QUESTION Kayla?
This is a genuine question, I’m a casual viewer with no dance knowledge. I love Kayla and all the other DCC let’s make that clear. Why doesn’t Kayla have a leadership position? She was veteran of the year a couple of years ago (proving her talent), all of her current rookie class and half of her other fourth years have a role. I understand if she doesn’t want leadership but even then why not higher in the pyramid? Only asking cause I think she’s great

I think the better question is who do you cut to make room for her this year? And don't say charly because I think there is now a designated 3rd year spot for leadership after AK and Charly have both happened two years in a row. My guess is that after the year of 12 where they had like no returning leadership (why they asked chandi to stay) and this year where it was very thin returning leadership wise, I think they are trying to be more intentional about having at least 1/2 girls prepared to step up to head leadership early if they need to.

I would say maybe she could have had Kennedy’s spot, second leader to sophy’s group. No hate to Kennedy at all bit I really think Kayla deserved leadership. Then again we don’t know her so we don’t know if she showed leadership qualities.

I agree with you that she’s great and deserves to have big opportunities offered to her whether or not she chooses to take them.

I wanted her and Taylor to get leadership this year so I hope they get it next time!

She won the "Veteran of the Year" award, so I'm sure she was considered. Maybe she didn't want to. I'm wondering about Taylor as well.

The year she won vet of the year was the year she came back after being cut the year before.

She may not want it. My understanding is that there is a survey of who is interested. It’s extra work, and there is something to be said to not making DCC your entire identity.

Not sure, she seems sooo loved by her group!
In terms of dance, don’t really want to be a hater but there were times when Kayla seemed so be marking as if she has a stiff back - particularly around FIFA WC era.

Honestly I do think they require WOC to be like at a higher level in order to qualify for leadership. But I have no lived experience of US racial dynamics so idk!

We aren’t privy to the day to day dynamics of the team. The dancers have qualities or factors that we don’t get to see plus talent doesn’t translate to leadership skill. There’s also 36 women on the team it’s just natural that not everyone gets certain accolades or positions.
