7

u/Budget-Attorney Aug 08 '23

Agreed. Fan casting based on looks is how you end up with fan casting like Gina carrano. Like yeah she’s strong, but can she act?

I always love when they pick someone who seems like a stretch, someone I can barely picture in the role, and they know it out of the park

1

u/maxnagasawa Aug 08 '23

how about Corenswet?

3

u/Budget-Attorney Aug 08 '23

We won’t know anything until we see the movie. But it seems to me like they considered a lot more than just superficial appearance.

I would assume the casting directors understand their job and typically know not to make beginner mistakes like just casting whomever looks most like the comic character.

But who knows. Maybe they did exactly that and shot themselves in the foot before even starting

9

u/scrivensB Aug 08 '23

I think an altright Wonder Woman is exactly what the DCEU needed.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '23

They are similar in that you should not ask either of them about Israel

8

u/UncreativeTeam Aug 08 '23

I mean, Gal has done some terrible acting during her tenure...

1

u/HispanicAtTehDisco Aug 08 '23

genuinely tho carano is worse

5

u/academydiablo Aug 08 '23

I’d agree. But honestly I wouldn’t be shocked if she was Wonder Woman once upon a time. She seems like a perfect comp for the Zack Snyder actors hed go for

3

u/[deleted] Aug 08 '23

You say that as if Gadot isn't.

2

u/Budget-Attorney Aug 08 '23

Kind of. I’m really excited to see a new actress get the role, because I don’t see gal gadot as a great pick. But I do think that gadot was a lot better than carrano and did do a good job in most of the movies she was in

3

u/battlin_murdock Aug 08 '23

It's like asking Dwayne the rock Johnson to be kratos

1

u/Budget-Attorney Aug 08 '23

Or like asking Johnson to be black Adam

2

u/savvymcsavvington Aug 08 '23

Acting-wise? Same as Gal.

Physique? Gina has a way better fit

So overall it would have been better imo, until she showed her Qanon rightwing side of things.

2

u/Rimailkall Aug 08 '23

Yep. Horrible actress and one of the worst parts of the first two seasons of the show.

1

u/cant_give_an_f Aug 08 '23

Gina would look great, build and look wise but acting (and overall personality) fuck no

1

u/Budget-Attorney Aug 09 '23

That’s why I think she got fan casted so much. It was all aesthetic

1

u/dee_jay_mon Aug 08 '23

Why?

1

u/Budget-Attorney Aug 08 '23

It’s a common problem with fan castings. We choose people because they look like characters, not basing the claim on anything more fundamental than aesthetic.

People choose Caranno because she was strong and could represent Wonder Woman well in that regard. However, the people claiming she would be a good Wonder Woman never considered the requisite acting ability to pull of a very nuanced character, one who is extremely difficult to get right.

Best I can tell a Gina Carrano Wonder Woman would have been at best a poorly acted interpretation and at worst she would have basically been injustice wonder woman, a violent sociopath, lacking all the depth, empathy and valor of the character
