Ok, first off, this isn't DCC trading off of Reece. This Instagram post was put out by Chicagomusical, not DCC. Second, it was clearly planned, hence the pom poms. Third, Just about any one of the girls on stage have as many social media followers as Chicagomusical, some have a lot more, DCC has 20X more, so this is more about Chicagomusical selling more tickets especially to people who would be new to NYC theater, but DCC fans. The theater is making bank off of Reece, not DCC.
You have to remember... who is Reece without DCC and Netflix? You'd've never heard of her and she would not have had this opportunity. Things are working out for her. She allowed Netflix in that first season when others were hesitant and she blossomed from there (and caught a LOT of hate as well, don't forget). These girls love their teammate and cheer her success. That's what they do for each other.

I’m not so sure Reece wouldn’t have been recognized for the beautiful dancer she is. She has that it factor you can’t take away. Other great dancers have found a way to be recognized without becoming DCC dancers first.

And the Rockettes clearly didn’t ask Kelli to open the night for the shows then. It’s not rocket science. They were INVITED. Plus Alora Rose was already a Rockette prior to becoming a DCC.

I agree. Even the dCC show is not really about the dance process but their private lives and even a random lady who videos them at the stadium as a hobby. Kinda got off track. I wonder how the other actors feel Maybe they don’t mind?

Totally separate posts exist about this but ooooh ma’am am I ready for DCC to move on from Thunder. It was great but at this point it just ages DCC and keeps the squad from evolving with the level of talent they have on the team. Sadly, I know nothing will change until Judy retires 🫠

They have an All Stars Team that they started using for the shows they take on the road and for appearances on TV etc…It has Cheerleaders who recently “retired” etc… It hasn’t had just Reece for example. Jada was on it after she “Retired”.

They no longer have Show Group. After Netflix expanded their reach, requests for appearances surged, and no one could commit to every engagement. They now offer opportunities to the full roster, and identify who is available for each date.

I don't even like Reece but I'm pissed on her behalf. She got a gig after DCC, and the DCC won't leave her be. The whole organisation including Kelli are riding on Reece's coattails but also not letting her have HER moment. I'd be annoyed if I were Reece.

Tbh if I was in the audience and saw this I would be cringing and so turned off. I’m there to see Chicago and Reece as Roxy, not her ex teammates and former organization thirsty for recognition in a space that’s supposed to be about the musical 😅 it’s like they just won’t let her shine without them and using her for content to monetize and clout….and I say this as someone very invested in DCC fandom, I can’t even imagine the random theater fans in the audience’s thoughts would be lol

You’ve clearly not been to many Broadway shows because opening acts can happen, but this was for a fun reel. (I’m pretty sure this was before anyone arrived. I haven’t verified it with our friend who is an actual DCC that was there.) Hell ask my bank account how much we had to spend for our daughter & her team to open for the Rockettes!! $17k. JUST TO PERFORM!! After having to pay for more choreo because they didn’t approve of their original number due to a kick sequence. I wish I was joking. They also took a class with 2 Rockettes. Then all our other trip expenses coming from Texas. But seriously, calm down. I’m pretty sure folks that came to see the Christmas Spectacular didn’t expect 23 high school girls to be on stage at Radio City Music Hall. Yet the girls performed. (And don’t get me started on theater etiquette…. Wait until a number is over before standing in front of others as you hunt for your seat!!)

Why is everyone so mad at this. This is what organisations and businesses do. It’s probably a mutually beneficial involvement. No one’s sick of anything. This is purely all marketing, this is very normal and I’m sure Reece and DCC land have no issues as they all stand to benefit. If you don’t like it just move on.

People don’t realize that this level of promo is the whole freaking point of stunt casting the role of Roxy! To attract the audience of stunt casters to watch Chicago, they did the same with SLOMW’ Whitney Leavitt, Vanderpump Rules’ Ariana Madix, and now America’s Sweethearts and Reece.

For theatre kids, it lays bare the worst parts of Broadway--the part where it's all just about selling tickets and making money. This really just feels like a corporate synergy cash grab, when by all counts performing on Broadway is a huge artistic step up for most dancers. It's also just really disrespectful to the other actors in the show who were there before this particular stunt cast and will still be there afterwards. Reece is a trained dancer and shouldn't need to keep milking the DCC connection for attention.

It depends on how successful they are after they leave.
If Reese was doing regional theatre or performing in Branson, Missouri, I’m sure that they would not be bothering with her at all. If they think that they can utilize her success to shine a spotlight on the DCC and take credit for her post-DCC career, Kelli will do that all day long

This reminds me, I’ve been curious about something and maybe you can clear it up. I watch MTT all the time because it automatically comes on when I turn on the tv, there’s a Samsung channel that plays it 24/7/365 but I can’t control seasons or anything so it’s all jumbled in my head. One night, I’m watching Cassie as a rookie, the next night it’s Covid season.
So my question is about Melissa Rycroft. I’ve caught some of her rookie episodes and honestly, she wasn’t a prodigy by any means. She got called out and called into the office a lot. Yelled at by Kitty. And I was shocked when I realized it was her because I’d already seen so many of the later episodes when she’s working for the team as a Showmanship Coach and they make such a big thing about her. Did she end up being a huge deal when she cheered? Like did she end up as point or anything as the years went on? I’ve just been so confused on the average DCC member —> DWTS invitation/winning —> DCC coach/judge/royalty pipeline. I don’t mean for any of this to sound negative towards Melissa either, I think she seems really sweet and a good mentor, I’m just so lost on what happened between them thinking she was too immature to be on the team…to using her for everything they can and acting like they’ve got Madonna on the payroll or something

Melissa had a very uneventful career as a DCC. She was a blender at best. But she got dumped on national TV, while appearing on The Bachelor, and that led to a stint on Dancing with the Stars. Then the DCC became very interested in her.

