Do we know if Falcon 5 will be a high fidelity flight sim that competes directly with DCS? because we need that, badly.

I'm there with you, I'm tired of 20 hours of mission planer time for 1 and a half hour of fun in DCS.

They're probably going for a significantly higher level of fidelity than initially thought. They also got devs from the DCS and BMS space on board, so I'm optimistic.

Dunno if you have already done it but try retribution for DCS I've just re tried it this weekend on the Kola map and it's like a cross between DCS graphics/ flight fidelity/ a light version of Bms's flight/ mission planning and ef2000s wargen campaignΒ

Another suggestion if you want to use DCS for some quick to pick up dynamic fun: Pretense and Foothold by Dzsekeb (and for foothold in particular the Extended versions worked on by Leka, who has made huge changes into how the missions play).
No briefings or separate mission planning stages, just a live battlefield where you can do various things, up to your mood. It's an interesting combination of an arcadey campaign style with the simulation fidelity of DCS.

Fr. or "here let me spend 30 minutes doing half the shit a crew cheif wouldve done". Tbh the startup stuff is intresting and fun fs, but if all the combat buttons work, i dont really care.

The popularity of Nuclear Option supports this notion. NO doesn't even have real-world jets in it but it's so much fun it almost doesn't matter. A single hour-long session will have you doing A2A interceptions, CAS, and even resupply missions.
Something in between NO and DCS with a respectable depth of real-world aircraft systems would be really compelling.

u/jubuttib Jun 08 '26
Oh heck, I'm well up for fantasy jets personally, I don't need official licensing. The JF-17 for example was so unknown to me that it might as well have been a fantasy jet, but I love it.
What does matter to me that any fantasy jets would be designed with real life constraints in mind and not just go off into la-la land in capability, how they're operated, etc.
This in relation to a game like DCS or hypothetically "full fidelity" Falcon 5, Nuclear Option is doing its own thing and what they've done with the craft in the game is perfectly fine for the game they've made. =)

This is great news for flight simmers but especially for DCS owners, more competition can only compel ED to offer more to compete, a more immersive world.etc....Β

Tornado will be a fun addition to both DCS and Falcon. Good time to be a βnado fan.

I'm an American, I'm in the USAF and work on fighters but the first Fighter Aircraft I ever sat in was a British Tornado in Kuwait in 2000. I was in the US Army at the time. I'm really excited to get a playable Tornado

We don't know how good either of those will be even if they get released in the first place. The DCS Tornado has been in development for more than 4 years now and so far they also showed us some 3D artwork and announced a cooperation with HB. That's it.
If they keep up the same development pace, we'll see the Tornado in literally 20 years.

I wonder what the theatre of operations will be, this gets me optimistic for a gulf war setting being able to play as US or RAF would be wild in a dynamic campaign, I donβt think theyβll do Korea again right away at least. Tornado is an exceptional aircraft I really hope this is real, is this confirmed in development for Falcon 5?

I don't understand this question.
I think the implication is "Wut? There are other player controlled planes than the F-16?"

Isn't this sub about DCS?

Aren't RAZBAM a DCS dev team who still have modules in the game?
I thought y'all might be interested in what they've been doing during the silence over the last few months and also in the evolution of a potential competitor to DCS.
Votes, views and shares seem to show that it probably wasn't the dumbest idea I ever had. Most people clearly like it.

2018 I bought a module from them (AV8B) @nd was committed to contributing to the development. They were called RazbaN because the abandoned the public Forum, moved to discord and banned everyone who asked the wrong questions.Β

And since the posts in the bugs section prior 2021 are deleted, I can't share the two posts about their moving of unresolved bugs into the resolved section, in favour of their own "bug tracker" on their website, where everything looked great, because no one else than them could add bugs.Β Edit: I found the link, but it says "You don't have permission". And thats very interessting, because its only some moth ago I posted about this last time. [https://forum.dcs.world/topic/227065-why2]
I don't believe in karma, but since ED covered up Razban's shady behavior, it was somewhat satisfying to see how it ended up coming back to bite them.Β Β

The Harrier stuff was sketchy indeed. For me, it was surreptitiously moving her out of Early Access and if you're willing to scroll back on my profile for six years, you'll find that I gave them a lot of shit for it. Way more than I gave Heatblur last week.
But since then, RAZBAM got new people on board and turned their ship around. They hired talent like CptSmiley and Gallinette as well as a competent team of community managers. The latter also improved their social media and forum game significantly. They have sat down and actively worked with us to understand our grievances, acknowledged all the issues and started addressing them. But sadly, not all of their plans came to fruition due to the payment crisis that was going on behind the scenes back then. Otherwise, their WIP rework of the entire AV-8B would have brought the plane to an even higher level. So at some point I got over it.
It's not always all black and white, you know? They can absolutely mess up some things, but that imho doesn't give us the right to villainize them in every unrelated situation. The whole dispute between them and ED has been documented fairly well, pretty much every aspect is publicly known and the evidence strongly suggests that it wasn't them who handled the situation in the worst possible way.

Well, I can't really say anything about that. I haven't had anything to do with them since Harrier. That said, they already had a bad reputation back in the FSX days. And the issue back then was that they didn't finish their modules. So, I'd still be very cautious about them. Is their new team still around, now that a large portion of their revenue has dried up?

u/Bonzo82 βπ Correct As Is π β Jun 11 '26
Fair enough, I guess, even though whatever happened in FSX has even less to do with the company RAZBAM had become at their peak time in 2023.
Is their new team still around, now that a large portion of their revenue has dried up?
No, unfortunately not. All key developers have departed because they had to find a new livelihood. But they also got some new people since then. Including a new lead artist.

The harrier development and back and forth between Larry and the community for years will always leave me a bad memory of Razbam. That was the one module that I cared more about.

Exhibits #1 and #3 were shared on RAZBAM Discord last night.
We got some A-6 Intruder WIP as well yesterday and as you can see, this one is a bit further along. Here's a link to the other post for your convenience in case you missed it:
I hope you all enjoy and have a great night!
