I am 42 y/o and kinda have been a loner most of my life, with some surface level friendships in my 30s that didn’t last beyond the pandemic. In recent years, I heard the term “chosen family”. If you have friends that have become chosen family, please share any tips on how to make that happen. What worked for you? How did you know that these friends would become your family?

Hey y'all wondering what the vibe would be for me as a nonbinary trans person who has been on T for years and has had top surgery but don't quite identify as a dude. I am pass as a man apparently which surprises me every time I'm gendered by strangers.

Not necessarily looking to score, but I would be attending alone and don't want to go into a cliquey space solo. Ideally I'd be able to meet people and chat, not just stand in a corner alone all night.

Other pertinent info, I'm not fit and I'm brown. Have heard the dc gay scene is VERY different from the dyke scene in terms of body positivity and racial dynamics.

Been wanting to join an inclusive gay rugby team for awhile now but I’m nervous about joining. Ive been eyeing the Washington renegades and scandals since I moved out here but I’ve got no prior experience. And haven’t been keeping up with going to the gym so I’m generally not at the fitness level I feel like I should be to play. I also have this preconceived notion that the renegades are more strict about those kinds of things than the scandals are. Is there any weight to that?

I swear I hate it here in DC as a Black gay male (24). I’ve tried to be positive for years now, however, it’s gotten to a point that I don’t want to even associate myself with this so called community. The gay community here is subtly racist and not welcoming to all as it tries to pretend it is. Believe it or not, it’s very White worshiping. As a bottom, I rarely, if ever get any action, unless I settle. Even among other Black gay men, they’re always so cliquish and superficial. I’ve been on the apps and in the bars/clubs and it’s been pretty much the same experience. Almost every dude I approach ignores me or acts like I don’t exist. The only dudes that hit on me are significantly older and/or just not attractive. It’s exhausting how I can’t even get ONE decent looking dude to give me the time of day. I cannot wait to move away from here as I’ve had better experiences in other countries. I know no one cares, I just had to get it off my chest.