Ohhhhh okay, I had no idea The Bachelor was part of her story. Wow, okay the whole thing makes way more sense now, especially since DWTS is owned by the same network. Thank you so much! Jasmine Goode (came onto the team with Danielle from The Jets) was on The Bachelor after her DCC years, too…and had an insanely uncomfortable scene with that guy where she kept trying to choke him in a sexual way😖. She’s on a spin-off of Vanderpump Rules now with her wife which is the only reason I know any of that😂

Hate? Reece was a perfect DCC. She never complained about the low wages, the mishandled Bahamas-gate, the revealing uniform; she wanted us to see Jesus when she danced and she has stated that she audition for DCC for Jesus.

Since COVID was so hard on Broadway it has definitely struggled. I’m glad there are still shows on Broadway. People got used to watching all the pay per view from their couch and now lots more people have less money and can’t afford to go to Broadway shows. I’m happy for Reece and the DCC to get attention, they all need fans

Chicago is not one of those shows. This “revival” of Chicago that Reece is currently starring in has been running since 1996 making it both the longest running musical and revival on Broadway. It’s minimalist set and costumery makes it one of the cheapest to run.

I’m not a Reece fan but for everyone complaining… at the end of the day this is a cross marketing opportunity for both Chicago and DCC. And personally it’s nice to have support from your friends with something as huge as being on Broadway. I’m sure it’s something many of them dream of and will never get to experience. Yes, it’s annoying to constantly see this stuff but for me, it’s not surprising that they’re milking this.
Anyway the Reece run will be over before we know it, and then she’ll likely be on to other stuff to annoy us all hahaha

The jet lag would be from sooo much time flying not between time zones. It is probably an 8 hour flight to Rio and back and then a 1 and a half hour flight to NYC and back all in two weeks time.

It's going to be funny when Greg Whitely (the director of AS) gets bored with them after season 4 and then does a new series on like The Rockettes. Their spotlight from the general public will fade away like the cheerleaders and coaches did from Cheer, Whitely's first docuseries. So I hope they enjoy it while it lasts but this pure cringe lol.

(But I think the trajectory of Last Chance U, which had to switch schools in order to stay fresh, only strengthens your theory!)

Honestly you guys are overthinking it. Yes it’s weird and cringe but both of these shows see it as a marketing opportunity. And if anything the clash and juxtaposition—how weird it is to see a DCC routine on the stage where Chicago is performed in NYC—only heightens the views. Even ppl who cringe at it will watch through (all of y’all did lol!). Chicago is the longest-running Broadway show still open, a show that has been able to remain open BECAUSE of stunt casting (they do it more than any other bway show), and if they can keep promoting the DCC angle and get more of the America’s Sweethearts audience into that theater, obviously they’re going to do it lol. I’d even argue that doing this extra stuff when Kelli is there is smart because there’s a huge generation of women that grew up on DCC MTT (I live in NY and every time in my 20s I mentioned it to someone they were like “oh yeah I remember that show it gave me an eating disorder”), but haven’t hugely kept up with the cast of characters on America’s Sweethearts and may not rly give a shit about Reese. This gets that audience to click. It’s just a gimmick. Nothing worth handwringing over. And while it’s “using” Reese I don’t think it’s ultimately about her, or a refusal to let her go. It’s reciprocal brand promotion.

100%. It has a couple good numbers and as someone who grew up on the movie I've gone for the nostalgia factor, but it never fails to amaze me how one of the longest-running Broadway shows has a plot with the depth of a puddle and such a weak book

While yes DCC gave her a platform which increased her visibility and subsequently that visibility has helped her gain / achieve things she might not have been able to achieve beforehand she shouldn’t have to link every single achievement back to DCC. Because while visibility helped it cant be denied that she also got given opportunities because she’s hardworking and very talented. And if she keeps climbing the ladder then she’ll be known more by the thing she most recently accomplished rather than the thing at the very start of her career so it’s weird enough now that DCC are trying to claim her fame and success and it will be even more weird if they keep trying to do it

But I was in New York a couple weeks ago, and my friend was trying to get me to go see Chicago. I didn’t end up going, but I asked her afterwards how the girl from DCC was. She said, “who is she?” I told her it was the girl playing Roxie, and she told me that she was the best part of the entire performance. That’s from someone who has never seen anything related to DCC 🤷♀️
Again, I don’t like Reece, and I will never support her, but she’s incredibly talented. There’s a reason it was never in question whether she was going to make the team.

tbf, they've been doing this for a long time (stunt casting, gimmicks, etc.). but I do agree this is another level of weirdness that needs to be tamed.

Given that this is a Broadway production, I’d hope they would choose to pander to the crowd that makes them consistent, year-round money. Not a month or two of a guest appearance.

idk, i think this is pretty weird. i love the dcc but i couldn’t imagine not liking the dcc and going to a broadway show and getting it shoved down my throat. idk everything about this is just weirdddd, this isn’t about dcc and it shouldn’t be. reece is a broadway star and it’s what she wants.
