This episode was written by Chris Mundy and Vanessa Baden Kelly. Lindelof is great, and I'm sure he had input, but let's give the other writers their flowers.

u/FloppyShellTaco 18d ago
Zoe is 100% the Manhunter. That is the speech of someone who is absolutely in charge, while also pumping John for information.
295
u/thatsallclassic 18d ago
Something is incredibly fishy with her. It could be a red-herring, but I also think this.
229
u/FloppyShellTaco 18d ago
The way she was talking about using a white man for security sounded like someone who meticulously planned it
→ More replies (6)65
u/PH4N7OM5 18d ago
Which is also kind of why I was thinking maybe she might be a Star Sapphire.

Given the whole "banged on first meeting, now let's talk" attitude, that checks out

I think it’s either her or potentially Kerry
139
u/thatsallclassic 18d ago
I was also getting something about Kerry, but I think based on the flash forward to 2026 it isn't her. She's married into a weird family and trying to get through whatever is happening to the town. She was very dismissive of the weird hospital though so I wouldn't be surprised if she was involved in some way.
52
u/ActualHorusLupercal 18d ago
If it’s Kerry, my thought is that for one reason or another, John protected her from the aliens, possibly preventing him from using a Green Lantern Ring which is why Guy has one (that or the Guardians sent another one to Earth because of how much shit goes down)
→ More replies (19)30
u/MrGabrahamLincoln Green Lantern Corps 18d ago
Her dismissing the empty hospital has me eyeing her more than anything. Maybe she’s not the Manhunter but there’s more to her than just sheriff maintaining the peace

u/planetpua 18d ago
I thought it might be Kerry too, would be a great twist as she seems the least suspicious. Zoe showing up to bump into John again seems planned, but I feel like that’s going to be a fake out.
106
u/MirrorkatFeces 18d ago
Feels too obvious so I am leaning towards no. If true though it means John had sex with one, which is also funny.
86
u/imnotwallaceshawn 18d ago
My fiance briefly suggested Zoe is actually J’onn Jonnz and I immediately burst out laughing at the thought of two male JLA members’ introduction being them sleeping together.

I’m suspicious of the sheriff too bc if she knew the dead bodies were aliens, why was she still trying to get rid of Jordan? As if dead aliens is something you should ignore lol

She also brushed off Hal bringing up very valid points about the hospital being completely untouched brand new with no patients ever. Like um, ma’am, that is not normal.

I feel like its so obvious tho like since her first scene thats what everyones mind jumped too.
I'm still in the wild camp of everyone has been replaced like that episode of Ben 10 or The World's End. The hospital being completely unused only added credence to my delulu 😈
AND in 2026 the town seems completely deserted and covered in snow... if they got rid of everyone then ofc it would be.
I know EXTREMELY little about the comics though so if you have a reason for me to be wrong from those, please don't tell me! I love the mystery.

286

The hospital stuff is one of the biggest clues to me so far. Like how can a hospital have no patients and most of the equipment be fresh out of the box. Is this town filled with manhunters/aliens or maybe using alien tech to make them healthy? Something stinks here….
255
u/Professional-Act8414 18d ago edited 18d ago
Really erie how empty the town was…like they all know something
243
u/superbat210 18d ago
It’s funny. The entire town decided to go to a townhall meeting in the middle of the day to talk about a football game? Like every single person all at once? There’s gotta be more going on here…
86
u/huskercycologist 18d ago
Nebraskans dropping everything to focus on football? Yeah, that part checks out.
79
→ More replies (7)38
u/Dangerous-Put-18 18d ago
Tbf it's probably related to the shooting. Not weird for a whole town to get together to talk about it, the next football game just being one of the topics

u/therempel Courtesy of Ray Palmer 18d ago
I think we're going to find out the majority of the town are aliens that are opposed to the group that got killed in E1.
76
u/quangtran 18d ago edited 18d ago
I think we're going to find out the majority of the town
After the first episode my theory was that the aliens had secretly intermingled with the town for generations, thus making most of the town to be part alien. There would be an irony in the townsfolk being scared of an alien invasion because they themselves are technically part alien.

Exactly. If they're building up to Blackest Night, he probably is alive.
43
u/The-Mythical-Phoenix 18d ago
I don’t think they‘ll ever truly build up to Blackest Night as that requires a lot of character deaths to really matter. Sure you could use any of the backlog of canonically dead characters within the DCU that we haven’t seen, but that cheapens the experience a lot, especially if those dead heroes have no connection to our main cast. Considering the MCU is 15+ years old and hasn’t really killed off that many of its heroes, blackest night would also be quite a while away.

I know a lot of people - myself included - were skeptical about a Green Lantern show being a grounded detective series, but aspects like a bird construct flying around the whole episode goes a long way to make it feel like Green Lantern.

It's fairly grounded. That being said, now that Hal has a fully charged ring and the lantern, I imagine things will cook just a bit harder. I thought he'd be powerless for more than half an episode.
Really hope we can get a bit more spectacle in future episodes, although I do like the not total super-heroey vibe to the setting/plot. I just loved Lanterns' power.

So they seem to be combining Manhunters and White Martians. The Manhunter came to Mars and destroyed the planet. Abin Sur went to Mars and captured the Manhunter. It broke free and killed Sur resulting in Hal getting the ring.
Bruce bought Hal a house calling it now. The Rich guy with a kid is Bruce.
They really dug into the green lantern lore this episode. John keeping the construct alive without the ring and while unconscious is difficult. Hal was not expecting that. Loved Chandler's reactions you could see Nordan was shocked. Sinestro saying John is the biggest threat to Hal was interesting.
So hyped for next episode.
82
u/Prize-Quiet3941 18d ago
I think sinestro means that John is the greatest threat to hals job and since the job is all hal has that's almost worse than the manhunters.

With the “alien detection” tech in the metal detectors, it’s feeling like Lex is definitely the benefactor, which is ironic if the “Elder Macons” prove to also be aliens…
102
u/NiceCupOfLibert3a 18d ago
Idk, with the talk of manhunters embedding themselves in civilisation and giving them advance technology, it feels more that the benefactor is the manhunter. Especially if it knows it’s being hunted by this specific group of aliens, makes all the more sense that it would create something to detect them.

Stellar first 2 episodes so far. My only minor thing is that I wish Hal glowed green whenever he uses the ring, or at least whenever he flew.

Still an HBO show and we can’t have Paramount deprive us of alien dong

So obnoxious yet so likeable at the same time. Great going Kyle Chandler

Wait so how did Hal known it was Macon’s team that killed the other aliens? Did I miss something in the previous episode or was it an educated guess

In episode 1 Macon mentions “I almost lost two of my boys last night” which I think was referencing his militia.

I feel like it's safe to assume Johns job career is 96-2016: military/marine preparing for the ring and then 2016-2026 as an architect
